Mean as it sounds, let that be another lesson to parents who let their young children out of their sight.
Last week, I was at a park with a big pond where four children under 5 were unaccompanied by an adult as they played too closely to the edge of the water. I was scared for them should one of them fall into the water. I looked around to see if their parents were around. None to be found. What makes young parents so negligent these days? Just plain stupidity on the part of these parents' parents not teaching them about safety first.

to NotJapanese, I believe the country you are referring to about locking people in a hotel for having the flu is Hong Kong (China) and not Japan.

whoever is at fault doesn't matter now as one person is dead. But there needs to be effective education on bicyle riding in Japan as many of them believe they own the road, never stopping at a red light or stop sign, riding without lights at night (not necessarily for the sake of being able to see at night but to identify that they are on the road), and texting while riding. The rules of road safety apply to both vehicles and bicycle riders. Each time you go and renew your drivers' license, you are forced to watch a video on road safety and they say how the rules apply to bicycle riders too.
I have seen quite a few head-on collisions in my part of Tokyo involving two bicyclists because one was going full-speed against the red light while the other was going full-speed with the right of way.
They believe the rules are only for motor vehicles and that they are exempt from traffic regulations.

Japan Today has definitely become a tits-and-ass rag -- and a free one at that. Just reflects the poor editorial policy of this so-called news source.

Yeah for Miki Ando who got the bronze, the first medal since two years ago when she won the World title. The Japanese media loves a darling like Asada, setting up a major showdown with her South Korean rival, and pushing aside Ando. With Ando off the radar of the Japanese media, it was good that she could skate a great program without the fanfare of the media, and off a few points from garnering the silver medal. Looking forward to next year in Vancouver.

Duh, she sounds so smart. I guess she squeezed her 88-centimeter bosom too much, that's where her brain is.
