More power to her. People have different ways of handling grief. What is important is that life has to go on.

Some14some, have to agree with you to a certain extent, John Thain agree will come out savy for making the necessary cuts and write offs to make Merrill Lynch viable, sold at a 70% premium! ($29 a share vs friday close of $17.05). Fuld however will be paid out handsomely for a ruined reputation. They never seemed to try hard enough to clean the balance sheet (%50bn in real estate related assets at the end of 3Q08...)and the held out to be independant when the did not have the means to.
The real blame for this fiasco to a large extent lies with our regulators and central bankers. Whilst hindsight is always perfect, Greenspan had known for a long time that the housing market was well past a bubble. If the problem had been handled earlier, the issues would not have been as bad. The liquidity in the nmortgage market interestingly was not from Freddie and Fannie (though it is their role). The problem arose when there became increasingly high levels of mortgage loans that failed to meet their standards and as a result their share of mortgage recycling via MBS fell. This shortfall was taken up by the likes of Lehmans

Funny you should say that Kissmint as i generally feel that North anerican and Australian women age quicker that the Japanese in terms of their appearance. Don't get me wrong, not a blight. I would have thought that if you all those layers of foundation your skin would deteriorate a lot quicker than someone without.

Regardless of when it was printed and when it was reviewed, this was a brilliant book which I found really enjoyable all those years ago. If you haven't read the original japanese print would recommend you to read.

To jammer: The Pearl won't work as it is a 2.5G machine. the only blackberry's that work in Japan are the 3G blackberries. Change SIM cardwon't help as the machines don't work at the 2.1Ghz frequency for 3G.

I once recall a story about a man who was travelling in Hakone or aplace like that. It was the season of the local festivals and he couldn't get a room in any of the ryokans. he kept walking down the shotengai till he reached the end and found an empty cleanly kept ryokan. It seemed very quiet, which he attributed to the fact that it was at the end of the street. Nevertheless he walked in and got a room. As the night passed on, he had dinner served in his room. He was reading when he noticed that it was soon getting livelier and livelier and he can hear the sound of people talking and drinking and enjoying a merry time. It seemed to be coming out of the oohiroma at the end of the corridor. As evening progressed to night, the noise got louder and louder, till he started getting annoyed. He opened his door and was about to walk over to tell everyone to calm down, what shocked him was that the moment he opened the door, the sound subsided to silence. Scare and shaken he closed the door straight away only to hear the noise again. Now fearing for his sanity he opened the shoji covering teh windows and opened his winddow. To his shock he realised that his window was facing a grave yard. The story I was tld ended with this gentlemen immediately rushing out fo the ryokan and heading for the nearest crowd in fear and shock.

Agree on the fact that Lucas drew so much inspiration from the old kurosawa movies (even he says so) as well as the various story lines from Louis Cha novels. That said, I don't think any director (asian or non-asian) could have made the six movies he did when he did, any better than he did. The two trilogies along with his collaberation with Speilberg on the Indy Jones movies were without doubt some of the best movies that I could just sit and enjoy with an open mind whilst using little of my already limited intellectual capcity!

i have yet to meet a person who likes to fly purely for the joy of taking a red eye or for the joy of sitting in a commerical plane. That said, we all do because, nothing beats a face to face meeting in business (in person) and nothing is more enjoyable that a good holiday. Planes have continued to be full despite oil prices and those airlines that have done well are the ones who have been able to differentiate themselve through a better quality product (Cathay and Singapore for example). They will rightfully keep designing cabins to please the traveller who flys regularly and is prepared to pay to get to where they want to go. Keep redeigning those seats in frst, business and economy!

Look's good. Pity (a) I don't get to fly first (company policy and personally won't pay for that) and (b) JAL is an airline which I think has one of the worst service levels from cabin crew. The last time I flew TKY-HK on JAL, I felt it was worse than flying a domestic flight in the the US.
That said the seats look a lot better than the new business class seats on Ctahy Pacific. If only we can get JAL seats and Cathay Service.....

Kawabuchi may have been a decent J-player in his time, he brought about some success with the establishment of the J-League, getting Japan to three world cips and co-hosting the World Cup in 2002. What he hasn't done is progress japanese soccer on the back of the world cup. Not an easy thing to do and Not something that can be done in a span of 10 years I say.
His failure was to push through what he thought was good. Classic example other than the above article re choice of successor, was the appointment of Zico as head coach. Troussier was disliked big time by Kawabuchi and they argues like hell. That said, I felt that Troussier was a succesful coach who understood the limitations of what he had. A team of hard working players who were not world class. Okay so Nakata, Inamoto played overseas in Serie A and the EPL Reserves. But what he did was to mold a team that played as a team and worked together.
Zico was very good player in his day and one that Kawabuchi admired. But he was also a coach who wanted to play with flair when we had no individual who could "flair" a team to victory and beyond. A succesful coach surely must be one who can get the most out of his resources (and hopefully first by understanding what his resources are). If the 2002 performance was a reflection of what these resources could achieve, then by all means 2006 was an utter failure.

Commercial sex is probably less patronized by the younger crowd, because they are getting it on more often with casual peers. Women's lib japan version, where the girls are just as happy to explore a one night stand or maintain a sex friend relationship, is probably one of the reasons.

The crime he committed was despicable and whilst I am sure any man deserves a defense, I am surprised that he has 20 lawyers who were prepared to argue his case. Show his name and photo, it does not dismiss the fact that he seems to show little if any remorse.
