It would be interesting to know if someone would get more punishment or less if they used the same excuse but weren't under the influence.

You don't need to be in the bathtub to have sex in the bathroom! I think Statistician has the right idea though.

I'm not sure if 18 years old should be considered a minor for crimes. Also, it wasn't a bicycle check, but rather that the police took chase because the boy suddenly took off (ie. was a very suspicious character).

Had the boy calmly rode off the police might not have even noticed him until the clerk said something. Or perhaps the clerk alerted the police as the boy was leaving.

In any case, it certainly doesn't sound like a normal 'bicycle check'.

Born in Manchuria in 1920... She returned to Japan

Interesting to be sure, but I'm wondering how one can 'return' to a country in which they've never been...

Just like any book or movie for children, parents need to decide for themselves whether or not their children are ready for it. Too often I see parents letting their children watch, read or do anything they want and then wonder why they can't control their children.

Putting neutered cats back into the streets does a lot to reduce the overall population of cats. If you just kill or remove the cats more stray cats will come and take their place. Cats are territorial so the neutered cats prevent other cats from moving in. Someone else wrote about this and had statistics to back it up but I'm just relaying the information.

Interesting discussion on both sides! I live in Fukuoka so the trains aren't crowded like they are in Tokyo. Never been groped nor have I seen anyone else being groped, but then I'm rarely on a train that is so crowded that would make the crime easily committed.

Hm, it doesn't make much sense. How long does he think he could operate a shop that sold stolen bicycles?

It's interesting that the police are being condemned here rather than the true culprits. I wonder why this is?

Jesssssicaa, that's 5 and 3/4 pizza's in 6 minutes, not 59. Keep in mind that they are 1 pound each, that's 5.75 pounds of pizza or almost 1lb/min. He did eat 59 hot dogs in 10 minutes though.

As for your 3rd post...they tied at 59 hot dogs in ten minutes, so they had another go at eating 5 more. It seems that Chestnut was able to choke down 5 dogs slightly before Kobayashi. Hope that helps.

This is a great idea. There are so many reasons why biking is good for everyone. It does have risks involved, but so does living. As long as you pay attention and follow the rules of the road, there is really no reason why it shouldn't be safe.

As for people suggesting that companies ban the use of bikes, I don't see how they can do that. What you do on your own time shouldn't be monitored and can't be enforced in my opinion, as long as it doesn't affect your work in the company. In any case, any company that tries to dictate your personal life may not be worth working for.

Following that argument, I'm not sure how people can claim worker's compensation if they get injured to or from work. If you're not actually "On the clock" how can you claim this? I know there will be exceptions to the rule where traveling is a required part of the job, etc., but for the most part this doesn't make any sense to me.

Lastly, I think that it's about time that companies compensated people for their commute and not by how they commute. If it's your companies policy to reimburse your for your commute, then they shouldn't discriminate between riding a bicycle and any other means. I know that companies do this, but for me, riding a bicycle has been more reliable than taking a bus, train or car. I haven't missed a day of work or been late, whereas my other co-workers have had minor problems with their transportation at some time which caused problems with their arrival time. So, it irks me somewhat that they are compensated for their daily commute whereas I am not. It still costs money (albeit a low amount) to buy and maintain a bicycle.

Now that this article is out, maybe I can show it to my boss to see if he will agree...

speeding, texting and doing make up. Those are the kind of assumptions you might make if the person was 20-30 years younger.

If I were trying to imagine what happened (using her age to create a stereotype), I would think that this person was overly cautious with her foot OFF both the gas and brake allowing the car to creep back slowly.

Then, she suddenly saw something that caused her to panic and jammed her foot down on what she thought was the brake, but missed and hit the accelerator instead.

However, since there is no information it's really impossible to know exactly what happened. I've seen people driving while doing some of those things, but never while backing up.

That's too bad...I have a Toshiba phone and I really love it. It was the only brand carried by Softbank that had all the features I wanted...Looks like I might have to switch companies should I want a new phone!

You're kidding right? (thepro). Getting children to be models has been an age old custom since before I can remember. I have known friends at the age of 14 becoming models. Nothing new.

In this case, it seems that these girls are hosting a children's show, so it doesn't seem creepy or strange at all. I think it's pretty natural for a children's show to be hosted by people who are pretty much children themselves. It hopefully gives children a good role model. Much more natural than having them wear skimpy outfits and walking a catwalk somewhere in Milan...

This sounds a bit circumstantial though. If the man was found murdered in his cab does that mean the cigarette butt was found in the cab as well? At best, that places the suspect in the cab. Of course it's a good lead, but hardly enough evidence to convict alone. I hope they have more evidence than that.

When I first read the headline I thought that it seemed a bit unfair, but after reading the article it is actually very accommodating.

Anyone who just doesn't FIT into the space will be given two seats together (if available) at NO EXTRA charge.

It's only if the plane is full and there are no extra seats available that over-sized people will be inconvenienced. They will be bumped from the flight and will have to take another flight. They will only have to purchase an extra ticket if they want to be 'safe' from being bumped again. Should they choose to not go, they will be refunded their money.

On the one hand, it seems that they are being discriminated against, but really it's a matter of space (not weight as others have suggested). A compact but very muscular and heavy person wouldn't have to worry as long as they fit into the seat or space provided. Simple as that.

There has to be something seriously messed up with their 'culture' if they have to have it written as a law in order to have sex with their own wives.

Equally disturbing is the part where they need to ask permission to 'leave' the house. So what part of this is NOT slavery?
