    There's also been dairy closures, a decline in milk consumption/production, and skyrocketing grain price rises to blame. There will be more food supply problems, Japan needs to get it's self-sufficiency rate up.

    How about some basic common sense? Ban the selling of electrically heated toilet seats, legislate for proper insulation (Japanese - it's not just for cold countries) and double glazing. Japan imports most of it's fuel - surely we can do something with all the solar engergy?

    let's keep in mind that Japan never really adopted central heating/cooling in homes and therefore uses half the energy per capita as the US or Canada. Perhaps these things you people think are lacking are simply not needed.

    Anthropogenic greenhouse gases from water vapor? I think there are greater concerns. For example, where and how the hydrogen is produced. Hyrdogen itself is only an energy carrier, so if the cars are plugged into a grid that is coal fired, what's the point?
