I was super excited the first few moments of reading the title until reality set in and I realized that the movie will undoubtedly be over produced into a glossy 3D mania of mindless action and special effects without a proper story plot to hold the same fascination as the original.

I have a few questions.
First, how could the woman not recognize her own son's voice? Why would she not ask questions? Why were there no alarm bells going off in her head? I don't think anyone "deserves" to be robbed like this, but you would think that it wouldn't be so easy.
If the con man set up bank accounts for transferring money, shouldn't there be a paper trail for the police to follow?
In a follow up to the the last question..if a person is able to create an anonymous bank account somehow, shouldn't the banks change their procedures given that this scam is still going on?

@steve I believe that you are correct in that perhaps your comments are being marked down from your past postings. Although I sometimes disagree with your past posts, I find it interesting that much of what you say is in line as what others are saying, yet your post is being singled out. Perhaps people are not reading your post through?
From what I understand of the article, I believe the statement that these women are trying to express is that regardless of their attire, sexual desires or even behaviour, they have a right to choose to have sex or not. Perhaps a more stark example would be that even if they were prostitutes, it does not give another person the right to rape them. That's just what I am getting from this.
I think that they have a valid point as well. Just because a woman may appear sexually alluring does not give another person the right to rape them.
I do think that dressing provocatively may indeed increase sexual desire but that is irrelevant. That's like saying someone who walks around scowling at people deserves to be murdered because they made the other person angry.

Perhaps in the far future it may be possible to 'replace' human workers with robots given that the technology is good enough, but in the "here and now" I can only imagine that these robots are just tools for the human staff, making their jobs a whole lot less physically demanding.
I think that most people would MUCH rather have a human to interact with and care for them, but I really don't think that this is what the article is about. It's about having a new piece of equipment which can take care of those tasks which are just too demanding for a lot of people.

Having volunteered at a centre with disabled people, I can easily see the benefit of having a "lifting robot"
First, getting a bed instead of using futons will make the task easier, but it doesn't eliminate lifting altogether. Transferring patients from their bed to a chair is still physically difficult even with all the techniques you have at your disposable especially if the patient is unable to help. I had to transfer this one quadriplegic from his wheelchair to another wheelchair using a "lifting machine" and it certainly wasn't easy. With some patients who had limited use of their legs, transferring them wasn't difficult but I can easily imagine the physical drain on both you and the patients if you had to do around all day long. By the way, from the many comments I read, it seems that many of the people are under the impression that these robots are designed to replace workers, but it appears that they will be used as a tool, not a replacement.

I think it should be noted that the headline states that they are criminals but later in the article they write that these people are only suspected of crimes. Doesn't that make them suspects rather than criminals?

I'm a computer/gadget guy. Love them, always have. I've used Macs, PCs, and systems with Linux. They all have the pros and cons. When I first saw the iPod Touch, I bought one for a present and was so impressed bought one for myself a few weeks later.
I really wanted to buy the iPad when it first came out, but like a lot of people wanted something that could replace my laptop, which the iPad isn't designed for. Even Apple will be the first to tell you that the iPad is NOT a replacement for your laptop or computer. Watch their ads.
When my laptop screen died on me I needed something to replace it quick because I used it at work to show videos. I was thinking about getting another laptop, but I didn't want to spend the cash on a laptop just for that. I convinced my boss to purchase an iPad, and haven't regretted it at all. I can't do all the things I could do that I could with my laptop but it does what I need much better than the laptop. I can easily whip it out to show a quick video clip. I also use it for many other things at work.
After seeing it at work, I decided to buy the new iPad 2 for myself. I now have a PC, iPad 2, iPod touch and a Mac at home. I normally use my PC for most things but when I want to surf the web really quick or send off a quick email I often grab my iPad as it's faster and easier and I can relax on the couch. I also use it to read books/manuals, etc.
I haven't really used the Mac yet as I just recently bought it (second hand) and I'm having a technical problem because I wanted to hook it up to the wireless internet. However Apple no longer makes the WiFi component for this so I ended up buying a USB wireless device which I can't seem to get working. Before this, I mainly have experience with PCs (which I built myself) so dealing with the Mac tech side has me a bit puzzled.
Anyway, the point is that both sides of the Mac/PC argument are correct and incorrect about the generalizations. Macs CAN be easier to use (for the most part) but not always. PCs do tend to be more adaptable and more configurable but are burdened with other problems such as incompatibility and are targets for viral infections. I do find that a lot of people tend to make judgments about the other platform without solid information. Some people do have good information, but are often extremely biased and one sided in their views and neglect to recognize all the facts.
In the end, people vote with their money. iPods/iPhones and iPads are now a strong presence when virtually no one had even heard of them 3 years ago. That's pretty amazing. Now, others are trying to catch up. I do hope that some other manufacturer makes an even better device!! By the way, I've been using my iPod touch for about 3 years now and yes, I've had it crash on me as well, but I've only had to do a hard reset once. I can't even count the number of times I had to reset my PC. I've also had some recent syncing problems with my iPad. (Don't close the smart cover while syncing!!)
So, nothing is perfect, but so far, so good!
I think it's wonderful that there are so many options available and look forward to the next tech break through.

I would certainly think that the taxi driver is way too gullible in this situation given the fact that few homeless men will look like they have enough money to pay for that kind of fare. I'm thinking that this wasn't the first taxi driver the man tried to con.
If the man wanted to be arrested, maybe he should have tried shoplifting at a really expensive store or something. That would be an 'almost' victim-less crime as the property would normally be returned and it seems that crimes like that are viewed more serious than other crimes.

I'm not sure of all the details, but 1095 yen doesn't seem much for a monthly plan. I'm wondering if that isn't on top of another fee. In any case, the plan sounds wonderful for keeping track of elderly people and if it's easy to use, maybe they won't have problems calling when they need help. However, if they feel it will keep track of wandering, forgetful people...what makes them think that these people will even remember to bring along their cell phone? If they want to do that, maybe they should start marketing those leg GPS devices. Strap it on and you can keep tabs on them. Kind of like prison though....

I agree with Equality that it's a smart move to make some money rather than just renting, but nowhere does he state this it's for altruistic reasons. When I visited the site, he was pretty much upfront about what he was doing and why. He basically wants to rent his apartment for a year but has no wish to rent to some person off the street whom might trash his place, so this way he gets a chance to interview potential tenants and hopefully find someone who will treat his place nicely. Even so, living in a foreign country for a year will be difficult even rent free if you don't have a job and you don't already have the money to support yourself unless you can get a working VISA. Australia does offer a working holiday VISA though, as long as you're under 30 (I believe).

I think that what a few people are missing here is the fact that the owner told the criminal that he didn't have any money which is why the guy left without anything. It's interesting because the criminal seemed to believe him. I imagine that the thief just weighed his options. Stab, and possibly kill the owner over a few yen, or flee. Sounds like the man was a bit desperate to begin with and perhaps on the fence about committing armed robbery anyway. Hopefully the guy took the owner's advice!

It doesn't sound like this person was really arrested for his dress code, but for his attitude and non-compliance. I don't think that his defense that his hands were full will work because it seems that he consistently ignored the airlines' requests.
I can easily imagine that when he was asked to pull up his pants he most likely had retorted in a belligerent or sarcastic tone that annoyed the airline staff member. As these people routinely have to put up with a lot of bad attitudes I would think that this fellow must have been particularly unpleasant for it to esculate to the point where he was arrested.
I'm constantly amazed how these non-incidents could have been completely avoided had people just been polite and cooperative.

It seems pretty stupid to be stealing money from an ATM machine from a person you just killed, but then it might be that he killed her for her money to begin with. It seems that criminals tend not to be overly bright...

Although the girl declined to press charges, I wouldn't assume that she was automatically "paid" off.
I would say that to press charges means that she would have to get involved and give a statement to the police. I can easily imagine many ways in which this is undesirable. First, she would have to re-live the scenario. I know many young girls (being a teacher) and I can confidently say that there are MANY girls who are very shy and unwilling to assert themselves. The last thing they want is more attention. It is very possible that the girl wanted to get out of there as quickly as she could and try to 'forget' about what happened.
Pressing charges also might mean involving her parents and while many parents would be understanding and supportive, there might be a few who may not be supportive. Also, whether the parents are supportive or not, the girl most likely doesn't want her parents to know what happened. Perhaps in her mind they would blame her.
I find it interesting that some people automatically think the worst of people. I wonder if they are just projecting their own thoughts?
