Hm, this is all interesting. I live far far away from the mess, but I still had family members and friends call because they were worried about me even though I had sent countless messages stating that I was completely fine.

I feel that in this whole case, hindsight is 20/20, don't you think?

I'm sure that if things had gone differently (and it seemed that on more than one occasion it could have) the people who left would have been deemed smart for leaving at the right time. Those who stayed would be pitied and be considered stubborn.

Really, it's all just a matter of perspective.

Hmm, it's interesting to see the conclusions drawn here. Perhaps indicative of what you expect people to be like.

Also interesting that no one has even considered that the child was stillborn.

After reading this story, it's my belief that one problem is the lack of real information made available for people in Japan. I'm not saying that there is no help or information out there, but it's just not readily accessible.

I believe that there should be more information given to people who are in special circumstances. For example, new parents. Perhaps it is, I'm not sure, but it seems that there really isn't enough education!

A lot of these cases would probably have been prevent had there been more information on how to be a parent. I'm definitely not trying to make excuses for these people, but if what they say is true, they really had no clue on how to raise a child, or what to expect from children at that age. Perhaps if they had been better informed, they would realize what was happening with their child and act appropriately rather than use a torture method.

I do realize that there are plenty of books out there, but I believe that a LOT of people just don't think about that simply because it doesn't occur to them.

    Just a thought.

I was under the impression that the law wants married couples to have the same surname. It doesn't state that it is the woman that MUST have her name changed although I do agree that tradionationally it has been the woman that changes her name and not the man.

I think it's important for family solidarity to share the same last name but I don't think it's important what that name is. What's wrong with a little compromise and allow a name change that suits both people.

@raymasaki: I agree that graffiti is ugly and NOT something I would normally tolerate, but to say that it was the wrong way to go about it is ignoring the facts.

The fact is that the message got across loud and clear and action was taken as it couldn't be ignored. It sounds like the situation has been looked into and action has been taken. Whether or not the action will end the bullying is impossible to tell, but something was done.

I wonder what action you would suggest that would be more effective (given that you were in the girl's place)?

Talk to a teacher, principal, parent? I doubt that it would have had the same effect. Also, perhaps she did talk to a teacher and was ignored, or worse nothing effective was done.

It sounds like they are just covering the bases. I doubt that they have actually conducted any studies or tests otherwise it would have been stated. However, that said, should it come out that the 3D games are damaging to the eyes, they can then say, "we warned you!".

Personally, I find the 3D fad thing annoying. It's not really that cool, and when I think back to the movies that I watched in 3D I didn't think "Oh, the 3D effects MADE the movie!"

In fact, the first time I saw the 3D effect with the Avatar, it actually pulled my attention away from the story at first because I was interested in the 3D effect.

Watching the movie again in 2D, I realized I didn't miss the 3D effect at all.

Thanks for finding the extra information Nigelboy, but before you go and condemn everyone perhaps you should realize that not everyone can read Japanese.

Poor people like me are confined to the likes of these sites with poor information.

It seems sad that this happened, but it also makes sense in a way. It seems that there was some sort of co-dependent relationship going on and even though she was being abused, she was unable to break away from the situation.

I really don't see how the police are to blame in this situation. It would be nice if there were some sort of law that allowed the police to judge a situation and decide if THEY wanted to press charges, not just the victim. Of course, that may leave the door wide open for a lot of abuses.

Actually, the story says that the company called the police reporting that a window was broken. It doesn't actually state that a window was in fact broken.

It could be that the alarm company detected an open window and just assumed that it was broken.

I wonder if their moms never told them that two wrongs don't make a right? Or in this case a delay for a lot of commuters.

Yes, I agree with Anotsusagami. If I were Miamum, I would have been quite upset at someone else 'laying' their hands on me regardless if it hurt or not. No one has the right to touch another person without their permission.

Of course that doesn't include incidental or unavoidable touching caused by cramming people into a tiny space.

A lot of these microwave ovens can be used as a regular convection oven as well. I had a cheap one when I first moved to Japan and I was able to make cookies, lasagna and whatever else I could fit into it. It was really great, although too small.

I love the Japanese microwave oven. Very versatile!

I'm just curious as to why many people feel that NK will suddenly start attacking Japan? I'm sure that Japan will feel a lot of repercussions from a war, but do you really think that NK will start attacking any and all countries that are nearby?

    This is normal in japan

riiiight .... because something similar happened to you, it's "normal" Japanese behaviour.

Siblings make fun of each other. It's what they do best. It seems that this boy just didn't know how to handle his emotions and actions. Anyone with sisters and brothers knows that no one can push your buttons like your own kin. I'm not suggesting in any way that this is the sister's fault at all, I'm just saying that it's normal for brothers and sisters to fight. What ISN'T normal is going after your sister/brother with a knife.

I have to agree with Fishy on this one. It just seems that the boy is having some mental problems and definitely needs help and understanding, not the short end of the rope. It's just too bad that he didn't get it before he did something that will haunt him for the rest of his life.

RIP little sis. Brothers are supposed to protect their sisters, not take them out.

Oh my. For all those people who are 'bored' with these books and or movies: Do you even realize it's for children?

I do know that many adults also enjoy these series, but if you don't like children's stories, then don't expect a story written for children to be the exact same as an adult one.

That said, the author does an excellent job of having the novels grow with the characters. I would say that the first book in the series is really written for a 10 year old child whereas the last book in the series is definitely for older children (15 and up).

Also, these books also cater to people who enjoy reading fantasy and not everyone is a fantasy lover. Also, comparing the Potter series to LOTR is just plain wrong. Completely different. I doubt there are many 10 year old children would can stay away long enough to finish those books.

You mean Deathly Hallows isn't the finale? Cripes.

Indeed Deathly Hallows is the final book in the series, but as stated above, it needs to be split into two parts in order to make it viable as a movie. Plus, they get more money for making two movies instead of just one.
