So Japanese. A person, who by their own admission, has "not been a good person", seeks redemption by trying "serious" acting in a TV drama. Rather than say something useful like public service, charitable work, or possibly even religion. Who would dare call this society shallow?

greentea...Completely agree. Unless he gets on a weight-training program in the near future, he is going to have a rude awakening if he ventures outside of Asia to compete. But, if he bulks up, then he'll lose his appeal to all the J-ladies here who fawn over their little "Prince."
