I don't get it. Priority Seats = no cell phone use. Two men using cell phone in priority seats. Argument which resulted in delays affecting thousands. No arrest. Why have signs regarding priority seats? Police call but no result by any standard. This is just stupid. I blame the JR and the police. All the people should get fare refunds.

I don't think she would have much trouble in the US. I also think she is thinking about her son and probably believes that he would have an easier time growing up in the US. Since the US grandparents want them, there should be no issue. I would expect no issues getting the bill pass Congress. I sure that is what the Sgt. Ferschke would have wanted.

You don't have to drink alot to die from alcohol poisoning. It depends more on proof and how fast it is drunk. Mix drinks with 151 rum which tastes more like a sweet punch to do alot of damage quickly. Body weight also counts so girls are more susceptible. I remember do dorm parties where several girls had to be taken to the hospital for alcohol poisoning every new school year and they weren't underaged just inexperienced. Alcohol is a depressent and will depress body functions including breathing to the point that you stop. Wonder if she was drinking new alcohol energy drinks which may be even more dangerous. They keep you up and drinking when you should have passed out until you suddenly do.

I would think is should be a major concern if kids can't do math and 2nd year college students don't understand calculus. Maybe Toyota problems can be traced back to new workers. If you expect a certain level or proficiency and that gone, quality control is gone.

Eco Terroists, that is funny. The Whaling vessels were at fault. Sea Shepards tactics isn't anything new. The Captain of the Whaler should have de-escalated but he brought on an international incident. It will be interesting to see Aussies actions after this. There is great sentiment against Japan for this kind of underhanded whaling.

The question is did the gate lift. I've seen it where a express train passed by and the gate started to lift. The train at the station started to move and the gate came down. But if you were a kid, you would think it was ok since the gate started to lift. 6 and 7 is old enough to be out on their own. That's a kid in first/second/third grade. I lived by a crossing when I was a kid and my friends and I played there all the time even at 4. Although my dog didn't fair so well. You can't protect kids from themselves and even if you teach all the rules, accidents happen.

I wonder why Japan never got much support from the international community about NK abductions. Now we know why. As for the olympics, Brazil is probably the favorited followed by Chicago. France won't get it because of London and Japan won't get it because of Beijing. As for this guy, he needed to plan better. Get the right people and it's no problem and its done all the time when dealing with other pariah countries.

I thought Japan was a polite society? What happened to look before you leap? Or, maybe it would have been considered rude for him to say,"doitte, doitte, doitte..." Sorry...
Unlike the old days, you don't think of others when you kill yourself today. But then why does the police consider this an accident or suicide and not consider homocide or attempted-murder suicide?

Ithaca, the home of Cornell, but somehow I don't see a relationship here. The townie were never consider to bright. Anyway, it does not matter if something is public or private; you NEED PERMISSION. Try filming on the boarder of China and North Korea and see what happens. Class A war criminal....try googling it. Or how about looking it up in Wiki. Try Kempeitai or Warfen SS since they are consider similar. Just to let you know Japanese War Criminals are not consider criminals in Japan.

Right wing, left wing, all extremists are just nuts. Seem nowadays, there are coocs to the right of me, nuts to the left of me, crazies to back of me, madmen to the front of me, surrounded by idiots in a world run by the insane. In the case of Japan since politics is an family occupation handed from father to son, it must be genetic. I guess the "big one" must be coming to clean some this mess. By the "big one", I mean the super volcano that is just off of Kyshu.

You forget that in Japan, order matters. The 16 year old "younger sister" can be a twin sister (identical or fraternal) who was born after the first. Japan has a heirarchically social system base on age, gender, etc. Her "attitude" seems to have been justified. If this was punishment for her "attitude", seems more like torture to me.

Man, trains don't have drivers. They have engineers. Must be a small train to have only one conductor. Seems both the engineer and the conductor need a refresher. Maybe the lesson here is let sleep drunks lie.

There is the culture and then there is the subculture. What you are ascribing to the Otaku can be asociated to the average Japanese Business Man. After all Japan is way past "inflatable" but those "friends" cost in the order of $6-7K. The average Otaku may wish for these friends but hardly likely to afford one.
The Otaku in have always gotten a bad rap in Japan more than any place else simply because in Japan;"if a nail stand up, bash it down with a hammer" social convention. A social revolution is different from a technology revolution and more akin to the French Revolution or soviet marxist revolution. Neither had positive social results and you mostly see "average" Japanese in the crime column than an Otaku. So what does a non interactive, non active social revolution bring forth? And it is a multibillion dollar worldwide enterprise that has evolved out of that social revolution. Anyway I think you have a narrower impression that what is out there since cosplay and street performances are part of this subculture.

Not impressed. What good is a plane that you can't fly without the aid of computers. Too hight tech! Fighter need to be more low tech and survivalable when landing on other then an air field, like a field. I have always thought the low tech approach of the Soviets were better especially if can mix it US high tech munitions.

Otaku and Nerds never get any respect even when what they are interested in a multi-billion dollar industry. Otaku-ism is a chief export from Japan to the rest of the world. As an example, Anime Expo during the 4th of July weekend in LA will take up the whole LA Convention Center from July 2nd through the 5th. There are smaller convention in every US State, Canada, UK, Germany, France, etc. It's also a huge illegal industry especially in China. Illegal in the sense that they don't respect intellectual property rights. 50 years ago the nerds created the information revolution. The last 20 years has seen the invasion of the Otaku, not sure what this will evolve into as yet. But the Otaku subculture of Japan has been influencing the college age generation of the world for the last 20 years or so. There has got to be an effect especially when almost every college has an Anime Club. It not just a Japanese subculture anymore.

1)cut or make a way through; "the knife cut through the flesh"; "The path pierced the jungle"; "Light pierced through the forest" 2) move or affect (a person's emotions or bodily feelings) deeply or sharply; "The cold pierced her bones"; "Her words pierced the students" 3) sound sharply or shrilly; "The scream pierced the night" 4) penetrate or cut through with a sharp instrument 5) make a hole into; "The needle pierced her flesh" 6) 14th President of the United States (1804-1869) wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn
Most people would think of ear piercing if you have the words mother, girl, and piercing. Besides the story doesn't correctly describe the injury to the girl. Did the pin pierce the back of the head like one would pierce the nose for a nose ring? It also most be been larger than a pin for a teacher to notice. Was the piercing done by a knitting needle. Too much is left for the imagination. The writer gets a F since the article is too ambiguous. Armor piercing means to penetrate or pass through armor. Maybe she was doing some body piercing, body art?

ANOTSUAGAMI, If someone wanted to know what it felt like to be discriminated against, he just has to live in Japan for a year. What I also found interesting is that the Japanese don't feel that they discriminate. Eventhough, a Japanese student who studied outside of Japan would be considered tainted and not really Japanese anymore. Don't forget the saying to paraphase,"if a nail stands up, hammer it down".

If any president can be considered close to a dictator or Nazi Germany, it's Cheney; ... Bush. Think Patriot Act, the must unpatriotic legistraton in many many years. To paraphrase Franklin, if you give up freedom for security, you're end up with neither.

I don't know if I would call HSBC a British bank. Granted that HQ moved to London in 1999/99 but most people still consider it Chinese or Scottish Chinese since it was founded in Hong Kong in 1865. I think the letters stand for HongKong Shanghai Banking Corporation. It is the world's biggest bank. It is also in the black unlike most banks today. It's the bow tie bank, at least I think it's symbol looks like a bow tie.

The quality and standards for EMS is always dependent on where you are. I had be involved with EMS for some 20 years in NY where they use volunteers to supplement the services. Basically, outside of the major cities Fire Service and EMS is run by trained volunteers. Saying that, all ambulance drives are at least EMT I and those in charge are EMT III or EMT IV. In a major incident, a cop or fireman to do the driving. In Japan or China, I don't have much respect for their EMS system. They seem like they are 40 years behind the times. The time response should be 4 min as goal. If someone stops breathing, after 4 min., it's too late except for a child under hypothermia. Therefore, everyone should know CPR. I am supprise that they didn't start an IV regardless since they thought she was hit by a truck. Shock and internal bleeding would seem very likely. I think they need more training.
