Thank you LFRAgain for an excellent posting. A number of us had it out with this character a few years ago and served him with much the same evidence as you and I and others have here. All we did not the end is score points and make ourselves feel proud and righteous. Unfortunately, no amount of evidence and logic will change the mind of a person who adamantly does not want to have his or her mind changed. When a person like that does go through a mind change it rarely has anything to do with the likes of us. Usually it is an extraordinary experience, like meeting a real victim of the Holocaust.
For whatever reason, Sabiwabi hates the Jews. The Bishop also hates the Jews. The next question to ask is why these sorts of people hate the Jews. There is a long and gory anti-Semitic tradition within Christianity. So it might be that there is no personal reason or empirical reason to hated the Jews, the poison having passed down from one generation to the next to the point its "truth" is a given, like the unquestioned existence of God.
But the Bishop says the Holocaust is a myth designed by the Jews (and, I guess, the Masons) to force the establishment of Israel. Okay, a lot of Jew-hating has come out of the horror that Israel has delved out to the Palestinians. In that way it is like the hatred of Arabs and Muslims that we see today, particularly after 9/11. To that emotional argument there is a clear rational answer that does not require details discussion of chimneys and doorframes: You cannot not blame the sins of Israel on the Jews as a whole just as you cannot 9/11 on Muslims as a whole. About the only descent thing George W. Bush did as President was to go into a mosque right after 9/11 and say that Islam was not to blame for that atrocity and that it was the religion of peace. Likewise I would say that Judaism is also the religion of peace and rationality and that Israel's Gaza slaughter was un-Jewish, as 9/11 was un-Islamic and the Holocaust was un-Christian.
I am speculating and making a lateral argument here, having had my fill debating the usual Holocaust denial rubbish. I will go one step further. Blame Hitler and centuries of European anti-Semitism and not the Jews for creating the monster that Israel has become. Had these not existed there would have been no need to an Israel. And one more thing. The Bishop, besides being out of his mind, is also politically naive. The US, dominated by a White Protestant Anglo-Saxon ruling class, would not be supporting Israel until national and geo-political economic interests were involved.
Finally, I've search for that last big Holocaust debate we had with no success. i presume it is now cyber dust. Too bad as a lot of it could have been useful here in dealing with the mad Bishop and his equal mad supporters.

Thank you caliOcat. More could be said, but for our own education rather than convincing the Holocaust deniers that they are wrong.
When the good Bishop and his like demand and demand "proof" which they summarily dismiss and then demand proof again that the Holocaust happened they are begging the question. It is like denying World War II happened because one finds every proof of the obvious wanting.
The Bishop is not a sceptic withholding judgement until all the evidence is in. He is a bigot. What proof does he have or a Masonic-Zionist conspiracy that wants to take over the world? Zero. Likewise, he has zero reasons to deny or "doubt" the Holocaust.
The truth is in your face. The piles of corpses at the concentration camps. The corpses at Babi Yar and other sites of mass executions. The thousands if not millions of eye-witness accounts. The people who reject this sort of evidence nevertheless cling to the discredited falsehoods of the Leuchters and the Rudolphs. It would be a big joke were circumstances attending their beliefs so bloody horrid.
Hitler and his crew believed in eugenics. They began with killing off the so-called useless eaters, the physically and mentally disabled, then they went for the Poles and the Jews and other "unfolkisch" people they came across, be they dissidents, homosexuals, slavs, possibly blacks and, of course, Gypsies, who lost a greater proportion of their population than the Jews.
There are honest debates about the Holocaust but the deniers do not belong to them. I myself do not like the way the Holocaust is generally presented, ipso facto excluding non-Jewish victims (a conservative number of 5 million people). I believe that the definition of genocide should include mass murder of people of a particular political persuasion, which would very likely raise the Holocaust numbers significantly. I also think that many supposed casualties of war are Holocaust victims.
But I repeat, the deniers with their fake evidence are out of the discussion. That goes for everyone up to the Bishop. The Bishop is a bigot who wants the inconvenient truth of the Holocaust to go away.

Yeah, more typical Japanese racist venom. You will notice that the targets are tourists and resident foreigners, the majority of whom were born here. Nothing is said about the only significant source of foreign crime in Japan: the US military.
Anyway, this is an article that ought to be read by anyone considering coming to Japan to work or for the holidays. Your money is wanted here but not you. Stay home.

Bishop Williamson is more than an ass. He is out of his mind. A Judo-Masonic conspiracy sounds like a bit of paranoia out of the 19th century. So much for the Bishop, as far as I am concerned. Why the Pope lifted Williamson's excommunication is another matter.
As far as the Holocaust denial in this thread, we have been through all of that before. Williamson bases much of his Holocaust denial on Frederick A. (Fred) Leuchter, Jr.'s report on analysis of masonry stolen from Auschwitz, which has been totally refuted, as I exhaustively showed in the debate over the David Irving affair a few years ago.
For the record, the Holocaust killed around 11 million people, around 6 million of whom were Jews. The Gypsies lost a larger proportion of their population than the Jews, though the number of their people slaughtered by the Nazis was around 250,000. The only thing "complex" about the Holocaust is not whether it happened--it did--but who can properly be called Holocaust victims as opposed to casualties of war. Gas chambers were only a part of the mechanisms of mass murder. The Jews rounded up and slaughtered by the Nazis and their Ukrainian collaborators at Babi Yar were shot to death.
I am mystified why the Pope would rehabilitate a creature like Bishop Williamson. But then, I also wonder why the Church never posthumously excommunicated Adolph Hitler, who was born a Catholic and never repudiated his Catholicism.

Avast me hearties, shiver me timbers and hardy har har. The pirates have got their sacks of doubloons and pieces of eight and are off to bury it on Treasure Island. Again the likes of Black Beard, Captain Kidd and Long John Silver have gotten the best of the world's navies with their swift little pirate ships flying the Jolly Roger.
Maybe this is a message in a bottle that the Chinese and Japanese warships that are off to fight the pirates are totally useless, except for delivering ransoms in the hope that the pirates will inadvertently go down to Davy Jones in the process of getting them. Maybe it is time to go to the history books and see how merchantmen of old dealt with the pirates.

In the midst of a growing depression we get this piece about dating. Ira Gershwin was right:

So here is are my thoughts on the ongoing depressed dating market for gaijin women.
The fact is there a great disparity somewhere. On one hand you have all of these desperate, love-starved foreign women. On the other hand you have all these Japanese knife-wielding maniacs out slashing people because they can't get dates.
It seems to me that if these knife-wielding maniac would post their messages about their plans to kill people in English there would be tons of foreign women who would pounce on them with heart and soul. If we could get the Japanese knife-wielding maniac / lonely gaijin woman network going we'd be killing two birds with one stone, if you'll pardon the expression. The best thing is that the knife-wielding maniac would be subdued because he would have the opportunity to stick something other than a knife into a warm body. The satisfied gaijin woman would spare us from heart-breaking articles like this one.
Of course, the foreign women would have to be trained in how to interact with knife-wielding maniacs. For example.
Knife-wielding maniac: The pound killed my puppy when I was a kid. Now I feel like cutting up public servants.
Gaijin woman: I understand how you feel honey. Do you think I could replace you puppy?
Knife wielding maniac: Wow, that would be great! Can you fetch?
Gaijin woman: Sure honey. And I love having my belly rubbed.
See, the Gaijin woman has been carefully trained not to say something like, "I can play dead too." Not the thing you want to say to a knife-wielding maniac.
Because she knows what to say and what not to say the lonely gaijin woman and the knife-wielding maniac are headed for ever-lasting bliss, even if the Rockies may crumble and Gibraltar may tumble.
So who's putting my hand down of the Nobel Prize short list?

There is an often told joke about the beautiful woman who slinks up to the CEO at a party and says, "Darling, take me; I'll do anything you want." The CEO answers, "Revalue my stock options." Particularly in the US "corporate greed" has reached unrivaled lows of depravity. It is the greed of a few people who have too much wanting more, even if it means wrecking the system that supports them.
One thing that Obama's cry of shame against the CEOs underscores is this: be it good times or bad American CEOs' incomes have nothing to do with their performance. They are immune to the pains we ordinary people suffer when the economy goes belly up. If there is any historical comparison to be made it between them and the pre-revolutionary French aristocracy. The CEOs live in a modern modular version of Versailles where they never see or hear of the social consequences of their greed.

President Obama pointed out the obvious and good for him. The shame has been around for a long time. CEOs are overpaid. That they are overpaid and have led American capitalism, and hence world capitalism, to ruin makes their bonuses doubly shameful. There something wrong with these worthless CEOs living the high life on bail out money while working people are unemployed or struggling to get by.
Capitalism in the US is about as bad as it gets, even in good times. But corporate capitalism is universally a monster that bring profits to a few out of the sweat of many.
"At what point did we vote to give business a free ticket to control the world? " We did not vote for this. Was imposed on us long ago.
Now that times are bad you know just how bad corporate capitalism is.

You something skip, Israel was once Hamas's biggest supporter because they saw it as alternative to the PLO. That aside, Hamas is no more the KKK or Nazi party than Likhud. And that aside, it was an elected government and whatever it was the basic rules of civilized international law dictate that the people's rule has to be respected. Israel, were it not run by fanatics and opportunists, would have made diplomatic efforts to work with that elected government. That is what normal civilized people do. But Israel has forgone being a civilized country for all its high cultural trappings. Nazis? The Israelis are the new Nazis.

Hitler couldn't have said better. Israel pro-freedom. Not for the Palestinians. Israel started the hostilities by imposing a blockade on Gaza. Firing the rockets was a futile act on the part of Hamas. But remember that before that Israel bombed Gaza because of tunnels--the only way the people could get need supplies.
What Israel did in Gaza was criminal. Israel will eventually pay a price for its crimes against humanity. All that is keeping it afloat is American support. That cannot be considered eternal. If Israel wants to survive and live in peace it has got to stop being a war criminal nation and allow the Palestinians to have an independent country.

Good for Erdogan, and shame on David Ignatius for not giving him equal tine to answer that Israeli murderer. Israel began the hostilities with its blockade, which is an act of war. Israel began these hostilities because it did not like that the people of Gaza elected Hamas to represent them in free and open elections. Gaza is indeed an open air prison, but one in which Israeli soldiers slaughtered innocent civilians, including women and children.
One can almost forget for a Turkish oppression of its minorities and its denial of the Armenian Holocaust. Good for Erdogan for snubbing one the butchers of Gaza and the swine who cheered him.
