worst accident i had at home when i was a kid was a high-speed contact with a door frame. foolish, but kids love to run and door frames are a pretty unavoidable feature of a house. needless to say i learnt my lesson and never ran indoors again

it seems to me that a huge part of being a child is learning the physical limits of your own body. it does, after all, vary somewhat from person to person. kids are always sustaining injuries, it goes with the territory. trying to wrap them in cotton is only going to disadvantage them in the long run.

i'm not a parent, but imagine "child-proofing" a house (but without turning it into a padded cell) must be a challenge.

More young Japanese parents need to be educated about the "accidents at home" statistic that westerners have been told.

i definitely agree with this. i think even western parents need to be reminded of this constantly. all the media attention on pedophiles and child abductions but the truth is the kitchen is most dangerous place children ever go

he behaves like a normal guy

i think this is probably the root of why he is generally pretty popular

Dear cell phone manufacturers, please read this very carefully: in order to sell your smart phones here, all you need to do is slap on support for mobile internet such as imode or ezweb, keitai specific email, and ic chip so people can have their suica. So far NOT A SINGLE SMART PHONE has it and that's why they don't sell. you should pay me for this, really...

it's true that japanese phones have developed a lot of proprietary technology that people have got rather used to in the past few years. it's a shame that such a focus on these features might discourage the adoption of open/international standards that could offer the same functionality. but i'm afraid that's very typical behaviour

Posted in: Just because it sells overseas doesn’t necessarily mean Japanese consumers will take to it. It’s unlikely that Android will become an instant hit, but the platform has a lot of potential three to five years down the road.

This idiot is gonna have the rest of her life to reflect on this little mistake.

they didn't care that much about him when he was alive, what makes you think they'll care much more now that's he's gone?

as far as entrepreneurs go, he's one of the most high profile. and he seems to be one who has got through his career with a mostly extremely good, positive public profile

Of COURSE religion has something to do with what happened, but it's not religion that's to BLAME, it's the man who twisted religion for his own purposes. People shouldn't vilify Christianity for it, they should limit the vilifying to the man who committed this heinous crime.

i disagree. any belief system that discourages individuals to think objectively, analytically and responsibly is bound to result in bloodshed somewhere down the line.

the dish-washer (same companies) has a condensation function, so that the water taken from the dishes is send where it belongs: into the kitchen sink

i have a device that has a very similar function. it's called a drying rack

I've never heard of this problem for Japanese who have worked in Germany, France, UK, or US for a few years

either they were lucky, very senior or you didn't probe enough. it's well known that returning employees are treated with suspicion

i'd like to suggest a link with the even greater amount of excessive overtime expected by companies at this time of year

well, perhaps they'll have to admit that the term "pro-life" is inaccurate at best. i suggest they start using the more accurate and truthful term "pro-dogma"

    envy of America

people "envy" the very attractive image america is able to create for itself; glamour, riches, cars, possessions, whateveryouhaveit. the reality is that america is not that much better a place than any other. it is just that; a place. i don't envy americans because i'm not naive enough to believe that if i lived there i would necessarily be better off than i am now

I can understand them not trusting banks, but really, when the economy went balls up, they should've sent that cash to overseas bank accounts.

if they had trouble trusting banks run by ware ware nihonjin banks, i can't see that they would trust gaijin banks

whilst i should point out i've never driven in japan, nor ever want to, as for stopping distance between cars, the worst offenders for this i have experienced are definitely americans. sorry. they also fail for being the most confrontational/aggressive drivers i have experienced.

maintenance - all Japanese i 've met are always very shocked and think how japan is great when they see the number of broken down cars on hard shoulders of expresways abroad... hence the hard shoulders are needed so much. go a simple journey of 100 miles round say London on the "expressway" you will without fail see 2 to 10 broken down cars every journey. In Japan almost never. but hey dont have to pay so much for the maintenance or care about it so much in the uk so depends what you prefer. I get the impression basically this guy seems to know little about driving or japan, or really is in the wrong place and or wrong job.

the japanese throw away their cars before the get old enough. disposable culture, so much for eco
