I saw the clip. She did a pretty good job. She's tiny but she can pitch.

to quote another JT poster from a previous article

Ichiro is just like Vince Carter in the NBA. An incredibly gifted athlete who will never lead a team anywhere, because he's just too selfish. True stars make those around them better, will carry a team on their backs when necessary, and on some nights win games that they shouldn't through sheer force of will. These two clowns are obsessed with their own stats and fat contracts.

not to mention that on road trips Ichiro stays in a separate hotel than the team does. you know who else was pined for doing this.. A-Rod.

And sure Japan has won the last two WBCs but as history has shown being the team of the birth place of the sport doesn't guarantee the win.

Japan is a good example of how a few players can make a difference. Their Olympic squad was basically the same group minus Ichiro, Daisuke, Iwanori and Iwakuma to name a few. In the Olympics they failed to even make the medal rounds but with better pitching with the addition of Iwakuma and Matsuzaka their pitching was basically lights out. And with Ichiro in their Iwanori in their line up them that much more a formidable team.

I'm for a NPB vs MLB champions game. Have it here in Japan because of the market here. This would replace the NPB vs MlB allstar game they had here a few years ago which they stopped now. And it would replace the first few games of the season the MLB plays in Japan..

I'm with you Taka. Although, I wonder if a team were way out of the pennant race, would they allow their star player(s) to leave for the Olympics.

If they re-instate softball for the 2016 olympics the IOC needs to restructure the rules for the medal round games. It needs to be single elimination games just like soccer. 4 final teams and the winner from each bracket moves on and the losers play for bronze. The current softball medal round playoff favors the second ranked team because they can lose the semi final match and win in the bronze medal match and still come back in and go for gold. What about the 3rd ranked team if they lose? They're one and done. They also completely leave out the 4th rank team from the qualifying rounds. Its obvious this rule was made to combat US dominance in the sport but it actually didnt work until now.

First of all I tip my hat to Ueno and the Japan team for a well deserved win. The US had many chances to break this game open but were out pitched last night. Good pitching will always beat good hitting. It has been said that one of the reasons to omit softball from the Olympics is that the womens team is way too dominant for it's own good. They have won all the gold medals in softball since its Olympic induction until last night. The US has outscored opponents 108-3 over the last two Olympics. They have won the last six softball world championships and the last two softball world cups. Japan winning only helps the chances of the IOC reinstating softball for the 2016 summer Olympics.

Kitajima is a cheater like other breaststrokers who used a dolphin kick before the recent rules have allowed it (with certain restrictions) from the pull out of the start and turn. Hhhhmmm wonder why they changed the rules? And it was obvious he clearly cheated back in 2004 when these rules weren't in effect. http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/5714746/

According to Hansen he's had an off year but is up to the challenge to re-claim the world record. IMO the two drive each other but Kitajima owns him in the Olympics. Hansen had beaten him in the last few years in the worlds and pan am games (I think) while during the past few years breaking the world records that Kitajima had owned. So now it's Hansen's turn to see if he can overcome his funk and make a run at the world records.

Was Kitajima wearing the LZR swim suit? I think he was wearing it a few weeks ago when he broke the world record in the 200. On that note, I read that Hansen wants to re-claim the world record marks in the 100 and 200 before he retires.

Darvish almost had another shut out going... but gave up 2 runs in the 7th. With all the runners on base in the 7th he did well to limit the runs to 2.
