Maybe they should look at the old plans from WWII. Wasn't Nagano the backup for the Imperial family?

Well is the republicans responsible.... The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act was passed along party lines by a Republican vote in the Senate which repealed the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933. This allowed investment banking and regular backing to be mixed again. Part of the act also made laws against "bucket shops" illegal. This allowed pure gambling on wall street. This setup the real estate bubble with derivatives to almost destroy the world financial system. The S&P dollar amount of debt reduction is less than 1/2 of the yearly cost of the US war in IRAQ and Afghanistan both wars pushed by the republicans with not budget to pay for it. The extension of the "Bush tax cuts" also costs more than the amount that S&P wanted to see. The only think that kept the economy afloat was the Tarp, QE, and the stimulus package which all ended in July. The FED has limited options now, congress is not going to pass a stimulus package and the EU is haven't start on any stimulus package for the PIIGS. It also looks like maybe France will be joining the PIIGS. This leaves Germany as the only effective economy in Europe.
    Can you say DEPRESSION!

Forgot the debate about the debt ceiling in congress, cost the US 1.3 Billion in added interest and since they didn't do anything about FAA since June... altogether, it should come to $3.6 Billion by when congress comes back from their 5 week vacation to work Tuesday - Thursday. If they work a 3 day week, should the rest of the US?

    1) it's stupid for a country to have a debt ceiling - only 3 country have such a thing. 2) Congress should make deals about the budget when they are PASSING the budget. - Still have started on 2012 which starts in 1 1/2 months. 3) The debt is a problem because the GDP is down. Why is the GDP down, JOBS.

As for the rest of the world, since the US is the largest economy in the world... When the US sneezes, the rest of the world get a cold.
Then there is the European debt problem.... Interesting that Japan's debt problem doesn't seem to matter. 200% of GDP. In GDP terms, #1. Not a good thing.

I still don't see where they can say it was from a heart attack with no science behind the statement. Granted coronary arterial spasm caused by drugs, emotional stress, exposure to extreme cold, or smoking can lead to sudden death, but so can CHD. BTW, a hard hit to the chest can stop a heart but I wouldn't call it a heart attack. As for AED, that should be required in all public places. Many things can stop someone heart at any age, AED is your best hope. Since there should have been a team doctor, they should have a defibrillator just in case. Besides the players, you have the coaches and managers. Still it is said that they could do anything for him on onset; CPR at the very least. You have 4 minutes.

The US debt problem is less than 1/2 of Japans in GDP terms. If Japan wanted to pay off its debt, increasing taxes to 100% of income will not be enough by half.

I don't get it. Japan is the worlds biggest debtor nation in terms of GDP (225%) and that is before the tsunami. Based on that, shouldn't the yen be 350 to the dollar as it was in the 1970's? In a major downturn where exports will crash along with GDP, how can Japan service it's debt?

Japan presently has not capability to defend itself. In that sense, maybe Japan should keep quite. Japan would first need to change it's constitution to allow for a military build up. It's been something like 300 years since Japan had to bend to China. Guess history is about to repeat itself. Hmm, during those previous historical times, Korea was invaded multiple times. If anything the buildup in China is to prepare for a world of shortages, food and water. In that respect, Japan may not need to worry, since japan can't grow enough to feed itself and destroying it's water supply with nuclear power. The issue for Japan would be that they may not be able to import what they need and would be at the whim of the Chinese. I don't think they will play nice an share, since they still holding that 60 year grudge.

Well I am a market technician and there is nothing that says this is not just a continuation of the decline that started in Oct. of 2007 and hit an inter-term bottom in Mar. of 2009. The Dow broke the right shoulder of the head and shoulder top of a few days ago, broke the moving average trend line including the 200 day moving average and is now deeply over sold. That being said, the dow, S&P500 and NASDAQ are at near-term support levels. You should expect a bounce but historically there are times when you don't get the bounce and the market just crashes. Anyway, we should now be in the next leg or the bear market which should eventually take the dow below 6626. Of course, as go the dow....so enjoy the coming jet coaster ride as we enter and join Japan in a deflating world economy. BTW, political leader have no control on the economy, they can only help ease some effects... you feel better as when the US government started hiring the unemployed to do infrastructure projects in a deficit expanding policies of the 1930's. There is also a social economic theory that goes that we are starting a long term decline in civilization akin to the dark ages (duration 1500 years).

I don't know if it's correct to call these case of heat stroke. I think it's more proper to call them heat related deaths. Heat strokes requires a body temperature that goes above 40.6 c. For a country that doesn't do autopsies, they sure seem to know how people die. Heat increases as concrete increases. Tokyo used to have much more open land but now even the parks have buildings and paved paths. Basically, in the some large cities become a pizza oven.

It doesn't have to be murder... it could also be fraud. Grandma is 98 years old and has be heard from for a while. When they go to investigate, grandma just died. But in actually, she has be dead for 20 years and kept on ice at the nursing home where the monthly government checks have been split between the home and the family. So maybe the official statistic on longevity in Japan is wrong? After all, when they went to acknowledge the oldest person in Japan not too long ago, they found out that the person died 50 years ago and the family just kept the mummified body so they would keep getting the monthly checks.

Why should the Japanese government support anime and manga..... Well, the anime Sailor Moon in 1995 was translated into 65 languages and made over $5 billion. So I would think that the government of Japan would be supportive of they most successful cultural export.

The deficit isn't the problem but if the US defaults, interest rates in the US should go up by 3% since bonds will go from AAA to AA. Russia, China, and Saudi Arabia wants to remove the US Dollar as the reserve currency, this will make their case much stronger and could make it happen sooner. So oil will no longer be price in dollars. Makes oil more expense in the US. Most likely, stock markets around the world will tank. The dollar will fall in the short term. It will make the problems in Europe worse. Unemployment in the US will jump to 25-33% from 9%. And the world will be plunged into a great depression. Of course, some or all of this may happen anyway. After all, humanity peaked with the moon landings. The antibiotics created in the 1950's and 60's are getting less and less potent; help the use of antibiotics to treat animals. You think society is bad now, just wait. We are entering the new dark ages. BTW, Japan's deficit is much higher than the US or Ireland.

I hope they know what they are doing since the gas is 10x more powerful than hydrocarbon as it relates to global warming. There is now even a theory that a extinction event was related to warming that eventually released the frozen methane from the oceans. That warming even was so fast that it killed 90% of all life in the sea and land since plants and animals could not adapt fast enough to the rising temperatures. Not that I'm say this will cause such an event. Just that we seem to want energy so much that we may be accelerating our own demise. Funny how that works.

It doesn't matter what country you are in. We are in a time of rising conservatism to the point where it is turn fascist similar to the late 1920's to early 1930/s. This trend to grow and get more ugly. Remember the debate in japan's conservatists regarding having an Empress a few years ago. Even Russia is closer to a fascist country than a communist country. The fascists and nazis picked the jews as a target in the early 1930s and today it is Islam. Funny how religion seems to come into play. The difference is that jews weren't bombing people around the world back then but today the excuses for hate have a slightly higher barrier. To see how low a country is dropping, just look at how they treat their poor, elderly, and infirm.

Some how I not sure about that 10m determination. The 1958 Alaskan quake caused a landside that in turn caused a 520m tsunami. Are they going to build a 530m wall, taller than the Empire State building in New York? Can an earthquake cause a landside in Japan. The odds say yes. And why is that there has been 16 incidents at this plant and 15 or them since 2000 with the newer units.
