Japan's problem has always been the same. They never shoot the ball. They have a chance but would rather pass it.

I dont mind if he has an English menu or not. But saying 'he didn't want to make the place too Western' sounds like he was worried about not attracting a Japanese customer base. Hence, if the Japanese customers saw an English menu, they might assume the place is frequented by foreigners and not come again. Sounds bad, I know. But I can see some customers reacting this way. And no blame to him at all, given that his business will succeed or fail based on the number of Japanese customers he attracts.

Having been 8 yrs old when my own parents divorced, there is no win-win situation here. But I know that the children want to spend time with both mom and dad, and they should get that time. Today, it is nice to see both my parents happy in life, but still I sometimes wish that they had been able to overcome their marriage difficulties for the sake of me and my brother. So I can't help but feel that some, and I repeat some, parents need to think about what is best for their children before they get divorced.

How sad. Poor boy and poor family. I worry about this everyday since my 7-year-old daughter started walking 20 minutes to school. In the morning, I am not as worried as the older 5th/6th graders lead the younger ones to school in a group. But coming home is the problem, as the older ones are in clubs and can't see the younger ones home. Thankfully, my wife isn't working at the moment and leads the younger ones home. But not all kids have someone to watch them home.

Okay...back on topic...:) I agree with SezWho. I accept Clinton's apology. I would never be a good politician cause i would never speak for fear of offending someone. Everyone says things that don't come out the right way...or...their true intentions are misinterpreted. We need to trust people as being good and descent. And accept apologies more often.

Everton...you are correct in many cases. Before i married my wife (who is Japanese) my uncle expressed concern for how we would fit in Amercia or Japan. He said that my children would be treated differently. He wasn't supportive at all. My mom and dad, however, were completely behind us. But the exact same situation happened at my wife's house. In fact, her mother worried greatly about what others would think. Uncertainty about race is not contained to whites. And although i don't like the word 'minority' it exists there, too.

Buddha...some Americans is correct. But starting with "white Americans" includes all. I am white but fully support Obama. Race, gender, etc..is not a concern for some Americans.

I'll just add that I think it's okay for people to not get married. It's a personal choice. To each his own. But for me, it is pure joy. It hasn't always been easy. I made a few years really rough. But I think the key has been 'appreaciation` and 'gratitude'. I view my wife as a true gift. Support one another. Appreciate one another. Enjoy one another.

Sorry. Don't understand the question. As a child of divorced parents, I just don't believe in divorce. Think a lot of people give up to easily.
