China spends so much effort in international events.. scary

if a country was granted such an intl event (world expo, world cup, olympics, etc), i doubt it would go the route of all expenses spared and 10% effort.

ewwww in your dreams. Maybe they can learn something from the tourists, I don't think people would want to become acclimatized to them. Aichi Banpaku was bad enough and that was in Japan with no cutting in lines, shouting, eating & walking, spiting and what not. I can't even imagine what will happen when the toilet queues become obscenely long and people find relief elsewhere.

do what people do during new year's eve countdown in new york city's time square - pee/take a dump on the spot. haven't done it, but seen plenty of examples.

When I was in high school, every year on the anniversary of Hiroshima we had to see a documentary.

this documentary portrays japan as the victim, i assume?

OK, If you just look at only Concepción city, if you look for the whole province of Concepcion it counts as 1004563 people. Talca province is about 407563, Santiago is 6 million.(source: National Statistics Institute of Chile)

The death toll is low for now, but the reported damnified people is more than two million in the central and south regions of Chile.

LostinNagoya: The magnitude is 8.8 (Chile) vs 7 in Haiti I cannot see why is 900 times more powerful

the middle ground (b/w chile's quake power & haiti's pop. density) would be sichuan, china's 2008 quake. high population density and 8.0 magnitude quake.

Actually, wasn't this earthquake reportedly over 60 times stronger than the one in Haiti? A bit surprised more didn't perish in Chile.

low population density. according to wiki, the city had 292,589 people (2006).

Just saw on TV the run. This is not a fault. The referee decision is wrong. The Chinese was too close. That's her fault. The Korean chick didn't block her.

saw replay last night and notice the korean skater's left hand (if i recall correctly) did a slight push off, though.

America should be charging Japan more like 50 billion you get what you pay for, American Boys, with Shock and Awe, Raptors, Predators, AEGIS, B50-3s, lasers, satellite imagery, and a football. Its the total package.

the total package is doing diddly-squat in iraq/afghanistan. u.s. military is over-rated. ok against 3rd world armies only.

i have not read anything similar to this (rioting, raping, killing, etc) during the sichuan earthquake. i guess i'm comparing apples to oranges here, as life in haiti (before the quake) is very different than life in china.

China is situating itself to buy (in future terms) assets that will perform, and .....benefit China.

not only u.s., china signed a US$60 billion coal deal with australia. most of australia's growth comes on the back of china's thirst for raw materials.

Terroists, NKoreans, potentially China. They're on hte same side as the US, UK, Austr, CAnada, EU. It's 2010 best to get a clue,

maybe a future 2nd try at creating the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere?

Yeah me too. I hope Japan can take thousands and thousands of people from Haiti.

doubt it...they don't want to see increase in crime.

The fact of the matter is that nations are currently selling weapons to cuba, and you don't see the USA freaking out over those sales now do you?

the u.s. did freaked out when the soviets placed all those missiles in cuba. anyway, i doubt cuba can now buy $6.4 Billion worth of weapons...maybe $6.4 Millions worth of kalashnikovs.

I wonder how much the Russian, Chinese, Muslims world, and socialist governments really show up for humanity and charity to Haiti at this time? I am not talking about a photo-op, it is the charity from the heart.

what about zimbabwe or any country in africa? they should start giving out some aid for a change.

We tried that once. Got our asses kicked! See Black Hawk Down.

This time, go in with heavy equipments like Abrams tanks & Apache attack helicopters, not fragile Humvees & Black Hawks.

But communist China won't stop buying U.S. debt because if the American economy collapsed, there goes China's economy!

in other words, m.a.d. (mutually assured destruction). you're original post made it seem as if the puck was solely on the u.s.'s side.

Har! If the U.S. stopped buying Chinese-made stuff, the Chinese economy would collapse.

The same could be said if the PRC stopped buying US debt. The US economy would collapse.
