I wonder if this is all an attempt to humiliate and dog her to her end, so that the only step remains is for a "bare-all" photo session to accompany the total intrusion into every other aspect of her life. Not that it wouldn't be a huge success like Rie Miyazawa's New Mexico book of years ago.

No, there's no tick box in immigration. Next time an NHK person comes around for fees, just say, "I haven't watched TV since BEFORE the Noriko Sakai problem, and I don't watch it now!" Then say "BYE-BYE". And close the door. With the 5,000 yen or so, you can go out an buy a months worth of delicious rice, or howsoever you are inclined.

I'm surprised no comments yet. Maybe its just too gruesome? A friend of mine on the TMPD has told me more than once, that the stench from a deceased body escalates dramatically and becomes unbearable with time. Just stuffing a body in a wall and not imagining any repurcussions is plain dumb. But so is the act of taking another persons life for whatever reason so.....

Joe the plumber, "widen those narrow alleys and create walkways where people can ..." How the xxx do you propose doing that? Chopping down someone's house that is in the way? O.K. I'll admit the post office offers good time service. I guess my frustration was confused with the banks which is covered adequately by diggerdog.

Just imagine if Oshio had been the one who died and the girl walked away. By the way, nothing has been said about what they were doing while on the drugs, as if they weren't making full-blown woopy. Even then, the guy doesn't call the emergency ambulence?

Unless they change the schools, the post office working system (some fat guy behind the counter counting what I don't know), the whole "Japanese are better or poorer or picked on syndroms forever and ever, and never reflect that they might have been the aggressor in WWII. Unless these real fundamental changes occur, it doesn't seem like Japan will get "better". But will it survive? Most definitely. But what kind of life do they want? That's the question. Just today, I saw a charming 3-year old (aren't they all?) with a t-shirt that said, "Smile, and ease our tension." Nice choice by the Mom, and the kid didn't have a wrinkle to show for it. Some tension. Just wait kid. I hope Japan DOES get better by the time you reach your adulthood. I really do!

Give him to Crocodile Dundee, or just give him to the Crocodiles. This type of crime is too wicked to print. I think we should change the name of this to Crimes in Japan Today and around the world.

If a 67 guy stabs the 82 year old, that's more believable, not acceptable of course. But the other way around, makes even less sense. Not that this is anything but an act of insanity, but still....They must have been wagering money and not just playing for fun.

Hey lostrune2, can you add and subtract? We're talking about a 38-year old out of work, hunting the internet for some easy pickings dude, striking it up with a 16 year old chickadee, barely into her puberty, alright? 38-16=22, the guy is old enough to be her father, and she is still of an age of..... well if not, then maybe..... That's enough to make people focused, you don't agree? If the girl is 36 and the guy 58, that's a different story. So its not just the difference in ages, but the powerful meaning of dating a minor. Wouldn't you say? Or does that have nothing to do with it?

yabits and sf2k make very profound points that I totally agree with. "I wonder if this is kind of a backlash or release against that stress over details, or whether on some level it represents a lack of respect towards language that is foreign in general." Yes yes and yes. I think it all stems from the neglect to come clean about the meaning of "total surrender" in WWII. It means "we admit we are defeated". But nowadays, everytime I go out drinking with people from Drs., lawyers, to business men, and students, they to a man (women don't weigh in on the subject) say "Japan and Thailand are two of the only countries on earth that have never been conquered." Hello?
It's not that Japanese screw up English, but they insist that they are allowed to provide new meanings to words. How is anyone supposed to understand? And they work it another way too. Often times I've had conversations in Japanese, and inevitably, the person I'm talking with (with mind you not at), says "how would you say that in English?" Then I give my best rendition having studied both languages for decades, and more often than you imagine they will doubt what you just said is correct. "No, the Japanese has a slightly different nuance than what you just said." I'll admit SOMeTIMES that might be true, but not always. Finally, they will talk in Japanese to their peers, saying things like "Kare wa kuki yomenai" (he can't understand what's happening here unless we spell it out to him; i.e. he lacks sophistication), but its often not the case. I understand how to read the air, but I choose NOT to follow carte blank ON PURPOSE to demonstrate AT TIMES (not always mind you) that I have a will of my own, understanding that it might cause waves. So language is a very, very, deep and cultural relationship as sf2k points out. Thank you.

I agree with smithinjapan on this one. Yet might I add, this is japan. i know, the ol this is Japan excuse/logic.By that I mean, this is Japan 2009. That a 16 year old could/would meet a 38 year old on the internet and then start an affair really wreaks something wrong with this society. (ie no chances to meet people your own age, or very few non-pressure ones). If it were an 18 year old and a 36 year old, that would be bad enough, but subtract 2 to the younger and add 2 to the older, and we're talking very close to a criminal offense. In any event, unless your Jerry Lee Lewis and got tons of cash, an act and a talent, I don't get how this guy got to first base, or am I missing something? I don't by the harassement by father theory by the way.

When in Lome do as the Lomans do. Eego is not English. Its Eego. If you listen to most students talk about it on the train, eego this and eego that, they're only referring to something like a dead guinea pig that you have to dissect to pass first year biology. The sooner its over and done with the better. BYE BYE.....recently I've been chiming in with my own BYE BYE when the groups of high school girls parrot it to each other on departure. When did this custom come about? Before Hello Kitty? BAIYYYYe BAIYYYE

The other day I saw the following on a tee-shirt of a young 20-something on the JR train. "I want to be as good a lover as Sarah. I hope all the people leave this play and go home and fxxx." It was full of stars and colors. I asked a young male student of mine what he thought about it. He answered, she probably just read the word "love" and liked the starry design. Still, who would make such copy? Certainly not native speakers, or am I wrong?
