I have done this! It is actually really fun but incredibly hard to do - you really need to be fit and have a very high power:weight ratio to do it properly. I have a lot of respect for what these women (and men!) can do on the pole.

@DerekJ - I think Anthony39 posted that information for my benefit actually - I was asking for clarification on the law regarding possession and opposed to creation/sale of child pornography.
@Anthony39 - thanks for that info. I understand better now (although still shocked!)
I think you have hit the nail on the head here. It is NOT about sex or attraction, it is about power. Having power and control over your victim. Thinking back to the guy who went for me, I thought maybe he just couldn
t tell I was pregnant. But thinking about it, there was no way he could not have been able to tell - Im 10 months! It was a bit obvious! I am not exactly small this time around! It was purely a power thing - he thought he could get away with it because, being so heavily pregnant, I was vulnerable and couldnt fight back. Unfortunately, he was right. I was terrified, in a way only someone who has ever been heavily pregnant and felt that sense of vulnerability can understand. I was so scared he was going to hurt me or the baby. All I could do was move away from him and hope he didnt turn nasty. I think two guys sitting the other side of him told him to leave me alone but I cant be sure, I didnt hear what they said.Believe me, in my "normal" state he would never have gotten away with it!

Hey Cleo,
Yes, of course he did. And by and large I have been a good girl. By and large! I have also been warned off heels, bicycles, belts, Roppongi, driving, sun, pools, overeating, coffee, and instructed by every obaasan on the street that I should be wearing a "Haramaki". But I just have this terrible rebellious streak. It has always been my downfall!
But a party is a party! Maybe I can bring my own Appletize and drink it from the commemorative wine glass? They even do red or white versions!
Thanks for the good luck! Can`t believe I am doing this a third time! In the words of another slightly waacko individual "This Is It!"
BTW - have a FAB Halloween costume this year - I am painting a jack o lantern on my belly with face paint! This should scare the natives!!!

I would love to go to this but will be 39 weeks pregnant :( ! Maybe if he comes early I can go? Or maybe it would actually be a great way to get him out???! Watch out for a massive gaijin lady staggering around - and not just because of the unbalanced belly and the heels I refuse to give up!

Yay! Go Auntplum! I couldn`t be bothered to argue any more!
Images of child rape are not illegal here? Wow! I thought possession of child porn had recently become illegal, and this covers these images, but I think I might be mistaking possession and creation or sale. Can anyone clarify?

Clearly in this case it depends on the pictures content, not the quality. I would equally like to see the police go after anyone who bought these pictures, if anyone. It`s not clear if it got that far.
@lutfreak - I was under the impression that pornography IS legal? If it isn`t, then every combini in Japan is about to be raided! What we are talking about here is kiddie-porn. I am not going to start a big debate on where the line gets drawn between kiddie and normal porn but anyone in their right mind must agree that 6 years old is totally different to 26 years old and a willing, knowing, money-receiving participant.

I wish I could counter some of these posts and this article. In fact, I hnave been sitting here racking my brains to think of some examples. But all that keeps popping into my head is the face of a woman in my building this morning who went out the back door just ahead of us, and knowing full well we were right behind her just let it swing straight back on us, smacking into my 3 year old and knocking him flying, and then slamming into my huge pregnant belly.
I opened the door and screamed at her and she turned, looked at me, and just kept going. And this is someone who lives in my building!!! And everyone then stared at me like I was the crazy one!
I KNOW there are good, considerate Japanese out there. I KNOW that there is good and bad in every society. But if people here in particular could just look behind them before flinging doors shut, and not queue-jump just assuming I don
t speak Japanese so Im not going to say anything my blood pressure would be a lot lower! And it`s always the obaasan! Anyone ever noticed that??!
@ Betting - everything you said is absolutely true! When I tell Japanese some of my stories, every single one of them says "I wouldn`t do that" or "I would have helped"....and yet strangely, whenever these things happen, this almost never proves to be the case!
As you said - we British people KNOW we are crap! We are fully prepared to admit it! We are appalling at times! I am ashamed whenever I go home these days! But the Japanese seem to be in a state of denial. My own husband told me the other day I was "paranoid" about everyone staring at me rudely and pointing and laughing because I am so pregnant now....until a guy riding past us on a bicycle craned his neck 180 degrees to gawp at me, wobbled, and crashed into the barrier right in front of him! (It was priceless actually!) And only THEN was he "Oh, OK, I see your point!"
I wonder really if maybe it is simply a cultural thing and I really should try to be more accepting of cultural differences. That maybe what we would consider rude the Japanese don
t? But then, when I tell Japanese what I have seen/heard/experienced they all think it is rude too, so I guess it cant be purely a cultural thing.Posted in: Self-centered zombies running rampant through Japanese society

Oh, sorry! Did I make a grave sexually provocative mistake with my maternity clothes??!!! The problem here is NOT the way women dress!
You mean the one I already mentioned is only open a couple of hours a day?
You clearly have no idea!

Again - for the last time - a pervert is a pervert is a pervert. It is NEVER acceptable to attack/touch/intimidate/grope/photograph or in any other way invade an individuals private space. I just can`t believe there are people out there who seem to think it is nothing to get worked up over. Come back to me after it has happened to you and let me know how you feel.

Does that advice also apply to the victims of this? Your daughter? Your wife? Your sister? Have you ever been a victim? Do you understand how unbelievably scary it is to have it happen to you? Have you ever looked around a carriage desperate for help only to find everyone burying their noses in their manga pretending not to see what is going on in front of their eyes? Have you ever stood there or sat there and wondered what you can do, if anything, as you have your 3 year old little girl with you and what would happen to her if you tried to defend yourself and the perpetrator turned nasty?
You are right that people often use this kind of topic to justify their dislike of Japan. Personally, I find your disdain for the victims far more shocking.

As quoted in the article: "anti-chikan (pervert) campaign", as quoted in the headline "anti-pervert campaign". Sorry - to my mind this is absolutely about chikan.

Um - to everyone that is commenting on women who wear short skirts, I would just like to point out that I was chikan`ed on Saturday night and I was wearing knee length boots, a knee length skirt....and I am 10 months pregnant!!!
It was pretty terrifying actually. The guy sniffed at my legs like a dog! I had my handbag on my knee so I don`t think he noticed how pregnant I was.
Sometimes a perv is a perv is a perv - and it makes no difference what you are wearing, or it seems, even what you look like!

My 5 and 3 year old can open the doors themselves now and get out onto the balcony. Fortunately the wall is quite high so they can`t climb up over it, but I have taught them never to climb up, and never to go out on the balcony without me.
