if the suspect has valuable information then i believe that torture can be used to extract it... however, if the suspect does not have information but believes that giving false information will end the torture then he is liable to do just that. since the interrogators have no way of knowing whether or not the suspect has useful information (otherwise why torture at all?) the whole process becomes compromised

you get what you pay for. the computer market seems to be the only one in the world where people forget the fact that cheap has negative as well as positive connotations. a product purchased is not a "bargain" if it does not perform well enough to justify the money saved. but the pc market has people forgetting that companies will always have to cut corners in order to achieve cheaper prices than their competitors

the problem with communism is its worrying tendency to slide into dictatorship. at best you get a hellish bureaucracy. in truth, it seems that most communist states seem to be more founded on Leninism; Lenin hated the proletariat. he saw them as just a means to an end

i can certainly understand nissan wanting to tailor its products to an ageing demographic, but i think it's high time the government stepped in and started clamping down on over-age drivers drivers for the sake of safety on the roads. i hope it happens soon. so i agree with sydeham, but i worry that there's a certain arrogance in the elderly which with exacerbate the problem

i'm no expert but in order to actually design a dress a certain amount of training must be required. after all, even if you can draw a nice picture of something you need to have some appreciation of the manufacturing and fitting processes. i'm sure GW & wanderlust are correct. i wonder if there is any legal matter or technicality that must be seen to in order to permit this? surely otherwise it is false advertising to say that the dresses are designed by her.

lots of people are descending it discussions of the relative violence of islam vs. christianity. however, this discussion is supposed to be about the ability of the west and islam to co-exist. seeing as we are discussing violence, would it be right to assume that you all believe this is impossible? seeing as the two cultures are both so violent, n'all?
ps. it is interesting to note that the topic is islam vs. "the west" whereas it seems to me that "can islam and the rest of the world coexist?" would be an equally pertinent question.
