Maffias appear with illegal stuff. In Japan you cannot legally gamble and prostitution is forbidden, but everyone has a Pachinko near their home and can enter the "delivery health" pages. At least they could legallize the thing and that anybody can make their own business. In the actual scheme, they are not only allowing, but also protecting the yakuza

I dont know the Korean, but Japanese and Chinese leagues level are awful. The technical/physical level of Japanese and Chinese players is very poor, so you cannot expect serious clubs to contract them. I am amazed by the publicity that Celtic's Nakamura has, when the Scottish is a third class league in the world

insiders said the affair might have been a “honey trap” by the Chinese government

In some way, they had to blame the woman or the foreigners. A shachou can never act wrongly (except if he is young, as Horie).

It is a pity the USA does not look beyond the olympics. Baseball is popular only in ten countries. For most of the people in this world, baseball is bottom in popularity. My opinion is that baseball is not full of entertainment, and you have to know the players, statistics, tactics, etc. to fully appreciate the sport. It is not like simple sports as football, tennis or basketball. If people don't know the players and know it is a second category tournament, they will not follow baseball at all. If baseball becomes a world sport (as rugby is aiming to become), they will get much more money than what they would be losing if shortening one season to prepare for the olympic. But this is just my opinion. I am not interested at all in alympic baseball and will love to see football and swimming.

"larguero, each country cheers their own. If the first 11 don't get that much cheerleading, maybe it's the problem in their countries. Besides, are you trying to say that number 12 in the world is a failure?

No. It is not a failure, but countries generally choose a sporstsman/woman that is a big name in the world of sports, recognizable and respected by their pairs and the public in general.

Maybe 12 in the world, but number one in Japan,

Well, yes you are right. I often read about how she loses in the quarterfinals. Table tennis is a sport that will never be worldwide popular and it has not so many followers. Imagine another non popular sport (say, weightlifting), would you say the number 12 of the world (number 1 in Japan) deserves to be the "leader" of all the olympic team?

besides, she is a recognizable figure in China, so that's why she is the one chosen to carry the flag."

Now you got to the point. SHe was not chosen for her skills (although she obviously is a good player) or because she can be a leader or serve as an inspirational figure to the team, but because of PR. I am from Argentina, but love Japan. I just cannot understand why having so many excellent-number 1 in popular sports-charismatic players, they chose Ai-chan to carry it.

I wonder if the 11 women that are better than Ai-chan in the world receive so much cheerleading. How can a number 12 in the rankings carry the Japanese flag? Japan has many good sportsmen/women to choose from...

I really do not understand why so many people pity her life. I dont care if she refused 6 times, she finally accepted. She could not have imagined a life too much different from the one she is having now when she said yes. She is in a position to fight for the changes she thinks are correct, but she just do nothing. THAT is a pity...

Are there any apartments with more than one suicide/murder? It is like the saying that it is safer to take a bomb on a plane, because if the chances of having a bomb on a plane are very low, the chances of having two bombs are zero...

This article, though interesting, contradicts data about births: the richer the area is, the lower the birth rate. This is an international, regional and local phenomenon. Maybe they have less sexual satisfaction, but they surely have more babies.

wow, what a nice feeling must be arriving at a foreign country and having the dog finding cannabis in your bag. So is it that easy for a person to get into the baggage area, open a suitcase and putting drugs in it?

I agree, a little dissapointing. I wanted more stories, not an article that tells me the amount of love hotel stories that the employees know. If they "see it all" I want the article to "tell it all".

We don't know many details as to have the full picture to make an opinion on this issue. This article was clearly written by and for Enlish people. Think that if a British national is correctly accused of a crime, that is not news, but if he might be innocent, that IS news. So there is a bias towards showing him as innocent. I am not a native English speaker and I really do not understand how much a "stone" weights (I use kilos, which is a far more simple way of measuring weight). Pounds or kilos should be used for everyone to understand...

It is not such a big deal. In Spanish speaking countries we have the same issues. Maybe 10-20% of the population understands English and just a few would understand the expression "kick the bucket". The exact translation would be very funny and people will not go. Other problem in Spanish translation is that you cannot put regionalisms, as it is generally subtitled for all Latin America and Spain. I find it impossible to make an exact translation without sounding funny or ridiculous.

I do not understand... why is the shortage? if the price goes up, people consume less. If a company can make profit importing butter, it should do it freely. From this article I understand that, to protect local producers, the government does not allow the free trade of a non basic product as butter (which obviously, like with rice, did not bring the expected results). Why does the government have to intervene? What are they defending? The right to eat as much butter as people like?

really we don-t need the sports that have categories. Olympic games are for athletes to compete on who is the best on that discipline on earth, not depending on his/her weight or height. One category for Judo, Karate and Boxing. Why discriminate the small ones that want to practice, say, basketball while the small ones in Judo get a category for their own size?
