i was beat pretty bad as a kid, which is 1 reason why i would never "beat" my kids. i may, on the very rare occasion, give them a light whack, but that is always followed with an explanation of why i felt the whack was needed. obviously kids need to be disciplined. it helps then understand right from wrong as they are still too young to decipher that themselves. just depends how you decide to discipline them. as for japanese parents. i don't see any real discipline at all from them. a whack in the side of the head sometimes, which is totally useless, not to mention dangerous. the parents here rely on the schools to teach their kids right from wrong & when the child does something wrong they immediately blame the teacher. the parents don't seem to want any responsibility at all . seems they think that their only responsibility is financial. quite sad actually.

although it is a step in the right direction, it will take a good while before it starts to work. japanese basically have no clue about the court system & the govt. has been very slow in introducing it to the japanese. but, with what i believe is the highest prosecution rate in the world, everyone pleads guilty due to pressure, etc... hopefully not so many innocents will be put behind bars. what they need to implement are cameras in interrogation rooms. that would be a big step towards justice.
