Yeah, this "the gaijin made me do it" thing is entirely out of hand. The fact that the average Japanese buys into it is all the more disturbing. Have you ever once heard somebody use the "the Yakuza sold it to me" excuse??? No, right?

Onibaku, You've misquoted me. I di dnot say this. I'm on about the "inferior people" angle.

onibaku at 03:16 PM JST - 2nd August

I am not sure if Japanese are superior or disparate to other people in anything because of the way their brains process sound information from outside. But I remember being surprised to hear a comment by an American who said that the chirring of cicadas in this season is just noisy. I have never heard a Japanese make such a comment.

@kanadamanada: Hmm... could you develop a bit please? I mean, what you wrote doesn't mean much to me. First, comparing the opinion of a single American with the opinion of thousands of Japanese is irrelevant. Second point, Japanese people have lived generations with "noisy" semis. To compare with Europe for example, cicadas are not as numerous and noisy as here. Finally, if I may correct you, Japanese people themselves have been commenting about the semis' "noise". One of Basho's most famous haiku reads something like this (I'm not sure anymore so feel free to correct me):

閑かさや岩にしみ入蝉の声 (in the quietude, piercing/penetrating the rocks, the cry of a semi)

I mean, you can always say that I'm misinterpreting the haiku, but "penetrating the rocks" clearly means that he considered this sound as terribly "noisy". >

I'm sure his book contains an extensive list of all the great Japanese inventions such as the..... the.......... the.............. oh yeah, the handheld kerosene pump and the 1st floppy disc. Those Japanese sure are superior. Literally everything else they have made has been to some degree reverse engineered.

A "shame" to disfigure the kimono - oh God forbid! However, the fact remains that it is perfectly acceptable that the manager of Miss Universe Japan has told all her girls "If you want to win, you need implants, tans, and perfect teeth."

So, where is the moral outrage at this disfiguring of Japanese women?

1 in 4 South Arican men admit to having raped somebody in their lives. You don't believe that? You ought to google "South Africa rape statistics". He was lucky to have done this in South Africa where, with the appropriate ブライブ, a man can do almost anything he pleases with a woman. Dirty scumbag. It's just another example of a man with little to no pull getting angry at some hot young thing who has the audacity to repel his advances. Was the girl Japanese? There is nothing in the S.A. media aout this. Not that they'd care much, anyway.

Cleo, Saying that the animals would have been better to have never been born than to have lived in a cage smacks of hypocrasy. You are a dog owner. You own an animal that was bred for the enjoyment and captivity of humans. You, for all intents and purposes kee it in a cage (house, dog crate) and take it out when it suits you. It was only ever bred to be purchased by you or someone else - just as the mink that went into that coat were bred for that coat.

Mercedes Japan knows a good thing when they see it and a has-been leggy, busty actress in a FENDI fur will get shoes in the showroom. ディス イズ ジャパン, afterall.

SMITHINJAPAN, Allow me to take a nice big dump of logic here. Without the fur industry, the animals whose lives you value so would never have come into being. Most of the world's highest quality fur is farmed for quality control. No fur coats = no furry little mink. So ask yourself, is it better that the mink had never be born at all, even if to live in a cage, or is it better that the fur industry at least created the life in the first place?

Leather is just fur without the hair. What's the moral outrage? Leather is good. It's strong and looks great, provided you're not already too frumpy to be fashionable.

My 1st apartment here in Sapporo was with "Mstsui Biru" who said "gaijin dame" in our initial meeting. Well, the apartment got rented in my ex-girlfriend's name with the full understanding of the company that I would live there. They said it was fine, as long as she provided 2 guarantors and I paid 50,000 a year to one of these "professional" guarantor companies. I wondered to myself who would actually end up paying if I'd defaulted and was certain that it could be challenged in court. They gouge you any way they can.

I don't feel bad for some of the landlords on here and any tales of woe. If you're not willing to deal with riffraff, don't get in the rental business.

"Pilot" episode? As in a production run has not been ordered yet? I've never heard of a Japanese drama series having a "pilot" episode. Yet more disasterous translating on JT?

Drinking and driving is rampant here in Hokkaido. It is no small coincidence that Hokkaido has the highest number of traffic fatalities of any prefecture, and that with so few people is nothing to be proud of. Hicksville!
