tkoind2, USAkuman and jeancolmar...great posts. But don't waste your time arguing reality/facts with the likes of FandB. They are simply ideoloques who will say or do anything to smear someone who poinys out the absurdidty of their arguments. Their "hero(ine)" is someone who is so simple minded she has to state openly she is not going to answer the real questions she is asked, just the ones she wants (can) answer. But, because she says all the right things, and can smear with the best of them, she's qulified to be VP. The moral high ground has never been something these folks can claim, and they are going to resort to the tried and true Karl Rove attck-dog style for the next four weeks. Luckily, the polls say the voters are sick and tired of this crap.

coulrophobic...well-written rant, but a rant nontheless, as it avoids the facts scrupulously, just like Palin. If you don't like Matt Taibbi, try Patel's opinion. Same conclusion -- she is totally unqualified and it reflects terribly on McCain that he chose her. But, the good news for the Dems is that he has been forced to go off message many times recently to defend her. Like his lame defense of her to Katie Couric. My God, she could not even adequately expalin her own claim -- that Alaska's proximity to Russia gives her foreign policy credentials.

cleo...100% agree. All Palin had was some superficial "knowledge" she crammed over the past few weeks, and some stock one-liners her staff wrote for her. Do we really want a VP who winks into the camera? Does not understand she is runiing for VP, not still competing for Miss Alaska? (Where she was second-best by the way as well.) Cannot understand how anyone could believe she is qualified to meet with heads of state, which a VP has to do on numerous occassions.

Those here for the 2002 World Cup like I was probably hope that Japan does NOT get this. If you don't then you've got short memories. In short, the country was extra-paranoid about foreigners then due to all the scare stories blanketing the media about soccer "hoodlums". I vividly remember NHK having numerous pieces on the steps all the various riot police were taking to deal with the anticipated problem -- including shots of practice riots with water cannons. And, many hotel owners in Sapporo refused to take English fans, due to the fear factor. Unless the country has changed in a few years -- yeah, right -- I cannot imagine they will be any more welcoming to the hard-drinking/heavy-partying rigby fans.

What is the offense he committed? Fishing without a license perhaps? By the way, I wonder if he practiced "catch and release"? Anything over a size medium gets tossed.

How come the "moral standpoint" only reared its ugly head when he became Chief Cabinet Secretary? Are we to presume he had no morals before yesterday -- like virtually all his counterparts? What a laugh.

chibaman...actually, I'm with Baboohat on this one. I would prefer to have a real life, even if that means not knowing who any of these three are. Knowing all the 20-something Japanese "talentos" is not something that I particularly would brag about.

God help us all. Structural reform is dead as a door nail, as will be any meaningful moves to address the shortfall in pension funding. Aso may be a "hawk", but he is a "chicken hawk" since he does not have the guts to raise the consumption tax, which everyone knows is needed. Easier just to build more roads to give a temporary boost to the economy and let the next PM deal with the root problems. Koizumi-style politics are just a distant memory now. LDP-style pork barrel is back in full strength.

Since I have a passing familiarity with French, this at least makes me laugh at what I presume is the intended play on words/pun. However, the "Foodium" in Shinagawa station still leaves me scratching my head as to what the person who created that name had in mind.

Sorry, but I will disagree with many of the posters here. (I know, no surprise there.) The only folks I feel sorry for are the administrative/clerical employees of Lehman, and the owners of Heartland bar, who won't have the Lehman trader-guys throwing their money around anymore to impress the J-gals. And Mori, that is hung with a lot of space. Respectfully, these traders are highly paid gamblers who manage risk as part of their job. They add no real value to the economy or society, and just push the prices of commodities up. So, if they took a risk on Lehman, and got burned, so be it. No one felt sorry for them when they were raking in their big annual bonuses. That sword cuts both ways.

Makes you wonder why they have kept her under wraps since the convention? And now they only agree to a tightly-controlled situation. She is supposed to be running for public office, but does not want to answer questions from the public. Palin has less than one month before her debate with Joe Biden. Bet she and the Republican brain-trust are very nervous.

Romeo...Does someone have to draw you a picture, or can you connect the dots yourself? Yup, Palin got a lot of viewers -- and pissed off hundreds of thousands of them. That's why Obama had a record day in contributions. No one on the Democratic side is worried. She still thinks a Kurd is something that you get in cottage cheese, and the next 60 days will give plenty of time for her to fall on her face. Reading a speach behind teleprompters before the converted is one thing. Facing off with Joe Biden in a debate is something entirely different. As soon as the questions go beyond her family and hockey, she's toast.

ColAmerica...you might want to find a new circle of friends. Yours can't seem to understand that the last eight years have been a disaster for the U.S. -- both domestically and internationally. And, nominating a guy who is a Bush clone, and a woman who says the U.S. is doing "God's work" in Iraq, is simply dangerous.
