@Brantastik - I agree with everything you say and I feel the same.
Except one little thing - I wouldn`t describe 60-100k as a "very small price" an I have to wonder (pardon the pun) who was taking who for a ride here...

I
ve been quietly wondering to myself if Ichihashis parents are going to try and offer the Hawkers money to reduce the severity of the sentence.Going by what they seemed to be saying on the news last night it seems less likely now ("he should take his punishment under the law for what he did") but I hope that someone makes them aware that if they even try going down that route, in our culture it would be seen as incredibly insensitive and insulting.

I second Dolphingirl with caps on WOOHOOO!!!
To Lindsay - may you now rest in peace, never forgotten.
To Lindsay`s family and friends - I am SOOOO happy for you. This will not being Lindsay back, but maybe help to give you some of the closure you need.
And to all the posters here on JT - WISH I could join you all for one big celebration of this news, but as zoechan rightly pointed out, a lovely girl has gone. I will be having a (very small, very weak! 38 weeks pregnant!) glass of wine here in front of the PC and thinking of Lindsay and her family- please join me!

I have to say though - nice to see the Japanese snickered at for a change! We were snickered at just yesterday by our very good friends - the reason? I had the nerve to take over the "mans role" by phoning autobacs myself to ask the cost and procedure for installing a navi system into the car. Shame on me!

My friend was a tour escort and is full of stories just like these and far worse.
She took a group to the middle east desert once for a rustic tour where they complained the towels weren`t fluffy enough!
Another time in Hungary she went around the group in a restaurant asking if they wanted "the chicken or the fish" for their traditional Hungarian dinner and they all said "no, just hot water please" - she delivered 20 rounds of hot water, only to find they had all brought instant miso soup with them! She said it is always the well-off, newly retired Japanese who cause all the problems.

Right with you Foxie. And this one doesn`t even seem to be ashamed of the fact that she is marrying this guy for "status". Hope he makes up a pre-nup.

@tkoind2 - thanks for the advice. I think I am also biased because of the experiences I had as a kid doing fairly high level gymnastics. The cliquiness was unbearable. My 3 year old was about to enroll in a soccer club which seemed pretty reasonable until they told me we had to pay 20,000 for his "uniform" - he

My daughter loves ice-skating and seems to show some talent for it too - but the BS that seems to go with most high level sport in Japan seriously puts me off encouraging my kids to develop their talents. Our local elementary school baseball team looks like a cult! All shaved heads and 6.30am practice sessions, spacey eyes and nudging and pointing at my 3 year old when we walked past them. For what possible reason???! He is 3 years old for Gods sake! They looked like they wanted to sacrifice him or something!

@dbung10 - this is what confuses the hell out of me. So many people say that when they call someone up on something like this the victim either doesn
t support them, is hostile, doesnt even say thank you!Do you (or anyone for that matter?!) have any idea WHY??? these women behave like this? Having had it happen to me, and knowing how terrifying it was, I would have been eternally grateful so I just can`t for the life of me understand why women behave this way.
