He probably is in much more debt now and still can’t pay, so he decided to turn himself in for a life sentence. Thus insuring the loan sharks will not be able to get a hold of him to make his life a bit more painful.
Criminals like him will continue to infest the earth until they are caught. Legal justice or natural justice will catch up them eventually.

This is old advice for those that enjoy the chase and excitement of extra marital affairs. From the Ojisans I know, it is a normal custom to have a mistress on the side. From the younger generation, it is something they need to try at least once. Remember the famous words of “The grass is always greener (on the other side of the fence)", then make the choice to be monogamous or not.

Senseless violence or planned terrorist attack to embarass the Chinese government? Doesn't matter eather way, a foriegner was targetted and murdered by a deranged/driven person. The Chinese government security force should place the whole family under arrest until an answer is found.
Either that or the US should just decline any events in China to ensure another American is not murdered.

Fast food is just like gasoline. If someone wants it, they will find the money to buy it. It is a shame, my first visit to Japan in the late '80s versus now is quite a change. The introduction of fast food has changed the culture. I noticed the stereo typed skinny japanese people have gained much poundage. Good living or just a societal shift in culture?

If John Edwards used protection, hooked up with Mitsuyo Kusano or Mona Yamamoto, this would probably not of been so devastating to his career. The story is more on his family and career, not on his "affair".
He made a choice from his role model to do this act (without the cigar). As with any political figure in the US, this story will go away after a few months.
Mark Twain once said Congress may be America's only 'distinct criminal class'. I agree with him completely. What other job can you claim Congressional immunity and continue to serve as our public servants? Let me detract that last statement, he was a senator, not a congressman.
I can't wait to see the follow-up story on how Mrs. Hunter was tricked to have relations with him. Then read her memoirs after she publishes them for a profit. I see dollar signs in her future and a lonely life for Mr. Edwards.

Following all the responses on this thread is very eye-opening, a lot of good points and interesting rebuttals. It is a bit of a loaded question though. It could read the does the Japanese military need to have bases anywhere in Japan? Either way, the combined training efforts between JMSDF and the US forces kinda answers YES to the question. If you ask the local businesses and the MLC's/IHA's that work on the bases , I am sure you will get a unanamious yes they need to stay. The US does stimulate the local economy. In the big picture, with the future reduction of forces here in Japan, we should definitely retain a foot print to help keep the security of Japan safe if a foriegn entity tries to take attack.
