    “It’s not in the nature of our nation to have these types of crimes.”

    Tell that to the child victims of the police death squads in the favelas.

    Only one book will clear it up; The Bible.

    Seems to me that the whole point of the book that Bell's written is that that's exactly what the Bible doesn't do.

    Sadly, people have a right to fear what's going on with Japanese goods.

    Well, not scientifically or objectively they don't. But people do worry and can't really be blamed for it. I'd certainly not be lining up to buy Fukushima cabbage if I were still living in England.

    It is called respect.

    Yes. That I entirely understand. But look again at Ogura's explanation:

    “The priority at this moment is to continue saving lives and rebuilding the country after the earthquake and tsunami,”

    Hence my question: How is pulling out of the tournament going to help achieve this priority?

    “The priority at this moment is to continue saving lives and rebuilding the country after the earthquake and tsunami,”

    And how, exactly, will pulling out of the tournament help the country achieve this? Are the players all going to work in hospitals and on construction sites?

    A very empty gesture.

    @thorgrimfile

    arguing that the Libyans should be happy with a murderous loon like Gadhafi as their leader, just because that's the best the best them A-rabs deserve, is just insane!

    Very well said. Let's hope somebody's listening.

    I agree with your general thrust but you're still using one guy as a yardstick with which to judge a huge amount of people.

    we have all seen that the stratum which is supposed to lead....

    you say. But your "stratum" consists of one person.

    we can swat away any nonsense about "we Japanese have sincere honour..."

    Only if you're happy to judge a nation of 120 million by the actions of one individual....

    I just hate seeing people so ready with the pitchforks.

    Better stay away from the JT site, then. This place is "Pitchfork City" most of the time!

    You have a very simple way of seeing things. So either I agree with you or I'm "grasping at straws for something to argue about". The idea that I have a valid opinion which happens to differ from yours doesn't occur to you.

    Fine. Let's leave it right there.

    That fact that Tokyo Disneyland is a "conglomerate" (actually, it's not owned by Disney) is irrelevant to the people who have lost their jobs. The idea that expressing sympathy for them when someone else is suffering more is "disrespectful" is ludicrous, as I think you'd agree if you considered your claim carefully. Again, to cite Haiti, would you suggest that expressing sympathy for the people of Tohoku is "disrespectful" to the Haitians, whose suffering, if these things can be calibrated, is even worse?

    @kaptankichigai

    be thankful if you have a home

    Problem is, if you lose your job, you might well lose your home too. Seems to me you're being very unsympathetic to these folk. Sure, people further north have lost everything they had, including their entire families, but people in Haiti lost everything in their quake and now their suffering a cholera epidemic. Would you suggest that we all stop concerning ourselves with Tohoku and worry about Haiti instead? It's all relative, and losing a job is bad enough for some.

    I've been praticing Shorinji for ten years, and the very first thing I learned was that you NEVER throw the first punch and you certainly never attack someone weaker than you,

    It would be nice if your attitude was the general one, but in my experience, at least outside Japan, people who are interested in Martial arts are pretty much all violent thugs looking for new techniques to beat people up. And they're not ashamed to say it, either.

    Learn what ?????????

    Learn that they are sub-human scum in the eyes of the Israeli and US governments and that have no hope of justice. Learn that Israeli troops have the right to stop their distressed, pregnant women at checkpoints and keep them their till they or their babies die during birth.

    Learn that Israel has the right to all the land it wants in the West Bank, despite their illegal status there.

    Most of all learn to accept the greatness and righteousness of the Jewish state and give up on any aspirations to live decent lives as human beings.

    Then Israel might leave them alone.
