Ramming another ship amounts to piracy. Good that their tapes were siezed. I'm cancelling my Discovery Channel. I'm not giving money to a network which is sponsoring piracy.

I'm thinking that the police are going to have something to add to this story in the coming days/weeks. I'm not buying the "I didn't know she'd died" angle. She delivered, then wrapped the baby up in towels, yet didn't think to alert her husband?
OH COME ON!

"Panasonic is an old-style Japanese comany where loyalty to the company is deeply rooted among its ranks."
No, apparently it isn't, or this article would never have been written. I say let 'em sink. Employers PAY employess' salaries. Employees are not responsible for sinking their money back into the sinking ship.

Kenchan, I have email and a phone. I see no need for facebook in my life, whatsoever. The fact is that it is quite different from phone, email and forums in that it pretends to be linking "friends". As I mentioned before, my friends know how to contact me - the ones who don't are not my friends.

Err, you mean "whiteboards"? Gotta love outdated English-Japanese dictionaries based on 1970s terminology. I'll take one for my secret bunker, Cap'n!

"The Japanese government should expand the horizons of the U.S.-Japan relationship focusing on citizen-level public diplomacy, which enjoys a very broad base in Japan."
Oh really? You mean how they are so very accomodating to outsiders, here?

I'm not vain enough to think anyone who went to school with me in grade 6 wants to know how I'm doing now. My friends all know how to contact me. What does "friendship" mean if you have 356 "friends" on your facebook list?

Mandatory IOC-style drug testing by a 3rd, independent party and mandatory punishments instead of the seemingly arbitrary way they have of doing it now. A creative prosecutor could go after the JSA now for not owning up to the fact that their guy failed 2 drug tests in September until now. That, my friends is aiding and abetting criminal. The JSA is a joke of a "sports" association.

This story reminds me of when I first moved to Japan and the group of Japanese "aid workers" got themselves abducted on '04. The world got an 8 minute video of the hostages. NHK broadcast a heavily censored version which had the abductees statements of "No Koizumi. NO!" removed. The Japanese broadcast version was less than 1 minute. It was not until after the hostages had been freed that the full-length video was broadcast. Nobody asked why it was ok for the government to censor the video, which was widely viewed outside Japan on television. And you think you're free...

Jackdorff makes a good point about the manners of the elderly. They push in line for the trains, they never apologize when they bump into people, they ride their bicycles on the wrong side of the road, and they cross the street anytime they please, signals and traffic be damned.
