Something reminds me of the old proverb, that is, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do".

This is really traditional. I've heard that divorce rate of marriage by traditional wedding is lower than church wedding in Japan. Many couples are divorcing at Narita right after they were back from honeymoon.

Obama just bowed to Emperor very politely as he has some experience of cultural difference in Asia. I know self-righteous people don't.

Obama thinks China is a very important country for American economy. Japan also thinks China is a very important country as economy partner. Japan wants to make the strong community like EU in the future. I don't think China is a communist country forever and it will be changed someday like Germany. China will become a democratic socialism country like Japan, like society helping each other and national system helping each other unlike national system of that stronger kills weaker and poorer.

It is about Hague agreement. I think Japan should sign it personally. Not all countries sign it. Many many countries don't sign it. Japan is one of them. Japan doesn't want it. I think that she will never go to America and other territories, but she can go to France, Germany, etc. Japan will sign it someday years later. His case is dropped because Obama comes. That's political courtesy. However Savoie is still on the blacklist.

I think that people start to suspect more Islamic American people. There are about 35000 Islamic American soldiers. I don't think they are all bad but they do believe Islam is the best as Muslim. I think they could not be not good partners in squads. That is a problem. The best way is all american soldiers go home from Afghanistan.

I think that the US really wants to put many bases in Okinawa whatever happens because Okinawa is a very important strategical base for the US security rather than the US protects Japan. The US is saying stable strong alliance of US-Japan security to protect Japan, but I doubt about it. The US is always making use of Okinawa location to protect America, not Japan. The US do not care about Okinawa, Okinawan people, Japan. The US badly needs Okinawa for the US security. That's why the US do not want any base/facility removed/closed from Okinawa. Japan actually do not worry even if one of more than 80 bases/facilities is removed/closed from Japan. Why does the US worry about such one base for protecting Japan? Because the US can't protect America without it.

I think that Okinawan people do not blame America about bases, rather want to blame Japan's government, because the government has not considered bases issue deeply enough for many years, maybe did not think Okinawan people's feelings. Japan should have implemented to reduce much burden from Okinawa many years ago.

Japan's LDP ruled this country for more than 50 years. In September the government was changed to DPJ from LDP by election. This is ever the biggest change of government for Japanese since end of the war. I think this change was as almost same as coup without military power. This is not same like frequent changes of Republican and Democrat in America. Hence Japanese government can change the agreement because this is first time since.

This kind of tragic rampage could happen at any bases in the World. No base is the best, No one cries about it.

Of course, Hatoyama did not eat whale meat during shortage of food after end of WW2, and he did have to eat it at that time. He is from very very rich family. Many many poor people ate it almost everyday. He loved Western culture and rather ate beef. pork, etc.

I wonder how many US soldiers have died so far during combats there in Afghanistan and Iraq. It seems that America has been cursed by war as America could never stop wars. I think next America's war would be against Iran after Afghanistan. But I don't hope so.

Japan just wants to make very careful decision about it during peace time, not war time today. That is why no hurry. Japan would never get out of US-Japan alliance. But I wonder if Japan continues the new treaty of US-Japan security next year as the US-Japan security treaty is expired in 2010. If the US asks Japan too much, the new government of Japan might kick it.

The US would never let Japan go out of the US-Japan alliance as long as the US thinks Okinawa is s very important world strategical base for offense/defense of the US. A big question is next year as the US-Japan security treaty is expired in 2010. If the US asks Japan too much about relocation issue, Japan might kick the continuation of the treaty for next some years. I guess the US still would need Okinawa bases for years for the advantage of the US rather than the US protects Japan. Hence the US would rather accept Japan's decision to keep the US bases staying ever there.

GW - New government of Japan just started last month about 30 days ago and will decide it within one year but not yet before Obama comes. He will come to Japan whatever happens to Futenma issue. He will not cancel his visit because he will receive the Nobel peace prize except if he gives it up.

sillygirl - I think that Japan will make decision about it sooner or later. Japan wants to do it very carefully during peace time, but today is not war time for Japan. Why such hurry? There is no worry about workers, employees, other stuffs because new base has not been built yet and it takes 1-2 years for completion of the new base.
