I would have more sympathy for this woman had her career not spanned 60 years. That's about one arrest every 2 years or so. I'm assuming that she must have spent some time in jail as well, but who knows how many other times she stole but wasn't caught.

I have to agree with Reinaert. There is barely any usable information here. How big is the unit. How much does it cost to replace the cartridges. What's the output like? How does it compare to other printers in the same category? Why is the product even newsworthy? Is it special in some way? (ie) wireless printing.

I have a question about this law. Does it include minors, or can only adults be charged? The reason I ask is because what about parents who drive home under the influence with their children, or worse someone else's children? Who would be liable then? Just the drunk driver, or would the parent's of the children who got a ride from the drunk adult also be liable (assuming they knew).

The laws certainly have changed quite a lot since I was a child and enforced even more. I think it's a smart law, but only if the police are willing to enforce it.
In my country, bars and restaurants can also be held liable for a drunk driver if they knowingly serve them and let them drive home. I'm guessing that it's part of their responsibility to know that the people they're serving are going to be reasonably okay after they leave. Is it the same in Japan?

I think the main message is that because it's so hard to lose weight it's best if you don't gain weight to begin with. For people who say it's easy to lose weight, I wonder how much they have had to lose and for how long. Also, it's a lot easier to do that when you're young. As you get older your body really fights to hang onto all the weight you've gained. This articles is NOT about giving people excuses.

Public libraries are still free. This is not a public library, but a private one. Kind of like a member's only club library. Although I question that they only allow on book per month. They might do better to just allow certain books to be lent out and keep the bestsellers, etc. for sale. After all, you have to subscribe for $79/year which isn't all that cheap (unless it provides free movies).

Almost everyone has one or more foods that they dislike. So what! If everyone liked the same things, life would be boring and predictable. What I don't understand is when some people insist that you should try a food once more if you told them you dislike it. As far as I'm concerned, if someone doesn't like something that I do, it's all the more for me!

It's interesting that most people here think that there are going to be a lot of NEW rules regarding bicycles. When I first got my driver's license, there was a whole section on bicycles, and guess what? Those rules already exist.
Basically speaking, bicycles are supposed to be ridden on the road, not the sidewalk UNLESS it's too dangerous to do so or if the sidewalk has signs that indicate that bicycles are allowed. As someone else mentioned, they have the same rules applied to them as vehicles under 50cc.
Helmets are required for children up to the age of 16 (I think, I don't remember that part well) and lights are required for night time riding.
Another interesting point is that if a bicyclist breaks the traffic law (ie running a red light) they are MORE heavily fined that a motor vehicle.
All of this, however, depends on whether or not the rules are actually enforced.
(just a quick comment about the thumbs up/down: I think it would be nice if it had a total number of thumbs up and thumbs down, not just a final tally)

It's basically an overpriced portable calculator. You would still need to figure out the amount of calories you're consuming and allow for a lot of guessing on the caloriemeter's part.

Frungy, while I accept that one purpose of incarceration is for the hope of rehabilitation, the main purpose seems to be of punishment. Note that I am neither condoning nor complaining about this, but just stating what I have observed. If it were not for punishment, then why such backwards and barbaric treatment?
I also will concede that it is also meant to be a deterrent. I think the bit about capital punishment is a whole new topic, so I won't go into that.

While I can understand the logic of what this article is saying, I thought that the point of putting people in prison was for punishment, not just a means to keep them out of trouble and/or hurting public.
Also, aren't there programs to 'employ' inmates or put them to work to help pay for their incarceration?
