Interesting post. Thanks for the poser. Even if I come to agree with you, I wonder how we are going to legislate that? Most of the games I play, we just kill eachother, no reason at all except to win, and, frankly, enjoy killing eachother.

SushiSake3: Wouldn't it be great if the GOP expended just a fraction of their immense energies on making constructive suggestions about rebuilding the country that their support over the last 8 years helped destroy?

If they used it to flush out the real perpetrators of this fly-over stupidity, they might even put themselves back on the road to relevance again. Nah! I think they are too bitter to come through.

I don't think this fly-over business is a joke. But directing anger at Obama and even Caldera seems completely stupid. Its taking the heat off the real screw-ups who are not even being named, and that is really pissing me off.

Care to explicate a bit more on that one?

Stop arming and funding Israel until Israel lets Palestine go free. When that happens, let Israel buy U.S. and other arms with their own darn money.

The U.S. cannot win be seen as good by the populace when calling in airstrikes that kill civilians. If the U.S. military, already viewed with suspicion by virtue of being a foreign military in a foreign land, cannot be perceived by the populace as good, then we have already lost and should pack it up and go home.

I do. But the original mistake was not Obama's. He is just perpetuating it.

sharky1: but it is wrong to legally force me to accept same sex marriage as something good and proper.

Nobody is. Its not part of the legislation. You will still be free to openly feel its disgusting, along with bi-racial marriage, or whatever you consider to be deviant heterosexual relationships or whatever.

You want same sex marriage, go ahead, but don't expect me to be obligated to cater to you just because you are in a same sex marriage.

Nobody is demanding you invite Adam and Steve over to a BBQ. Relax.

But if your store is offering a discount to married people, you better give Adam and Steve that discount. But when you do, you are still free to tell them how disgusting you think they are. Then you can tell your employees, your family, and your customers the same. Clear?

Helter_Skelter: What, the Muslim Brotherhood is going to become our friend?

As per usual you are completely stuck on the most simple of points. There are more relationships out there than friend or foe, and more solutions than do nothing or attack.

SuperLib: I'd be much more concerned if the Muslim Brotherhood supported US foreign policy.

I would be happy if they agreed to disagree, but that will still require U.S. foreign policy to be more acceptable all around.

So by your logic, he should have protected himself first, and dropped the suspect and then checked for survivors.

By my logic he had to make very certain that he himself was safe before taking any other action. Opening a door with a gun in your hand while all alone is reckless in the extreme.

Telling someone to stop and freeze while calling for backup is a safe bet.

I would agree if this were an alley and both were clearly in the alley and the cop could put some distance between himself and the perp and still clearly see the perp. But it was not an alley. The perp was inside and the cop was outside. The only way for the cop to cover his own back was to step back, and as soon as he does that, he cannot see the perp.

So it would have probably been wise to call for back up, tell the perp to halt, and hope that he could help in time to see about the victim.

In that order? Can't be done. It takes too much time to get to a safe location and call for backup and then come back to the door to cover the perp, which remains a dangerous place to be even after making the call. And you cannot hope to help victims while covering the perp.

And I have not even mentioned the potential for booby traps when entering an unfamiliar house where a nutcase has been killing people.

Helter_Skelter: His administration is American policy now.

No it isn't. His administration is controlling American policy to a great degree. But current policy is also influenced by past administrations and cannot be changed over-night. And actions by American companies and even individual soldiers may often appear to be American policy, and those are significant.

Only through dialouge can appropriate policy be made. Why are you so oppossed to it?

Or have I read you wrong?

You read me wrong. I am willing to accept the idea that both war games and rape games may influence people to war or rape. Although I do not believe it is such a significant influence in any case. But if you ban rape games for said reasons you should ban war games for the same reasons. And if you assign a priority, I prefer war games get banned first. But to be consistent its both or neither.

Triumvere: My point was, their are no such arguments that can be made in defense or rape. Unless you'd care to try...

Rape consists of an attacker and a victim.

There is no question that war - real war - is hell. However, bearing arms in defense of ones loved ones and country can potentially be one of the most noble things a man can do.

War consists of an attacker and a victim. To defend war, you have juxtaposed the two.

Meh. Your next line contradicts you.

No it doesn't. I am saying its all or nothing. You are trying to say its only one. I will accept either way, but it has to be all or nothing, and consistent. If you are so against the violence called rape that you would ban rape video games, then you must be against the even worse violent act called war, and therefore ban war video games too.

Or, at the very least, you could have all video games only portray wars of defense, and clearly, while also having only rape video games where the character is defending someone from rape, or fighting off an attempted rapist. Note that a failure would result in a simulated rape, just like failing in a war game of self-defense results in simulated death.

Helter_Skelter: The Muslim Brotherhood dissing Obama. A tough one for the leftists.

The only thing tough here is for rightists to read past the headline. The Muslim Brotherhood did not diss Obama. They dissed American policy and "suggested" the trip "would be" useless IF American policy did not change.

I know, I know, too many words and nuances for an extremist to absorb.

And it's quite obvious that "likeitis" as well as this JN cop has never had any law enforcement or military training....

And you have? Ever heard the expression "Watch your six?" Apparently not, because while pointing a gun through a door only slightly open, that is precisely what you are not doing, and nobody else is either, save for possibly....a second perp, who graps your now unholstered gun.

mindovermatter: So, his first responsibility was to check for other victims inside.

When the oxygen masks fall from the ceiling on a passenger flight, do you secure your child's mask first or your own?

The same logic applies here. As said so concisely by someone above "A dead first responder is no good to anybody."

Interesting that you try to define the modern world based on "what was".

Oh, yes. Not only the modern world but also the future world. And its also interesting that despite the definition, the anti-gay marriage crowd had to make a sudden change to state constitutions to spell out that definition. In a way, what you claim is old seems kind of new.

Molenir: While people do have inborn tendencies, they also have the ability to make choices. Many people are normal for years, and then only later, after they've had kids etc, decide they're gay.

Decide? Did you "decide" you like the taste of natto, or "decide" you didn't? Of course it was neither. Decide is completely the wrong term. The term is, you figured it out.

And its quite possible for an oppressed gay man to try like hell to not admit he is gay, "appear" normal for years, have kids, and then realize one day that he is gay.

And woe to his wife and kids, and thanks to people like you for not accepting a simple fact that it does you no harm but still oppressing it.

But its not only one way. I've known people who were gay, who decided for whatever reason, they didn't want to be, and so got counseling, and overcame their desires.

I think the key words here are "I've known people". This does not remotely account for all. And if you have known people who did not go straight, would you tell us? If you did, would you simply blame them for failing, and punish them by barring gay marriage?

Even if you firmly believe what you say about people you have known, what about all those you don't know who can't change?

I came to the realization that if I wanted to have a relationship with a girl, and not just a shallow one night stand, I needed to change, and deny that part of me. Homosexuals are no different.

No different??? If you wanted a relationship with a girl, and to get it you had to have sex with a man (and like it) do you think you "make the change"? Because for a true homosexual male, having sex with a woman is as freaky as you having sex with a man.

Or is asexual marriage a fair option in your head?

While I believe its wrong, I also believe everyone has the right to make their own decisions. As long as you aren't hurting someone else, as long as its between consenting adults, then its none of my business.

If you believed those things you would have accepted the legal recognition of gay marriage by now.

Alphaape, the cop was outside peering though the partly open front door. Are you expecting him to draw his gun, burst through the door and into a house where he knows not what is waiting, cover the perp, and then call for back up while doing so?

Or, is the order to call for backup, draw his gun, burst through (and possibly get shot, stabbed, or grabbed a second and possibly even third previously unseen perp), and then cover the perp assuming none the things in brackets occurred?

If its two, I would like to explain to you that calling for backup takes time. Further, you give up a lot of nice little bits of information if you do not separate yourself from the perp first. Bits like the cop is all alone will get overheard. Not good. And I would like to emphasize again, that it takes time explaining where you are and what the situation is, which you must do or you will have cops running blindly into a situation.

And if its one, and the cop was unsuccessful in his one man Dirty Harry type bursting into a house, then how does he call for backup? Entering a doorway with a gun with the intention of cornering a perp is FRAUGHT with complications a single cop would have to be STUPID to test.
