I LOVE nabe! I particularly love the lack of washing up that follows a good nabe dinner...

Ive been in Japan 7 years and have heard of/experienced 4 outbreaks of norovirus in my community or among my friends. I wouldnt describe it as rare here, not at all.

My God! She has a one month old and yet she was so drunk she was egging her husband on to kill her??!

Im just surprised because I have a one month old and could never get that drunk because the little tyke needs constant attention! I dont know whether to be disgusted by her or in awe of her stamina!

One things for sure, these poor kids don`t seem to have the best role models as parents.

Great. Peoples deep issues will be wheeled out for entertainment. That`ll help encourage the people really suffering to get help.

Oh God, I need to stop threatening the kids with calling the police when they fight/won`t eat their dinner/are rude to me.

It seems I am creating 3 of these monsters!

Depends whether you consider "employed" to be waving a light stick outside a shopping centre car park.

Why wasn`t this guy taken out of circulation long ago? At least he has been named, although I am not sure if he will have been shamed, knowing this society.

The "Mother" - words fail me.

As a mother, it makes my blood run cold that people like this are around, and I mean anywhere, not just Japan.

I like the pants-uniform idea too, not just to prevent the upskirt issue, but just for practical reasons too.

OK - so to make sure I don`t inadvertently offend anyone in the future, let me just make sure we have all got this straight:

Everyone in Japan has expensive KFC for Christmas. Except in Okinawa where they have chubby chicken - some of them anyway, and the Americans who only have Turkey for thanksigiving and something else entirely for Christmas not limited to KFC and including the New Sanno turkey-fest (sounds delicious by the way) and sometimes dabble in ham (sounds dodgy to me) while the Brits still go for the Turkey in place of the deep fried lard unless they like deep fried lard or cant get a turkey in the toaster (not a metaphor by the way) and Aussies sometimes have BBQs but sometimes dont and if they dont they have cold salad or sometimes roast turkey and all the trimmings and no-one puts strawberries with their KFC bucket.

    Do I have it right???!

Thirty-eight countries, (eight more than its membership of 30 nations) are now subscribing to the OECD rules which prohibit the bribery of public officials, among them ... Japan, .....

Obviously having a great effect then, these rules, if Chiba is anything to go by

I was at a Rugby Club in CapeTown watching it on a huge cinema-TV screen. After that we hit Bree Street in central CapeTown - along with what turned out to be several thousand of our closest friends! There was a song at that time that many of the ethnic Africans were singing called "shosholosa" - it was a beautiful harmonious tune sung the way only Africans can. Everyone learned it and I remember at one point standing in the street with everyone holding hands and singing our hearts out.

That whole tournament was incredible. Rob Andrews drop kick against the Aussies in the closing seconds that put England into the semi`s was just incredible. But I STILL have the front page of the Cape Times from the day after the SA NZ final.

I was incredibly lucky to be there. Unfortunately, I have heard things went sour again for a while after that time in South Africa, but I will never forget the pride and hope in peoples faces. I really hope the 2010 soccer world cup turns out to be as successful - but I hear there is a lot of unrest in the country right now regarding the amount of money being spent when poverty levels are still high.

How long has she been "going to language school" (I think the article was about 2 months ago) and all she can say is two words???!

Lucky she has a good body then!

I was in Cape Town that day. It was one of the most incredible memories of my life (so far!). Blacks and whites crying and hugging in the street. Drinking together. Partying together. We were all South African that day.

I can`t wait to see this movie to see if it really managed to capture the spirit of that time.

    Nkosi Sikelele Afrika!

@kyokosmile - if you set up a website or give him your email address, you only have to contact him once. Then he can contact you himself and no-one can do anything about it.

@flatearther - I looked into pre-nups once for this very reason. I was told by my embassy and a lawyer that they are not worth the paper they are written on here.

But I would say that remember we only hear on here the very sad stories that happen. I believe 30-40% of international Japanese marriages end in divorce. That means 60-70% don`t.

I don`t know what the answer is - there never are any 100% guarantees - but in my experience I would recommend getting to know the family really well first and guaging their reaction to you, and definitely living together first - and guaging family and friends reaction to that too, as well as your future spouses daily behaviour when they have had a rough day at work, stress etc. Talk through what marriage and family means to you both. If you live together for a period of time, you will know if you are being told the truth or just what they think you want to hear.

I know this still doesnt guarantee anything, and my heart goes out to anyone separated from their child, international or both Japanese, like this family. I dont know how I could go on if my children were taken from me. But I echo what others are saying - bide your time. Dont do anything to draw attention to yourself. Your time will come. Your child wont always be a baby. He/she will want to know who their mother/father is. That is only natural. In Kyokosmiles case, he is hopefully already aware that he is "haafu" - it wont be long before he is able to put two and two together. Be ready to start contact so that he knows when they tell him you died/ran away/etc that it is not the truth.
