LFR: And no, it can’t be “cured.”

That would depend on what you mean by "cured". If you meant a true homosexual no longer desiring the same sex but only desiring the opposite sex as strongly as I do, then you are correct, there is no "cure"

But if you mean simply abstaining from gay sex, as the hater and the religious types mean, then that does sometimes happen given enough religious brain-washing and threats of eternal damnation. But such a hit-miss circumstance is hardly deserving of the word "cure", even in quotation marks, except in a very non-sensical mind. It just muddles the situation for the sake of appearance, negatively affecting the lives of the "cured" person and the unfortunate member of the opposite sex they may have married.

Further, false data gets generated on the subject as the "healers" come across bi-sexuals and people who just dabbled in gay sex, convince them to abstain from gay sex, and take their fervor for the opposite sex as proof that the "cure" worked. This is the work of the exact opposite of a scientific mind.

Zurc: 50 years ago it was blacks they hated,...

You should not blame the religious types or even the pushy religious types for the things you mention. The people you mention are haters. Haters gravitate toward religions, its true, because it gives them a perfume of legitimacy to cover their foul air. It does not make them truly religious.

Likitis - If that is your definition, fine. Keep it. Just don't force it on everybody.

Molenir: My point exactly. Don't try to force your morality on me. Thank you.

What morality is being forced here and how?

Your stance is like saying there is one religion the government should officially recognize, allow to be non-taxable, and perform legal wedding ceremonies. Because if you recognize two religions, it will be forcing the second one on the first one.

Bizarre dude. You need to rethink what it means to force something on someone. What we are talking about here is two systems living side by side. Your intolerance is not compelling.

Look, you will still be free to be down on gay marriage. You will be free to tell your kids, your neighbors, your fellow Sunday worshippers, and even a married gay couple that they are not really married in your eyes, the eyes of the Lord, or whoever. You can still say they will be going to Hell.

I'm against gay marriage because it is essentially giving a pass to homosexuals.

    1) They are not hurting you. 2) Anyone whose morality is dictated by the government is truly lost. Restaurant owners are free to charge 1 million dollars for everything on the menu. Its legal. You can tell your kids they are useless wastes of space from the day they are born. Its legal. It does not mean you should do those things, and most people know that. 3) They do not need your free pass. It has no real effect either way. Gay will not become widespread for this, nor will there be less gayness for cracking down. People don't wake up one day and say "Hey, I can be gay if I want to, so from today, I will be gay!" It seems you just want to hide gay sex, but you don't seem to understand that it will still be hidden.

A Japan Committee for UNICEF spokeswoman said the Japanese loophole hindered international efforts to crack down on child porn.

What a load of crap. Handrawn and computer generated images ARE not a child porn loophole. Do these people think they can acutally eliminate desires by eradicating fantasy images??? Loony zealots. And counter-productive to their own most important goals too.

Triumvere: Not producing rape or torture simulators seems like a good one to start with.

The games are not needed. I get my rape and torture fix off of Hollywood movies. I also have an imagination. Don't need the games.

I think the best argument the Rapelay people have going is the "gives an outlet to rapists/pedophiles" arguemnent. I'm not really sure if I'm comfortable with that,

Who cares what you are comfortable with! All that matters is if it works or if it hurts! And I cannot see it hurting. Anyone who takes this as a nod to act similarly in the real world is already a nut and going to do something wrong anyway.

Violent, yes, (and fairly realistically so), but acceptably so.

Your opinion. I do not find war to be accepatable at all. And frankly, I am more worried about people playing war games thinking war is acceptable in the real world than people playing rape games and thinking rape is acceptable. It also seems a lot more likely that war will be seen as acceptable.

In other news, the kids in my neighborhood used to play cops and robbers. To date, none has become a cop and none has become a robber. It was just a game we played. But if it had been on XBox, I am sure it would have been a lot different. Uh-huh, sure.

Sarge: Marriage is between a man and a woman. What is so difficult to understand about that?

If that is your definition, fine. Keep it. Just don't force it on everybody.

If gay people want to be partners for life, they can certainly do that,

They can. But at present they are being forced to do it without legal recognition of the fact. What is so hard to understand about how unfair that is?

TexasAggie: It was his damn plane.

And he keeps it in the White House garage and washes it himself on Sundays. He uses it to do the shopping, but only at Wal-mart, because only they have a parking lot big enough for a landing. The keys are kept in a jar by the door. Actually, he first noticed when he saw the gas tank was half empty despite him topping it off at Mobile before last parking it.

I don't know, I think the Prez might have a little bit more to do than to go check on his damn plane every couple hours. Krimeny, but its no wonder the last conservative Prez was such a darn failure if this is what his constituents expect!

So if the cop walked into the house and got himself killed, I am sure all you naysayers would issue a nice "RIP"?

The cop did the right thing as far as I can tell from the information here. I am sure both he and his wife would rather you save your "RIP" for a later date.

the fact that the mother’s body was found more than a day after the crime occurred, and the way details of the initial investigation were given to the media are all extremely baffling.”

I would say that with people like this commenting, it is not baffling at all that the cops release details in a bizarre way. You got people breathing down your neck always looking for a problem you tend to clam up. And the public, very ignorant of the dangers of policework, eat it up.

I think the real problem here is the body of the mother being found a day later, not the perp getting away when a single cop has stumbled on a situation. He is not Superman. But cops massed at a crime scene should be finding bodies faster than that.

"In a memo obtained by CBS 2 HD, the Federal Aviation Administration's James Johnston said the agency was aware

I am not quite sure who "the agency" is. The FAA?

Badsey: -so whose genius idea was this anyway?

That is PRECISELY the question. We all know that not every memo gets read. Our leaders have to pick and choose. I would think Caldera might be a little busy with memos that have the words "Iraq" and "Afghanistan" in the title, so I could imagine him skipping over the mail that says "Air Force One Photo Op". And if you can't, then your 20/20 hindsight is working well.

Every underling knows that you can get the big boss to sign all sorts of documents and "OK" all sorts of things by just shoving the docs and saying "sign here". Just how much can we blame Caldera for trusting those beneath him to not make such a collosal mistake? Such a paranoid would be most ineffective in ANY office.

So I too want to know, WHO the frak came up with this idiotic idea? That is the head I want to see rolling. But even more, I want to see the heads of the COMPLETE MORONS who came up with the idea of total secrecy and those that made it so on top of pikes in front of the White House, as figuratively as that can be done.

Next, I would also like to know if the pilots expressed any concern over this. Just following orders is not an excuse for performing an operation so stupid.

One could easily be persuaded that OnTheRecord is the most pro-gay marriage person here. He is giving the Christian right a very bad name and drumming up massive support for gay marriage with his extremist posts.

I agree with you on so much. But I have to say that Afghanistan is in its current shape because its Afghanistan, and populated by Afghanis. Even without Iraq the situation would be near as bad. We might have bin Laden, but that is about all I could have ever expected or even bothered to hope to gain.

That post is as good as posts get. Worthy of Platinum font I would say.

Still, I have to disagree with this:

Religion and the politics of religion are the ONLY reason there is any organized opposition to gay rights at all in the US.

Actually, I think religion is a mere excuse for what boils down to a personal distaste and/or a belief that gay marriage, despite how few there would actually be, will destroy society.

The last one is odd though. The ancient Greeks and Romans too did pretty well without such homophobia, and I cannot say I have ever heard of anyone claiming that their declines were due to widespread gay love.

Yes, the bigger issue is that such nutcases are loose in the world, sure. Trouble is, I have a great many ideas for keeping guns out the hands of nutcases. But as far as keeping nutcases off the streets before they commit murder, well, I am stumped.
