"I hate america period". What kind of person is this? Substitute any countries name, aussie included and what do you get, mate? Bad blood circulation and a shortened life. Wish you all the best. About the trains and people not sitting next to you, I wonder which trains and which part of the country of Japan people are living in when they say Japanese sit right down next to you like your one of the tribe. Yes, sometimes, they will, but sometimes they won't, and not because they don't want to sit, but because for the only reason that a non-Japanese is sitting next to the open space. Hello? Call a spade a spade.

jesssicaaa already is in the place he/she suggests. Chicago is my home town, don't tread on me. If you had a bad experience, that doesn't condemn the city for its natives. That being said, "Tokyo to win it?" Because the tap water is drinkable? Even to this day and beyond, anyone over 60 won't sit next to a foreigner, and those under 60 sit right or pretend not to notice you. Until people can be treated as equals (or some pretense thereof), what is the meaning of having Olympics? But I don't condemn the place, because its my adapted city of more than a decade. I suck it up and practice patience and love thy neighbor as much as I can. In a word, the trains and public transportation are good, but.....crowded with foreigners like us? We could put up with it for the 2 weeks I guess, but

We are in the land of Oz. The paradoxes of this place is that we are safe without being so and protected with no protection. In a very real sense, the people govern themselves (or don't) and the J-cops are like ushers at an event, but not pro-active or pro-anaylitic as we all know. The majority, say 90% or so, (decreasing these days?) are "orderly" and the other 10% just flout it with no fear of retribution. Just yesterday, as one train was delayed by the annual "Jinshin jiko" (suicide), the people were piling up so fast on the the subway platform (the alternative to the accident prone railway above ground) that even the stairways leading to the platform were full and had to stop progress. I was about 20th in line, and some guy was pushing me from behind. As there was no where to go, I shrugged my shoulder to get him off my back, and then he started barking angrily at me "why did you give me your shoulder?" (in Japanese). I turned around to see this obviously job-less goon, and since there was absolutely no breathing room, just stared and finally said "Tanomu yo" (be careful). Lo and behold, the guy, then snaked himself past me, and through the hordes of people to squeeze into the next train ahead of us all using the space above the doors to wedge himself in as is the technique. The doors closed, and he was on his hurried way. To where? That's what always gets me. People are in such a hurry, but we all know they have no where to go. Thats what you mena right elbuidamexican?

Stomach ulcer takes a long time to develop. So we might imagine that Ichiro has let the steam build up inside him for some time. Its surprising all the same, since he demonstrated great accomplishments for so long. I guess Yonkers doesn't really help one's health that much.

Here we go on and on. For the first few days (its still relatively recent) I thought about the glory of Japan and Korea facing off in the finals, with USA and Cuba and Venezuala going home to nurse themselves. Then I read a comment by USA pitcher and he said "They outplayed us. We had a good enough line up to win. they just outplayed us." Sports is like that. O.K. for the short term, Japan did win, Korea was 2nd. Expand the formate over a season. Maybe they'll still win, but maybe not as much? In the NBA where games are night after night, even the top team at the beginning like the boston celtics are now being overtaken by 2-3 other teams near the end of the season. I'm not in any way denying that J and K teams have reached equal footing with the best in the world, but don't get TOO gloated over a win. Its only a win in one series. In Golf, even Tiger Woods doesn't win every time. And then today I was thinking, wait a minute. If Japan is nailing us to the wall about not fielding a better team, why is it that in Japan's other "national sport" they haven't had a grand champion Yokozuna since Takanohana....a decade ago? "Oh, we don't care about sumo anymore." Well, don't have it both ways. And in WBC III, maybe we'll see a younger USA team that studies the intricacies of Japanese pitching tendencies (fork balls, sinkers, sliders, balls diving just before they reach the plate) etc., and learn to be more patient for a pitch that comes into the strike zone. And maybe we'll have a pitching staff that will take it to heart to shut out the other side. And then in a best of series, what'll happen. Games on that's for sure.

My favorite comment in all the above is " I would think it would a source of national pride that the game has achieved the popularity it has." This truly must be the real meaning of the WBC. Any sport, not just baseball that is decided in one game, or double elimination as in College Baseball Series Champions, or even 3-5 are all "crap shoots". Whichever team is up for that day will win. It doesn't mean they will win forever, or even win 70% of the time. But at the same time, Japan and Korea showed that if they want to win, they indeed have the combined, determination/talent/organization/ to do so. Even the top player Jimmy Rollins (an MVP award winner) said, "those pitchers throw the kitchen sink at you". He means, they've got all kinds of variations on their pitches, that you can't get into your rhythm to hit as you would normally. In other words, I think it'll take time for each countries players to adjust to the different styles. Japanese and Korean pitchers (especially the former) throw the most darting drop balls we've ever seen. And with great control. In this vein, I asked a Japanese athlete who plays American Football in the X-league here in Japan his opinion. He said, if the sport is football, even the 2nd and 3rd string american players could beat the rest of the world. But baseball depends very much on the pitcher, and contact hitting, two things which Japan and Korea have drilled and drilled for years and years almost 365 days a year. Read a book on Ichiro's development by Robert Whiting The Ichiro Factor. You'll soon realize that these players are on a mission much like the Korean women golfers are on the LPGA. They live, breath and are ready to die for their goal. With such determination and practice, combined with improved nutrtition and modern day sports training science, they have indeed bridged the gap with the power of westerners so far, in the game of baseball. We should admire the skill of it. But on the other hand, if its so one-dimensional to exclude every other thing in their lives, well then, that may be the one thing American players are not willing to sacrifice.

Realistically? That's an interesting word. Is anything done "realistically" here? I mean, they let Miura go free, "realistically" was he an innocent man? They can't catch 3 of the Aum fugitives, even after 15 years. Do you think "realistically" they are going to get them now? And "realistically" speaking, is it true that 9 policemen went to the door of Ichihashi? 9? Why, "realistically speaking" were 9 required to go to the door? Wouldn't it have been more "realistic" to have 2 situated AND READY at the entrance to the apt., 2 situated AND READY at the escape stairways, 2 situated AND READY at the elevator, and one situated AND READY with a cell phone, walkie, talky, video camera, or dare I say, "some heat" to stop someone trying to flee the scene? What the xxx are the policemen in this country doing "realistically" anyways?

tkoind2 has some good points. But at the same time, I wonder when was the last time he had to "visit" THE Immigration office in Shinagawa. I have to go every 3 years, and went just last month. I was surprised to see the how the ratio of Chinese (my guess) has skyrocketed in the past 3 years, and also that compared to 3 years ago, the total numbers of foreigners has decreased. I had number 125, but it didn't stop the 128 card holding person from butting ahead of me at the last minute (I had waited an hour and a half) to receive the granting of my application. When I protested to the clerk behind the desk. He said in Japanese "I am taking people in the order that they are lined up". I didn't fight it. Waited a few more minutes then got my visa. Another funny incident was when I had my fingerprints takent there to make reentry more expedient (I'm starting to have my doubts as to its effectiveness). Since I had licked one of the revenue stamps instead of putting it over the dry sponge in front of me, inadvertantly some of the sticky-stamp remained on my left index finger and as a result the fingerprint machine couldn't read it. I had to repeat the process 3-times, then the lady said "There's something wrong with your finger." I licked the remaining stick off, but it still couldn't register well. So then she asked me to shift to the longer finger in the middle. I said, Oh this one? giving her the bird. As I left the madhouse, there was members of the red army with loud speaker protesting the Phillipine girl with illegally entered parents problem (deadline coming soon). Having recieved my 3-year lease on life, I felt liberated to yell out "Gaikokujin no sabetsu ni wa YAMEROOOO") People around were mildly surprised, but I soon got into a taxi and was on my way back to Disneyland.

jonnyboy, why make these poisons but to create a dangerous and probably fatal situation for someone else? Are you saying that the right of exercising your personal freedom inside your own house is the most important right of your human life? Even if you live with other relatives or members of your own created family? How about their rights to enjoy the security of safety from such above named poisons? Sounds like its time to clean your bong.

Looks like it'll soon be time to change the name of the October MLB "World Series" in the USA to the MLB's Annual North America Championship Series. And expect every team to have a Korean on their roster by the time this eventually happens. Its a really impressive and well-deserved performance by the K-team. One that's been worked on for years and years, in the face of simultaneously battling all the other troubles their country and the world faces. I'm sure there's a story to be written here that equals that of Japan baseball history and development.

All you "wannabees" be prepared for reality. There's no guarantee that you'll be selected to a spot in the race even if you want it. I heard its something like 10-1 odds against it. And be sure to apply ASAP, if you wait too long, the odds increase. Same as the Ome Marathon, Shogatsu, Golden Week, and Summer vacation airplane reservations etc.

No new comments. Is this the end of the interest? It doesn't sound good for the Hawkers. Last night I was talking about this to a group of 3 natives and they seemed uniformed about the issue. "But they didn't yet know he was guilty when (NINE) of the J-stones showed up at the door." Oh, really? I replied. But don't you think they could have divided up the group for 2 at the entrance, two at the elevator, 1 at the escape hatch-route, one waiting in squad car (if one was present, and if not, they should have been ready to chase on foot" and still have three left to knock on the door.

Let's travel to Seoul to watch the finals if it becomes Japan vs S. Korea. Let's go anyways, since I have a feeling it'll be V vs U.S. If so, we can see the finals from a very disinterested perhaps quite spotty coverage of the game.

Don't pin the destination only on Saitama. What's shocking is how such an odd looking, tall (for Japanese standards), barefoot person obviously looking for refuge could not have been seen by literally 100's of people on his way out to where he is now. I think its not only the J-cops, but the J-people who are in cohoots with the no-ask, no-tell policy of living. It seems that only convenient store employees go after the bad guys, and get knifed in return. Would that a guy like this could be caught immediately through being caught. With so much time passed its not looking good. But remember, Miura san was freed for over 15 years before meeting his doom, so never give up Hawker family members.

Has this person never been informed of the stakes involved? I mean, he didn't just try bringing in 1or 2 pouches, which probably would have passed mustard. But he had to go for the jugular. He must have looked sick as a dog, and that's putting it mildly, and not meant in any way to be derisive to the heavenly pets that bless our lives.
