Japan’s visual history is one of unparalleled beauty and design

Yes, up until the 17th Centaury. Since then it is square and ugly and utilitarian. There is no beauty in modern Japan, just as there is no soul. Visit Europe and adjust your reference.

They should be charged with assault and sacked immediately. The parents should sue the principle and teacher personally. Make them suffer.

And his name is Madoman? He is a madman.............

    FAIL

I think much of this barbaric behaviour is inspired by violence on >television.

Duh, when was the last time you saw someone doused with gasoline and set on fire, on TV? FAIL

People get strange ideas and then, really, do they expect to get away >with it?

Do you really think he cared about getting away with it?

What a barbaric country. On the other hand, this is human nature, the >desire to harm others and not care about consequences.

Really? So the 99% of people who live in peace are to be judged by the 1% who want to kill or wage war............ FAIL

Putting his personal prestige on the line, President Barack Obama dashes to Copenhagen

Guess the teleprompter said go to Copenhagen.......... pity he does not have enough character to admit, that the whole summit is based on fake data.......but I guess he is not as dumb as Blair, who admitted that the science was faked, but that they should do the summit anyway.

Where were the teachers? Baseball bats on hand, that should be 7 dead dogs and one or two teachers with and adrenalin rushes. With pack dogs you take out the leader and the rest will run.

The owner off the dogs should be jailed. The dogs should be put down.

hey even if he does fail, he will still be a god when put along side >BUSH !!! so who cares

You should care! Your country is now in more debt that a generation can pay off. And Obama want to add to the debt! The US dollar is loosing its lustre and your buying power is being depleted. But don't worry about it, I am you can find some other fool country to buy your debt.

Its bad enough reading the scare mongering posts of the ill-informed >right wingers, but now having to read a RANDOM,pointless, moan of a so >called journalist, clearly shows the idea is to promote rabble rousing >arguments

Funny how the "enlightened" liberals cannot stand an opposing opinion. Since when is discussion "scaremongering?" Rabble? You do have a high opinion of yourself don't you.

Sarah Palin is to serious politics what Mickey Mouse is to period dramas.

Yes. We need idiots that spend trillion on stimulus packages that don't work. We need politicians to introduce health bills that will cost further trillions, when the cupboard is bare. Honestly, nothing Palin could do could be any worse than the "geniuses" in power now.

sorry have to agree with those who dont like Palin, she is just not >anywhere near smart enough to get into politics at any level let alone >thinking she actually is capable of going straight to the top.

She shud stick to organizing car pools with other hockey moms & similar, >nothing at all wrong with that nice everyday living stuff, but to take >the leap to presidential level just insnt using yr noodle correctly

May I suggest you read the book. You might learn how to spell.........

I have no doubt that a great number of people who are not at all even >remotely as close to being dumb as Palin will still be curious what she >wrote. This is not to say they want to know her ideas, just see what all >the fuss is about. So not ALL the people who buy it will be in the single >digit IQs, just the people who believe what she says.

Rather the fool that knows he's a fool than the fool that thinks he's wise.

At least, for the time being there is freedom of expression in the US. Obama would have it the other way. Australian journalism is pretty good IMHO.

hoserfella at 11:27 AM JST - 6th October Right on, Timberlandic. You drive accordingly to the conditions. You >dont fly past a mess of people and cars at 50km/hr+ in a 3 ton truck >just because thats the posted speed. Common sense would have saved the >kid.

You have no idea of the speed the truck was travelling at. What distance is required to stop such a truck from 40km/hr or 30Km/hr. More than most would expect.

It is sad that the boy died, sad for his family and friends and sad for the truck driver. His livelihood may now be in question & he will have to live with what has happened . But without more information asserting blame to one party or the other is just irrelevant. I have seen as many speeding trucks as I have stupid actions by pedestrians. They are both unfortunately too common in Japan.

Classes in Japanese schools are typically of 40 or so student. When was the last time anyone here tried to manage 40 student? Sure the teachers are responsible for what happens when they are on duty, but there has to be some consideration for the stupidly huge class sizes they are forced to teach.

Re class size. I am referring to my knowledge of class sizes at two schools, one in Akatsutsumi and the other in Machida.

Like it or not, the VAST MAJORITY of Japan IS paved, your tiny little >country town with apparent dirt roads requiring 4WD is a small >exception. Also, the VAST MAJORITY of these types of 4x4 SUV's ARE in >deed street queens that will never see the dirt. You are kidding >yourself if you think otherwise. Look at the sales and where they are >sold. Also, this particular model is not sold in the US, that was my >point.

Rubbish. People don't typically buy 4WD's here unless they are needed. Most of Japan is mountainous, about 20% is urban sprawl. I have a Prado and it is clean as new. But I haul a Supermoto bike to the track every weekend on it, in summer. Go off-road camping about 10 time a year. Haul a Canadian canoe on it and spend time on the beautiful lakes out near Fuji and up in Fukishima. In winter I drive to the snow fields with the family. In the fall I go photo touring off-road to get to places you never would. I know other people with 4WD’s and all are active with their vehicles.

This one man has spend more money in six months of his presidency than >all the sum total of all the presidents that came before him. One guy >out-spent all of them together... in six months. >

This is facinating, can I have a link to the source of this info please.

9 Trillion is the current estimate. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090825/plnm/usobama_budget

But I am sure he will manage to spend more before he is finished. China owns almost 25% of US debt, but they are souring on buying more. If public health cover is adopted add that to the above figure........
