Another awful story about guns in America. More dead cops who were just doing their jobs in a country full of people that insist on making it a far more dangerous profession than it has to be. I am sure plenty of those people will stop by and make a show of sympathy, and then go on to do not one thing or utter one word toward doing the things that could prevent all these repeats of gun murders in the U.S.A. A tear and an R.I.P., and then go wash their hands of it.

Authorities said Cartwright, a U.S. Army Reserve soldier, shot both deputies and took off toward neighboring Walton County,

But, but, but...they had guns to defend themselves!

I guess its true that a gun is not much of a defense if someone with a gun gets the jump on you, which is 99 percent of the time despite what your hero pulled of in a Hollywood brainwashing film.

500 yen is plenty of money for lunch. Just make your own darn lunch and put it in a lunchbox. If you cannot take 2500 yen to the grocery store and get enough stuff for 5 days lunch that is also more healthful than what you would buy at any restaurant, then you have simply not been raised properly. I say that because you should been raised to be able to do that yourself. Or, barring that, to at least to choose a spouse who could and would do it for you.

likeitis, where are you getting such nonsense?

    By reading history.

Twenty percent of the population of Israel is Muslim Arab

This is NOT history. This is the present. And since this is your demographic, does this include the population of Gaza Strip?

Twenty percent of the population of Israel is Muslim Arab, and they have one of the highest standards of living in the Middle East.

Again, does this include Gaza Strip? No? Well how did Gaza Strip come to be?

Muslim Arabs are represented in the Israeli government and can vote in elections.

Yes, that 20 percent minority is represented by an even smaller minority int he government. Super. But again, welcome to today. It was not always like that, not that today is stellar either.

Every day Muslim Arabs from outside cross into Israel in order to work.

To work their own land? You seem to have totally missed my point.

The only thing the Jews of Israel are guilty of is defending themselves against another Holocaust by their Muslim Arab neighbors.

They helped to bring war on their own heads by doing what I mentioned and more.

Israeli guilt is both past and present. Involved Muslim countries are no angels either, but the modern problem began with the Jews of Israel and those who emmigrated last century. And I am decidedly uninterested in what happened over one thousand years ago.

Scrubbing Craigslist will not end this kind of murder, but since a pragmatic solution is not easily at hand (do you have one?) disrupting one avenue of finding victims may save a life or three it worth the effort.

Not if it ends 10 lives while saving three it isn't.

Would it be better that the vermin prey on people above ground so that those you know and love are victimized?

Uh, no. It would be better if everything were happening above ground so that we could see it and thus prevent the vermin from doing their preying.

A "what" solution to the world's oldest profession and one of its oldest crimes?

You have just engaged in a very misleading game of mix and match. This was not about stamping out prostitution but rather about what, if any, effect cracking down on craigslist will prevent murder. And I think ca1ic0cat was hinting at the question, will the crackdwon cause more problems than it solves?

Helter_Skelter: GoodDonkey, all those who I'd consider conservative on this thread, including myself, have done nothing but trash David Duke.

I keep telling you conservatives because you guys never seem to get it. Its not about the people. Its about the principles. Trash Duke or not, you share more of his principles than you care to admit. Do go ahead and throw him under the bus though.

I am glad that you are accepting David Dukes as one of yours.

Frankly, as per the above, I find these kinds of statements a little unfair (also the people who got this ball rolling did so by saying ridiculous things to disassociate themselves from Duke). He was never invited into a political party nor can he be barred. He just declared himself a Republican, just like he once declared himself a Democrat. His successful election reflects ONLY on the people (mostly Republicans no doubt) in Louisiana who voted for him, and not on all those Republicans across the country who didn't.

Let us judge Duke and everyone else on their words, principles and actions. Bear in mind though, as soon as Duke is mentioned, some people here are going to start suddenly lying about what their principles are. Let us nail them for that. Duke's general position on the political spectrum is not all that helpful, except to say that he as far to the right from most conservative posters here as Castro is far to left of the liberals here.

either party would gladly let him in if they felt he could win a good deal of votes.

Votes? In the case of Byrd, I think it might be more about pork, Skip. But there are other reasons to like Byrd. Like his long, long years of public service. He is the longest serving Senator in the entire history of the Senate. He is the oldest man serving currently.

Then you have his stauch criticism of Emperor Palpatine. Did I say Palapatine? Sorry, I meant to type the Bush Administration.

Likeitis - well, certainly neo-Nazis, Islamists, and Socialists like yourself are ashamed.

You left out a great many Jews, among others. Unlike you, many people support principles, instead of brethren despite all the evil they do. Its always sad for me to run across people like you who have no principles.

Anyway, you might want to read some articles from the newspaper Hareetz. Its Israeli. Wiki says:

In 2001, the pro-Israel media-monitoring and advocacy group CAMERA claimed that Haaretz fueled anti-Israel bias.

If intelligent Israelis can oppose certain Israeli action, then I feel completely justified as well. And your ridiculous slander has no effect.

teleprompter: Duke knew that within the Republican Party and in US politics he'd never go as far as - oh, Democrat senator and former KKK Grand Kleagle Robert Byrd, for example - so it looks like he has taken his little show on the road.

Byrd is even more "former" than Duke. He has totally renounced his past and his present statements on the subjects are on the opposite side of the spectrum from Duke's.

But your wriggling and writhing with this shame is just as palpable as Sailwind's. Keep it up. I am sure it can only get more amusing as you continue to try to pass this painful buck.

I was talking about the United States of America actually. And it IS something to be ashamed of. Your country, Russia, probably is not making such a mistake.

jeancolmar: I might add that most critics of Israel, which includes Jews in and out of Israel, are not Holocaust deniers.

Darn tootin. After over one thousand years of exodus, a traumatic event was absolutely necessary to spark a mass drive for the resurrection of the Jewish homeland. That event was the Holocaust. The suffering and near death Jews the surviving Jews survived was absolutely necessary to give them the desire and steel them for the difficulties they faced, such as fighting off several countries at once, and burning Muslim farmers off their lands and herd them into mass concentration camps. You do not just wake up one fine day and get to be such efficient soldiers and so merciless against your fellow man. And, they learned from the best how to do those things while at the same time observing their errors and improving on their methods: yeah, I am talking about the Nazis.

I do not agree with Duke on many things, but I also do not think his words are all that bad. The question is though, does he actually mean what he says? Like when he says he supports the idea that the races should stay separate but live in peace, does he really mean that? Its hard to tell. And even if he does, there remains the question of what others think he means. I think a great many of his followers don't agree with the finer points of his words and would be far happier trying to wipe out other races rather than leave in peace with them. But Duke as a spokesman is as close as they are going to get...for now.

One of the biggest problems I have with him is his apparent inability to separate Jewish people the world over from the country of Israel. I am certainly no supporter of Israel either, but many Jews have a problem with the actions of Israel. Heck, even many Israels have a problem with them, just like I have a problem with the actions of my own country.

sailwind: That would be because then they would have to also mention that he was a Democrat first.

Wow. You know, its really too bad you had to launch into such an aggresive pointing out of Duke's Democrat past. Its also very telling. You would have been better off to leave it alone.

But no, you had to pick at it. Look, Duke is has been a Republican for the past 20 years. And he was not a successful politician UNTIL running as a Republican! Do you understand what that means? It means Dems would not have him despite his claims to be one of them. Republicans would not have him because he was a Dem. But as soon as he becomes a Republican, voila! Success.

Nope. He is a Republican. Not only in name, but also in acceptance.

No, the reason his House seat is not mentioned is because so many Americans, both Democrat and Republican alike, are embarrassed by him. I take it that you are one of those Republicans embarrassed, and your aggressive post seems to prove that.

Dubya: How many girls will die as a result of taking this pill?

How many will die giving birth? On the abortion table? How many will die crossing the street? From sexually transmitted AIDS due to a parent so hung up on abstinence they did not educate their daughter about condoms? If ever you bother to do some research, and prove the numbers of morning after pills excessive, you might have a point. Elsewise, its a dangerous world already, and this would harldy seem to be adding to it.

I just hope people learn the difference between denial of the Holocaust and debate about the details. Its amazing the frequency with which people get those confused. Many things about the Holocaust are debatable, just like every other historical event.

Yes, I think the Holocaust happened. But if you think all aspects are known and only the 100 percent correct truth graces our history books, then you are a great fool indeed, and darn near as dangerous as those who deny the Holocaust completely.

HonestDictator: Seems like a lot of posters don't seem to understand that parents are in charge of raising their children and deeming moral values upon their household and not the world.

It is really interesting that you say that, and then turn around and expect the world to make a law so for the sake of your household rules. How about you run your household, and if everything fails to go as planned, don't blame us for your failure to instill your rules into your kids.

does not stop the fact that I would not want my child to be able to take medication or any kind of drug without my knowledge as long as that child is living under my roof and considered my responsibilty for their actions until they reach 18.

You seem to be over-looking the fact that this particular drug reduces your burden of responsibility, not the other way around. This diminshes, but does not erase your point, so...

... maybe we can find a middle ground. How about your daughter can get the pill without your consent, but then the dispenser of the drug has to inform you, say, two weeks later.

And a little info about something I have experienced: I often see fathers cut out of the loop by daughters and mothers. Its usually his own fault as he over-reacts to news related to this topic. If you want info, you have to earn it. Setting absolute rules does earn you this. Its how you conduct yourself on the spot that counts here.

Please enlighten me as to what other nationality men collect girl's uniforms as a hobby.

Well I cannot do that so specifically. However, I can point out that American men collecting women's panties as trophies is widely portrayed in movies. And that is a lot more directly sexual than a uniform.

Who really cares anyway? The greatest damage done was the theft as far as this particular "hobby" is concerned. Next would be the trespassing.

teleprompter: A little research turns up the fact that even Canada is guilty of 'torture'.

Uh, no. The article cites Canadians turning people over to the Afghan authorities knowing they would be tortured by the Afghans. So, no Canada, the country, is NOT EVEN ACCUSSED OF TORTURE.

Yet, here you are stating its a fact that Canada is "guilty" while giving us an article about two men merely accussing members of the Canadian government of a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT CHARGE, knowledge that people turned over would be tortured by others.

And its still got NOTHING to do with the question of whether torture works but is just another attempt to smear Canada while telling the further lie that I and others are Canadian.

This is getting to be COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS...

Also teleprompter, something you missed in your lame attempt to smear Canada is that nobody ever said individual Canadians were not capable of this. EVERY country has people who have done this and worse at some point, including your homeland of Russia.

The point is that the Canadian government NEVER authorized the torture. Thus the guilty people were prosecuted. Thus:

apparently found Canada was also guilty of 'torture'.

    is yet another LIE.

    Then we have:

The Lancet -...apparently found Canada was also guilty of 'torture'.

No, the Lancet most certainly did not. The Canadian military courts did, except for the guy against whom charges were dropped because he is now brain damaged after trying to hang himself.

Anyway, completely daft of you to bring up the brutal slaying of a Somali teen by grunts acting alone and not even trying to get information. Why the mods allow you to continue off topic and LYING like this is beyond me.
