I don't think Bethune was brave, courageous, or a maryter, or what ever honorable word that s out there for him. I don't even think what he did was stupid. He did it because he knows he could get away with it. And that's smart. He and the rest of the world knows Japan has never been able to stand up for anything.
Try boating on one of the chinese boat(china consume over 80% of the world shark fin) and see what they do with Bethune in china. When Iran and North Korea starts whaling, I doubt Bethune dare to mess with them.

the freshman's attitude in this story was wrong. But I still remember my first week working in a company(might I add, a japanese company). The fear of saying something wrong made it really hard to pick up that phone. There will always be a few who s not afraid to pick up the phone on the first of work, but rest of the majority of the freshmen are not ready yet. Cut the freshmen a little slack, they all will eventually pick up the phone.

Unfortunate to see someone to be blessed with his ability and not be able to take on the responsibilities of that power. I love the bad boy yokozuna image. But there s always a line that one must not cross. And I think he crossed the line this time. He needs to learn from his fellow mongolian Hakuho... Go Hakuho!!

Shawnth. I totally agree with you. Couldn't have put it better.
Hobbys70-"Japan is not 80%of the world population so therefore why do they believe it is their right to eat 80% of world Tuna catches every year?" Who said it's their "right"? I don't know how you could presuade anyone with that kind of language.

No. But, I'm really surprised as much as 42% support Sea Shepherd's tactics. That to me says a lot of people still do support SS actions.

"All this seems irrelevant to me. Japan is clearly 100% in the wrong."... I guess any act taken by the activits are justifiable if you put it that way. They should take a further step and actually start killing whalers to get there pt across. Since japan is clearly 100% wrong and actions taken against them are irrelevant.

cleo. i really doubt the people on that boat were the same as SS. I was trying to say in general "activists."
Anyways. does it matter which of the activists did it? aren't those activist doing for the same cause?

Cleo-A couple of protesters boarded a whaler to present a letter of protest to the captain a year ago, after which they were handed over to the Australian authorities who returned them to their own ship, with no charges.
i just love the way you put. I guess the whaler stop the boat and invited the protesters on the boat so they can be presented a letter of protest. It was nice of Japan to hand over the Australian authorities and press no charges. So you are saying because the whalers invited the protesters, thats why they didn't weren't charged? I don't get your pt.
btw. I also mention twice on harrassing, getting too close to the boat, and throwing things. I wasn't concentrating on just boarding.

DelicousWhale-If that is the case, shouldn't these activists protest against there own government, since there own government have the sole power to make changes?

sparky- If the Japanese whalers are in Australian waters, why don't they just notify the coast guard and toll the boats back? If they are in Australian waters, whalers have to follow Australian laws and suffer the consequences.

cleo- didn't in the past a boat like Sea shepard board an Japanese boat to protest? And my pt wasn't about that. It was just one of all the dangerous tactics they have done before to get attention.
