It's not a smartphone but a feature phone, maybe a dumbphone. All touchscreen phones are not smartphone. This one is not in the same category as the iPhone, HTC desire or Xperia 10.

The target is not the smae either.

I already wanted to do something like that. Taking pictures to show the goods but most of the shops forbid to take pictures, how do you do then?

Ogura Yuko was probably chosen because she is said to invest on foreign exchange market and it is said she's quite knowledgeable and good at it. That being said, I hate the way she talks (nosy voice) and what is worse is that she makes it on purpose, we can find some video on the net where she talks with her normal voice ...

I guess policemen (or lawmakers) don't want to do anything against stalkers because it seems japanese prison would get full very quick.

She might have waited that long for many reasons. One of them would be that she was not sure and she might just wanted to avoid accusing an innocent man who really touched her by accident. Also, by saying she's a "japanese girl" is not considering J women weak and all, but still, she's still a young woman and he's still a old guy. Foreign girl like to show they're strong but it might happen that the man is stronger, and at that, drunk so who knows if he's not violent? Maybe the girl was scared and I understand she could be. At least she reported him, that's good.

I might be wrong but to me, that's also due to their education system ... The japanese people I know were not trained for their job at school. They learnt general things and then were proposed jobs in totally different domains. They were trained by the company but quickly and so they don't feel they can excel in their job. When I told them in my country we choose what we want to do and then go to school to graduate in that field to be effective at work later, I was told "it sounds good but stressful" ...

    Are they even good?

Why don't we ever see or read about these idiot "talento" doing anything good, like handing out food to the homeless in a shelter or donating money to a women's refuge etc !!!!!

That's because in Japan that wouldn't help your image I guess. If you see an american celebrity doing something good, in USA, people would think "what a nice person! I will see her/his movie!". In Japan, they don't need that, they just need to show their face and people go to see the movie as they are suggested ... and if the talento does something nice, people won't care anyways...

I guess that's also a difference in culture. Outside of Japan, al ot of people feel guilty not to help others and seeing a celebrity doing so might make them think "this better is better than me" and improve the image of the celebrity. In Japan, they would just think "Why should I help them? I don't know those people! If the talento wants to help them, fine! That's her time and mney".

Well, that's only an idea ...

Kurisutofu, did you think to release the baby and hold it while either waiting for the mother or going inside to find her?

I thought about that but then, if someone would have seen me entering the car, taking a baby ... a guy, moreover a gaijin ... I might have looked suspicious. Sure, I would have then explained myself once arrived at the koban ... I stayed there and thought if it last more than 20 minutes, I would call the police.

Kurisutofu, if I had been in that situation as yours I would bring it to the attention of somebody.

I wanted to do that, but there was noone on the parking lot and many shops around so I wasn't sure the mother was really in the supermarket. And then, I thought that if I talked to a japanese person, they might say "it's not my car and/or child, I don't know". So I decided on waiting a little more before calling the police.

Now I know I could have done better but on the moment I was kind of blocked in my reasoning. I almost couldn't believe that could really happen. (ok, some might say it was not that bad, there was "air con" probably, and she might have been gone for 15~20 min. But still, I was shocked)

Just the fact that there are posters to warn parents not to let children in the car shows there is something wrong in japan ... Once, in a parking lot of a supermarket, I saw a car with the engine still running with no one on the driving seat. It was next to my car so when I entered I took a look and saw a baby there, crying and trying to get out of the baby-seat. I was shocked and thought how it was dangerous for the baby... so many things could have happened. I waited in my car thinking what I should do (call the police, try to find the parents etc ...) and 10 minutes later the mother came back with her purchases ... I wanted to tell her something but I was so mad that I wouldn't have been able to express myself, specially with my poor japanese ... I just stared at her with an angry look, hoping she would understand... (sorry for the long comment but that story reminded me that)

Seeing how the dad is waiting too, I would think maybe the woman are with them so the kid knows the dog already.

I don't like the leash, I find that humiliating too but I understand its usage. To me, a kid in the street, with the parents around shouldn't need to run around but if some parents feel like it, why not, and the leash is then a good idea.

I want to buy the iPhone but I am still bound 1 year to my docomo contract ...

Japanese phones are nice but I find iPhone far more intuitive to use, and the bigger screen is a bless to read news or whatever you want on the net.

Also, the new version will allow the phone to be used as a modem, no need to jailbreak it now, and the compass will enable it to use it as a car navigation system, main reason for my will to purchase it, although the limited area covered by softbank might be a problem.
