I would have preferred Japan's other choice for the Olympics: Fukuoka. Tokyo has had the Olympics once already. But Tokyo is no worse than having them anywhere else in the world. At least it is safe to go out at night.

adaydream, I believe it is illegal to arm commercial ships. Or at least illegal for them to carry weapons into a port of a country that does not allow such weapons. What do you propose the shipping magnets and CEOs do (that is legal)? Many ships already grease the rails and put up barbed wire. Until laws are changed to allow armed merchant vessels, all that is left is navy-protected convoys and paying 'protection' money to the pirates in advance.

But how many times has the USA threatened to turn the Bahamas into smoldering ash? NK says this about Japan in its state-run media about twice a week. When a nuclear-armed country (however doubtful they could get a nuke to work on a missile) that is frequently spouting threats at you shoots a missile, satellite, or even a stuffed chicken over your head, you take heed.

True. But you did fail to mention that what Japan does not recognize is actually Australia's sovereignty claim to the Australian Antarctic Territory (AAT). The AAT is recognized by only four countries, namely, New Zealand, France, Norway and Great Britain. That antarctic part of Australia's exclusive economic zone and Australia's right to establish that as a wale sanctuary is therefore not recognized by most of the world.

Editing is exactly why the police need to take the raw tapes. Both sides only shows the parts that are convenient for telling their side of the story. I seriously doubt SS would ever release the entirety of their tape catalog to an impartial third party. It would be a good gesture if the Japanese waling fleet made public all of their unedited tapes, although SS tapes should be sufficient as they were actively recording all of their activities (even if those activities would never be viewed in their entirety by the public).

Actually, it may be. I have seen on the label of "non-alcohol" beer a notice of a very small amount, about 0.5% (in actuality, low-alcohol beer). Kirin claims 0.00%. Also, it is a "beer-taste drink" not beer without the alcohol. They may not be wrong if you go by the exact wording... maybe.
Russia's Baltica 0 non-alcohol actually tastes like beer.

It seems strange that he would be hunting duck with a rifle, not a shotgun. One would have to be a pretty good shot to hit a flying duck with a rifle. I assume the Japanese source did not specify which one, and JT just translated it as rifle out of ignorance. The only Japanese source I could find only said it was a 猟銃(hunting gun).

What she is recruiting for is local volunteer fire brigades消防団, not the actual municipal full-time fire brigades消防署. Every community has one and they back up the actual fire department, rarely rushing into a burning building. They also provide manpower for searches for missing old ladies and small children and help out at community festivals and other events. They have many duties that do not require a high level of physical strength, so women who are at home during the day can be an important source of manpower (womanpower?). Japan Today has again translated their news in a misleading way...
