Like a previous post mentioned the Navy should use it for target practice since the owner does not want it. Compared to what BP put in the gulf oil wise a few hundred gallons of fuel is nothing. It would make an excellent 50 cal. training target. The US needs to be prepared on how to handle a lot more debris coming in the future. I hope not to see a lot of trouble from the US, they need to just clean it up and if something of importance is salvageable try and get it back to the owner if they want it.

@smithinjapan - The additional two are the Captain and Engineer who are staying on the disabled ferry trying to keep it from going adrift. Per the article it appears that no one was hurt and the ferry was only carrying crew and all were rescued and the J Coast Guard is monitoring the disabled boat.

Very sad and I hope he survives. I was a little shocked at the age of 19 for a police officer. I had been curious what is the requirements for law enforcement in Japan. I know in the US it is almost standard to be a college graduate in law or criminal justice plus police academy training. The age of 19 seems very young for such a physical and emotional type job.

Kid made a bad choice and hurt himself and then covered it up with a lie. I am sure that most of us have been in similar kinds of situations growing up. Hopefully it will be chalked up to a lesson learned and he move forward and become a good kid/student. No harm no foul.

I was on the 36th floor of Roppongi Hills building at work. When it first started I thought it was just another quake and then it got stronger and everyone started to get up. The boss from Hong Kong came out of his office and told us "sit as their was nothing we can do, if where going to die where going to die". It was a very strange expression at the time but we all sat and waited for the swaying to stop. What I remember the most was not the swaying but the sound of steel and the glass of the building it was very surreal and have never heard or want to hear that again.

I read this and remembered the old Pee Wee Herman skit with the mirror on his shoe (Like the first person on this thread mentioned). It is strange that a person would stoop to such a level for a look at a young women's pants. Sick? Bored? Frustrated? Very strange but I'm sure a Japan Today reader has a theory.

The child had to have been in great pain every-time the Mom put the drops in (Neighbors hearing the screams of pain). I being a parent like all others would have questioned the medicine knowing from when are children are babies the difference between I don't like it, to agony in their cries and checked it. Very odd and I hope the investigators find the whole truth and also put away this monster who caused so much pain to a child.

Very sad, I can not believe this happened in Japan. I hope all involved get long sentences and do hard time. My prayers are with Bishnu Prasad Dhamala family and friends.

I've only seen a few layers during my time here, it's the ones that are standing and swaying from side to side that bother me. The one's that vomit on the train are the worst. It's a cute sign but was probably a waste of money for the train system. Happy Holidays everyone.

The train system in Tokyo make a tremendous amount of money and should start building the walls with gates that open once the train has stopped. They have them in a lot of subways and train stations in Tokyo. As for pressing the button I would do that first and if I can not see a train coming I would jump down to pull them under the platform or in the middle and hang low.

I agree being a former Government employee in Japan 20 years ago. If they break the law off base they must be tried thru the Japanese system. It seems to have been an accident but their was a death involved and if he was in the wrong he needs to face the consequences. This should not only apply to the local hires (AAFES, NAF and others that are hired locally but to all SOFA based residents) . The US military presence has outworn it's welcome and needs to follow all laws of Japan when laws are broken off base.

Please Google's Cain's response to the question about Obama's dealing with the Libya campaign. Cain is only known for the executive that said to put the meat under the cheese on the Godfather's pizzas. By the way I have not seen a Godfathers pizza in 20 years on the East coat of America. Basically he started strong but proved to be ignorant in real world problems/ situations. He will not make the nomination .....

It would be good to give us more selection of products. My worry is that if Japan does accept they will find ways to block many items to protect their domestic market (Fruits, Produce and Energy drinks like Monster and others).

Watching same celebrities over and over does get boring. I find that my family also does not watch TV like we used too. I was expecting more interesting channels to come on after the digital switch. They added a few channels where they sell face cream and a few other useless shows. I know in America traditional TV watching is dying quickly. People want to be have service were they can stream and pick exactly what they want to watch.

I stay on the road when it is safe and do not worry about cars as much as the mopeds zipping in and out of traffic on either side. When I do use the sidewalk I stay vigilant and ride and pass slowly when it is safe. Everyone says to build bicycle lanes, in reality most of the roads in Japan are not even big enough for cars to drive safely.

I know that AKB 48 is the brain child of a famous producer, but this is a very creepy idea. Is this the reality that the only way to make money off of these singers is to use perversion? Will they target the younger version of AKB48 next (sorry I do not know the name of them). Too creepy. I have seen a lot of hard core 30 + year old male fans that follow this group. They are a strange bunch of men that still live at home and have not successfully made it into a society and live with their parents.

As always zichi brought good info along with a new comer to me, Jeff Laitila. Please bring us in Japan realistic information. This seems to be a new guy that was volunteered to drink 350 - 500 ml of decontaminated water from the plant. It is my understanding that this type of poisoning could take many years to conclude if their is any affect. I hope that things get better but with weekly news that new hot spots are found in Tokyo and surrounding neighbors it is difficult.
