Seoul is about 40km from the DMZ, right? How far can NK artillery reach?

    Answer:

...According to one report, a South Korean security analyst suggested that DPRK artillery pieces of calibers 170mm and 240mm "could fire 10,000 rounds per minute to Seoul and its environs." The number of Koksan guns is not publicly reported, but it is reliably reported that North Korea has about 500 long-range artillery tubes within range of Seoul, double the levels of a the mid-1990s. Large caliber self propelled artillery pieces typically have a sustained rate of fire of between four and eight rounds per minute. This suggests a total rate of fire of artillery alone of between 2,000 and 4,000 rounds per minute. The DPRK's two hundred 240mm MRLs fire either 12 or 22 rounds, providing a maximum single salvo of no more than 4,400 rounds...

    Seul Population: 10,456,034.

Let's suppousse for a moment that these report is exagerated and the reality is only 10% of that. Even these optimist calculation means 1000 rounds per minute.

Is not about if SK and USA can win the war, is about if they can do it enough fast for avoid that Elvis destroy SK cities with artillery and WMDs. I wonder how chickenhawks that dont live in SK can show so much confidence but never explain how they plan to avoid that Elvis kill millions of civilians before lose the power.

Is a cold fact that NK cant win a conventional war against SK soldiers supported with enough USA air power, if C and R dont lift a finger for save their annoying buffer. But the cost in millions of civilian koreans lives from both sides is to big. If NK attack the SK, a short and limited counter-strike that make clear that they dont stand a chance in a conventional war is more than enough to force them back to the negotiations with out risk escalating to use of WMDs. Talk about regime change and they are more likely to use the WMDs, thats the reality.

Hmm... in my no expert and personal opinion, rigth now Elvis only can launch Missiles to SK and J with chemical, biologial weapons or maybe a dirty bomb. Is a clear and present treat and is possible but not assured that can launch nukes in the future and reach Alaska. But let's be honest:

1 - Elvis just want more money.

2 - China dont want to lose their buffer state with the USA in Asia and they dont mind having a NK with nukes if limit the agressions to retoric speechs.

3 - SK dont want any type of measure that can risk de destruccion of their cities and industrial power and a sudden reunification with empoverished NK can be a double catastrophe for their economy.

4 - Japan's LDP is all tough talk, but we cant join a militar solution at least that "Elvis" drop some chemicals on one of our cities first.

5 - USA love militar solutions but is out of funds saving the Big Three and the soldiers are already fighting the war on terror on Irak and Afganistan. And dont forget that there is no oil.

6 - Russia is the only real neutral, they have nothing to lose or win. They just sit and enjoy the show.

So... let's make tougher sanctions, get a better Ballistic Missile Defense and let' NK implode from famine. If they start to die in big numbers, let China pick up the problem of having millions of refuges trying to cross their border.

If the idea is make J join the F-35 joint program, if we dont get the B version, I say, no thank you. That project is already to expensive for the current recession in the economy.

Well, that is good idea. But I think that Israel or India or Sweden can be better partners and see us more like equals. USA military projects have an awful tendency to end being overpriced and with a questinable cost/efficience ratio.

In my opinion, they oposition party is going to get more power, but I dont think that is going to be a big change in the control of power, like some of us want. Mostly because they lack a strong reform agenda, these is mora about LDP becoming less popular than about DP being more popular. The only difference for us is one letter less, the rest looks the same thing.

If I found a lot of money, I call the police, is to risky to keep it. If I found a small amount of money, I give it to the closest autority, I am not so poor for going taking someone else money. I runned 50 meters with my luggage in a station for return the wallet to the owner that droop it on a Buss. I wish that more people think that to be honest is not being stupid.

The only way I can imagine japanese sleeping 8 hours is if we count to sleeping when commutting or in the classroom...

The french take a lot of time for eat, but the size of the dishes of the french cuisine is so small like japanese food. I think that is not that they eat more, is that they use to much time, in Japan people eat in 15 minutes.

Hmm... I envy be french, it sounds a lot more relaxed way of life.

I think that in the end is good for any other automaker, including Europe, not just Japan. But I cant stop feeling terrible for the workers. When your company close and there is no other company taking people is like the end of the world. Is difficult get a job in the auto industry anywhere right now.

Hmm... about the protect americans workers idea, I dont mind working for an american car company if they want to build some factories here in Japan, just like maybe some americans dont mind working for a japanese or italian company in the USA. I think that most of we blue collars workers dont really care about flags, just about jobs. If people really want to save Chrisler, try to contract Carlos Ghosn, it worked for Nissan in Japan.

I have some friends that play in bands in Japan and is really hard to get enough time and a place to practice enough. An amateur of the west have far more experience in hours of play than most japanese profesionals.

Hmm... but that is an exeptional example, that play with hipotetical perfect scenario for torture, where the torturer is supoudesly 100% sure that the suspect is guilty (with out a fair trial) and that the torturer is sure that the suspect knows something, all under time pressing conditions. The other side can play that to. Imagine that the torturer have a suspect, and think that the suspect knows where a bomb is going to explode. Hard pressed for save the lives of innocents torture him to death, but the know nothing. A more realist scenario is one where the torturer is not 100% sure that the suspect is guilty and/or that he knows something. Because we are humans that can committ mistakes, there is no a 100% efficient way decide if a person is wort use torture. In esence, a society that allow torture sacriface the moral in a shoot in the dark, from pure desesperation and impotence. In my humble opinion, for many people is far easer apology torture, than try to explore the roots of the problem and see from where suicide terrorists hate/fear come from.
