About the not allowing the porn star in Indonesia, better in the long run for J-girls going to Bali, I'd think. But then again, J-girls go to Bali looking for men, just ask anyone. About watching porn in general, its like whiskey, one drink might not hurt you, but drink too much and your likely to become an alcoholic/pornoholic. I had it out with a friend of mine the other day, who downloads 6 new J-porno movies EACH DAY! It ended our friendship when I called him out on it, and so be it. I believe NOT watching such xxx, and reading a book, listening to jazz, do some creative writing to JT, whatever. Too much concentration on marginal stuff, makes you marginal, that's how I see it. And I'm definitely not a right-winger. Believe me, I've watched a porn or two, and then it starts to strike you, this is no different than child pornography. Talking about J-porn. The western-produced variety is quite different, no?

As the James Taylor song lyrics go "You can run but you cannot hide, this is widely known". Let freedom ring, let child custody disputes be addressed long and hard, and hopefully come up with something better. That's what we're living for isn't it? To make things better for the next generation and then the next?

I have to agreea bit with Cicada's concern with the bullying of J-wives, in foreign countries knowing they can't speak up and out against injustices they endure, ....it really is a fine line, this international marriage thing. For those who are lucky, move to nice places after the marriage, keep their jobs, have nice families its a blessing. If one of these 3 conditions becomes absent......forget about it.

Whoever is not living in Japan, cannot understand this type of random action. But if you live here, and your a foreigner (heh heh, that's one thing we have in common right?), you can easily understand, nay, almost come weiry that this type of action is very close to happening all around us at any moment. Well maybe a slight exaggeration, but if you think the mood and manners of this country is like it was in the days of yore, your smoking things that are legal in Denmark.

I was once on a TV show that he was "hosting". He's a typical "ware ware wa" better than anything non ware ware type of character. Just look at his expression in the photo. It rarely changes. That this type of guy represents the "best" of Japanese talent is really an embarassment. And for how many years running? 20 or so? If someone could ever offer true variety in this media mesmerized country?

I don't get it. Why was 1 girl filming 10 streaking males? Was that part of the thrill...and who's idea? Obvioiusly the streaking males, right?

I wonder if being Ibaraki has anything to do with it. That is, country behavior different than city behavior? Still 8-11 year olds not coming home for dinner is just unacceptable. As a child I would have been shaking with anxiety at not returning home without getting permission. I get the feeling "permission" from parents might not be the norm in this country, or shall we say, from people in parts of this country? Its one part of the unpredictable nature of these people. They seem to suddenly do things (like say some derogatory comment about being a gaijin to you right in your face) or not do things (like apologize for dropping their a strap of their bag against your glasses in the train) that belies a true concept of "wa". What do you think? Was that what happened in this case. They felt because there was four of them together that they didn't need anyone else's permission? Somethings gotta be behind the act. If they were 13-15 that's another matter, but 8-11?

I recommend Yamagata and Akita Prefectures, two of my favorites for the hosting of the 2020 Olympics!

I disagree with dophingirl and others who say smoking pot doesn't make you lazy. It has been proven that smoking it does create a condition known as hypoglycemia, where the blood sugar level skyrockets when high, and plummets when you come down. Ever heard of the munchies? There's the reason. The blood sugar has plummeted and people need to gorge themselves, often with very sweet sugared (yin) foods to get the blood sugar up past the abnormally low level. The low level contributes to a feeling of lethargy and that makes you lazy. And just like in smoking cigarettes, there isn't a person who smokes just 1 cigarette a day, its more like an article I read where the smoker said, "After I quite smoking MJ for 2 years and other drug used completely, I still had an urge to return to MJ. One day I gave into the urge thinking I'd control it by smoking 1-2 a month. After 3 months I was smoking 3-4 times a week, and in 6 months, I was smoking everyday before noon." That's how smoking ANYTHING works. It just eats at you, calling out til the lighter is lit.

Smart idea putting up the curtains and all. I'm sure it was this very action that attracted the police in the first place. Give a 17 year old J-boy a break.

Some type of missionary came to my 1st floor apt. door (old style) which I leave slightly ajar in the hot days of summer, since I can't stand the "air-conditioning" method in such a couped up place. It improves air circulation. My clunker of a door bell clanged loudly as I was mopping the kitchen floor located a step and a half away, and two people in suits who obviously had never worked a lick were there smiling talking in Elmer Fudd Ingwish. I heard myself scream "Get out of here!" and they meekly retreated and drove away. Maybe not a Mormon affiliation but don't come to strangers doors expecting for an easy dunk on weekends (make that especially on weekends), living itself takes all of one's energy in these parts. And I know how to pray hard. Its called another four letter word, W-O-R-K, Respect, help others (as far as possible). Amen

The Mormon church in Sapporo smacks as just another branch of Soka Gakai, people pushing a religion that has not need to come to these islands, but somehow makes its way AT A TREMENDOUS OUTLAY OF MONEY!

I think it has a lot to do with at least three factors. 1) The laws. Do any exist against groping; like traffic tickets, escalating fines/ 100,000 for a train feel, 1 million per person for anything worse plus 3 years no suspension of sentence possible, especially by newspaper delivery boys or athletic club members) 2) The culture;patience, gaman, etiquette, walking two paces behind the dude. Some of it was just required to live on these islands. Anyone who's been here long enough must recognize it as an attempt to live here with all the typhoons, narrow areas (40% of the population lives in Kanto; 80% of Japan is mountainous unliveable area; Japn is as big as which state with 1/3 its population). Everyone has bought into the system. Yes the men are friggin crazy groppers, (and smokers), but the women don't face "reality" either. Walking around dressed up like the xxxx slaves they say they don't want to be, puttting make-up on in the trains (hello); pulling their eye-lashes for goodness sakes! Does this happen in other planets besides Mars? 3) The economy (related to one and two)...they get stuck with the short end of the stick and they don't speak up about it. Shikata ga nai. Anyways, groping and smoking are two evils that will not be rooted out in a day. And the following thought just occured to me.."WE, the foreign gaijin community of this place will probably/maybe play a very important and determining part in all this. Or am I being delusional? At least we'll bring it up for discussion. Finally, I think if you ask them about it, they'd respond similar to the way that they say, "WE have no predjudices in Japan." "We have no groping in Japan." "Nobody smokes."

Moderator: Stay on topic please. Smoking is not relevant to this discussion.

Come ON now, Whitehawk. Talking about thrashing and bashing the dead! Hello? No matter how "funny" or "hard-to-believe" storyline you read into this tragedy, may I repeat, the people DIED. Did you also laugh at the victims who stuck in a Shindler's elevator, crushed in a JRWEST railway accident, or other such "preventable" accidents? Please don't use this terrible deathly misfortune as a forum for bashing USA cops!

“The favorite doesn’t always win.” That's good news for you and me, and Tiger Woods competition 67% of the time that he also doesn't win. I'm a Chicago native and of course rooting for my home town, but I have a gut reaction Rio will take the marbles this time, since S.America has never had an Olympics. t-minus 12 hours?
