What a laugh. Aso talks as if Japan has actually solved the root problems that caused the collapse of the bubble economy. Everyone with half a brain knows that is not the case. All Japan did was borrow massive amounts of money -- the highest debt to GDP ratio among the G7 -- to prop up banks and zombie companies that should have gone under. And spend on huge public works projects. As a result, the Japanese domestic economy is still terribly inefficient and the country is still way too dependent on foreign trade, particularly with the U.S. Not to mention that all this simply delayed action needed to fix the pension plan. Some example. Sorry, but I hope the G20 looks for leadership elsewhere.

For pity sake. If every person in my college class who smoked weed had been arrested, there would have been no one at graduation. A typical Japanese exercise to demonstrate action, but, in reality, turning a blind eye to the real problems of this society.

Deepinside and northlondon...agree completely. One could argue that she is the biggest victim of this whole tragedy -- assuming she loved and trusted her husband. Leave her alone and let her deal with the dual realities of likely having her husband convicted of a criminal offense, and the fact that they are broke.

How predictable. Doesn't Japan ever get tired of falling back on a "spirit" that died generations ago? Except of TV and in the movies, of course.

I'm no math wiz, but, if they are supposed to cut 6% from the benchmark year, but are now 8.7% above, that says they have a big problem -- almost 15% reduction required. And they are increasing, not decreasing. Didn't Fukuda tout Japan's environmental leadership at the G8 (?) meeting in Hokaido this past summer? Typical Japan, all talk and good intention, but no real results.

Another Japanese "talent" making a living off of other countries' real talent and creativity. Great gig if you can get it.

Sarge...glad I made you laugh. Care to explain how/why? Have you seen this place, or are you commenting out of ignorence? Which tends to be your style.

sabiwabi...your views of American politics are as off target as your opinions on Japanese history. America has been lucky to survive the Bush, Cheney, Rice, Libby, Wolfowitz, et al collection of neocons. Give Obama some credit -- he is more of a realist than an ideoloque like Bush. That along is a HUGE step in the right direction. Oh, by the way, you forgot to mention that Powell supports his views, and there is talk that Gates may well stay on at Defense. Last I looked, those guys were Bush appointees.

In my opinion, this "new" place is a blight on Omotesando. They basically just took the old McDonalds, and ripped out all the first floor seating. So now all the folks are sitting/eating along the sidewalk with bags of fries and hamburgers all the way up to Anniversaire Cafe. Completely ruined the ambiance of what was a small part of Tokyo with some class.

toguro...I agree with you -- half-way. I agree that rjd_jr is right. Many of the reactions here are too defensive. But, I honestly feel it is in the exact same vein as the ASDF major shopping in the buff. This guy is only 21. The major was 30-something. And both showed a terrible lack of judgement.

Sarge...please, you are losing all sense of reality "Liberals just to love to tear down our country" simply ignores the reality of the past 8 years and how Bush, Cheney, Rove, et. al did everything in their power to tear down and rip apart our country.
Athletes...well said.
