@tmarie - Interesting. The ones I've met/taught are very pro-Chinese government and will argue at the drop of a hat abotu how great it is - all the while studying abroad...

supporting one's govt and supporting one's educational system seem like a different matter.

Serrano - The Dreamliner can hold loads more passengers than an F-35! But unfortunately the Dreamliner can't deter the Chinese or the Russians or others from launching military attacks like the F-35.

if the chinese or russians ever launch an all out military attack, i doubt the f-35 can do anything significant. not in the age of nuclear weaponry.

Not sure what position he played in football, but a few months among hardened convicts will surely turn him into a wide receiver. He definitely won't be a tight end.

Every 10 years came a loudsy and disguising ' political little show ' from Pearl harbour! Ten years ago there was such a movie 'romanticrized' the Pearl harbour raid from hollywood movie maker! Why that incident was special? Because there is a thing known as'political correctness' that has to lecture the world: Those unaccountable huge casualties in China, Soviet Union, Europe, south east asia,North Africa...these WW2 firece fighting battlefields were no where to match the 2400 causlties in Pearl harbour. Because American lives were extremely 'valuable'! Their message is that simple!

agree. 2,400 is not much in the overall scheme of thing.

People are murdered every single day in every single country by a variety of means, what makes dying by a gun so special?

for this particular incident, maybe it almost feels like it was a movie-shoot? walking around shooting during broad daylight and near high traffic tourist areas - Grauman’s Chinese Theatre and the Walk of Fame.

If the ships are made in china, they'd probably sink.

are you referring to the ones you play with during bath time? anyway, it's time you get out of your parent's basement.

If I remember it right China said their military is for peaceful purposes? Or it will make some military personnel rest in peace? Now it shows how arrogant this country is (not the people). When they say combat, I think it literally means "to kill." When are guns for peaceful purposes anyway?

since WWII, i wonder which country has been in more combat arenas - USA or China?

globalwatcher "I do not buy anything made in China. They all break."

in a similar vein, i don't buy any u.s. brand automobiles. they are all crap.

@bass4fun - China is so greedy for raw materials, natural resources that even China is running out of, so to satiate their growing appetite, China will seize on ANY opportunity where there is one to seize whatever raw natural material they can get, including the ocean.

so china will basically act like the u.s. then? u.s. invaded iraq b/c it was suppose to possess wmd, when all u.s. wanted was the oil.

also take that china! japan won.

though i'm sure the chinese will pirate the world's cup and hold a china only tournament in its borders and claim china won.

@sunhawk - wtf does this have to do with the u.s.-japan game?!? you should get out of your parent's basement more often.

I am crossing my fingers Japan will be able to sit in the UN Security Concil seats.

This is so critical to stop the nonsense (from China and Russia) that have been going on for years.

    china & russia are a good counter-balance against u.s. & britain.

It's just a movie. Japanese need to grow some thicker skin and this paternalistic b.s. ('people are too sensitive too watch this') needs to effing stop. That said, I haven't seen the movie and it doesn't look good.

after 9/11 bombings, the arnold schwartzenegger movie 'collateral damage' was also pulled from U.S. theaters. movie was about terrorist attacks. it's just a movie. Americans need to grow some thicker skin and this paternalistic b.s. ('people are too sensitive to watch this') needs to effing stop. that said, i HAVE seen the movie and it DOESN'T look good.

nothing illegal here, as article states planes approached near the island, but didn't violate airspace. the u.s. does this all the time.

maybe they should outsource production to some country to africa then? prices should come down if chad, niger, uganda were to assemble it.

so much for a "peacefull Rise" Let them do something stupid. the whole World be on them & IF china tries soemthing stupid. believe they will also have to face Terrorist threats. if people/ countries are gonna "defy" US im sure they WILL defy china.

a big IF china does something stupid versus the u.s. that HAS done something (or somethings) stupid.

So why the hell are they building up their navy and making stealth fighter jets if they don’t plan to challenge US hegemony? if i have a former invader (japan) next door allied with a country (u.s.) with military bases all over the region...not to mention sharing borders with countries like india & russia, wouldn't it be prudent to modernize one's defenses?

Japan, China and the two parts of Korea should and could coexist. The only source of noise in the East-Asian arena is the desire of America to eliminate North Korea.

the u.s. always need a threat (real or otherwise) to deal with. it's good for politics and business.

At the end of the day, Gates is a salesman. Without grave "threats", he's got no market.

    so true.
