japan might make a better impression on the world stage if it could finally throw off the shackles of its past and start looking to a new future rather than trying to live off an idealised image of its past, or poor approximations of culture from abroad
manga isn't exactly a heavyweight cultural export. i was quite interested in it in my teens, but not anymore

well, freedom of speech (supposedly) does not give you the freedom to yell fire in a crowded theatre. you could argue that a game that rewards the player for committing crimes is thus not defensible under freedom of speech

the comments related to the national health insurance raised on this tread are particularly concerning. however, i'm out of here in a few months so glad this will not be affecting me. more things to add to the "thank god i'm outta here soon" list, to balance out having to say sayonara to all my buddies

unfortunately, a lot of the sensible suggestions on this thread would require the government to be flexible towards those that do not fit into pre-existing, tight and narrow conditions
ie. prepare to be disappointed

saw angels and demons last night. was alright. didn't finish watching the davinci code, so can't quite gauge how it compares. i do wonder, though, why you might go and see the films if you've read the books, as i have, unless you go with someone who hasn't

doing this would require a concept that foreigners permanently emigrate to japan, of course intending to stay permanently. it still seems to me that japan has the meiji-era notion that foreigners come on a short-term basis to be made use of and then swiftly returned from whence they came
i suppose that in order to do this step one would be the creation of an immigration beareau

correlation is not direct evidence of cause and effect. single parent families are more likely to be poor, and live in poor neighbourhoods. in order to prove a link between single-parent families and crime it would be necessary to compare rates of delinquency between single-parent and nuclear families living in comparable income brackets
