THis attack happened about 10 minutes from my house. The snack was really in a residential area, not the downtown area. Neighborhood gossip says the guy was jealous about her paying attention to some other customer. He had also supposedly given her a large amount of money. Like I said, just neighborhood gossip, but the local obachans seems to know what's happening better than the police.

George Palmer The spot is called Tojinbo. It's in Fukui. Pretty well-known jumper spot here in Hokuriku.

This is a disappointment. The "Egypt-for-All" organization had been working to bring together Copts and Muslims. Many Muslims went so far as to offer themselves as human shields around Coptic churches during the celebration of Coptic Christmas in January. This was done as a sign of solidarity with the Copts after an attack on New Year's Eve on a church in Alexandria. Sad and worrying.

For an excellent in-depth coverage of Ishii, Unit 731 and other aspects of human experiments done by the Japanese during the war, you should read "Factories of Death" by Sheldon Harris.

Great director. I still think his greatest directorial achievement was to get Julie Andrews to go topless in SOB. Wonderfully shocking and a major image change for her.

Dewaashita Thanks for looking at Ponheary's site. I have never met a more giving, positive and determined person in my life. After all that she has experienced in her life, she still see the best in people. Probably a reflection of herself in others. If you ever plan to go to Siem Reip, get her for your guide. You'll have the best time and end feeling like one of the family.

Nessie, Great posts as always. For a good read, check out "Trick or Treatment" by Simon Singh and Edzard Ernst. Lots of very good information about different alternative treatments. Ernst is the first professor of Complementary Medicine in the UK.

Here's an interesting article about the systematic rape of children by priests of Natives in Alaska and Canada and the coverup. The best part is by the former priest who was usually the lead in covering up the rapes. http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/the-pedophiles-paradise/Content?oid=1065017

steen, Don't know if you are being serious about the ugly strings, but here goes. They're called yukizuri and they are used to protect the trees from the heavy snow that we get here in Ishikawa. They stop the branches from breaking. Kenrokuen is famous for its yukizuri. Luckily we got some good snow yesterday and it was a great evening for the light up.

The Shroud was judged to be a fraud in the 14th century by a Roman Catholic bishop, who stated that the shroud was painting. The image was not allowed to be displayed for over 40 years. For anyone interested in reading a little more about this, you should check out "Relics of the Christ" by Joe Nickell.

Willi, The only silhouette I found was the one where they stopped the parking gate film right before the object hit the building to show that a 757 could fit into the blurred shape on the film. True, the website is mostly crap, that's why I was surprised that I found the report there.

hellokitty, I'm not a big fan of the following website, but the writer does a good job explaining the facts of the Pentagon attack. Give it a read. He does a very good job explaining about the size of the impact hole in the wall of the Pentagon. http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread79655/pg1

The pool is very cool, but when looking up through the "water", if the glass on top has not been cleaned that day, which is usually the case, the effect is really diminished.

skip,
The 2007 Pew Research survey puts the percentage of atheists/unaffiliated at 12%. Personally, I believe that religion has absolutely no place in US politics. If the Founding Fathers saw the way these people pander to religion they would probably be ashamed of the country they started. wolfpack, please read Susan Jacoby's book Freethinkers to get an idea about how much of a role non-theists played in the civil rights movement.
