the title is misleading. it should be "record labels remove requirements for copy protection on the itunes store in exchange for a tiered pricing programme". apple has never been an advocate of DRM, it has always been the labels that wanted it

no, thank the lord, it may well have had its day. if anyone is a villain in the music business it is the music business itself

whether or not you like mcdonalds or not, i really feel strongly that their (very powerful) way of marketing to children should most definitely be illegal. children don't have the mental ability to make rational purchasing decisions and are easily swayed with bright lights and smiling (actors) faces
in fact, i think any advertising aimed at children is questionable, full-stop

people who don't wait for you to get off the train before they barge on. i was once about to get off a train as it pulled up to a station, only to have three people lined up in front of the doors, totally obstructing my way off the train. idiots. had to push my way through them in order to get off

the construction industry is thoroughly corrupt
Posted in: The government is squeezing health care and other social programs and then spending billions and trillions of yen on useless construction projects. Ibaraki is just a small example of that.

well in japan you have the choice between stuffy traditional culture and shallow popular culture, with not much in between.

the system makes me sick, really. a whole year of potentially useful education wasted (emphasis on potentially) so that graduates can be quickly herded into employment. after all, don't want them getting crazy ideas like travelling, further study, or just taking a break to clear their heads before starting 40 something years on the hamster wheel. this is the reason for "may disease", it seems
as for the graduates, i hope they take this setback as an opportunity to think more carefully about the options open to them other than taking up employment at a private corporation
Posted in: We'll notify companies that revoking employment offers to graduating students without proper reasons is illegal.

vagante says it all. this sort of thing won't stop until people start refusing to accept it. imo the whole "fureeta" thing is a subtle (and quite ineffective) reaction to the whole problem
but then i suspect the economy is propped up on all the free labour private companies get from their workers each week. they must get at least 30% gratis from the average employee
Posted in: Due to long working hours, I can't pay much attention to my children. I'm worried whether continuing this lifestyle is wise. However, I can't just quit, as I have to earn a living.

i don't mind the english in the ads. they have the japanese for the japanese speaking populace but also the english for the foreign populace. yes, not all foreigners are english speakers but if so they are likely to read the japanese. i think it's quite rare to find someone in japan who speaks neither japanese nor english
can we have an ad about people using you shoulder as a pillow next, please? and then one about people who barge onto the train before letting passengers off. these are pet-peeves of mine

i had to a apply a couple of times to get a card, but was eventually able to get one linked to the account into which i was receiving (a pretty good, at the time) monthly salary.
