I can give you sources and you can come back and tell me you don't like my sources so I leave it up to you to pick and chose what you deem credible.

VOR, if you have so little faith in your sources, then why would you believe them? Why even bring it up?

googling 911 intelligence failures would be a good start.

Like I said, I could be at it for weeks. You are making clear and specific allegations yet providing nothing of substance to support it. Might I not be better off googling John Ashcroft? It does sound like some of the excuses he made for what happened on his watch. Not that I have much faith in his predecessor Janet Reno either (point a finger her way and you might have something). But you cannot blame the actions of either on the president above them. All you can do is blame the president for appointing them, or even failing to pull the plug on them when their mental health is clearly in question.

Here is to hoping that Obama will appoint neither a man who lost a senate election to a dead man nor a sufferer of Parkinson's disease who is obviously "prioritizing" as a symptom.

mcheeky you can do your own research if you are interested.

Smells like a cop out. You have not provided nearly enough info to begin a search, unless I am going to be at it for weeks. If you know no more, then I think you should be more careful what you claim next time.

I have to say I am a little disappointed in Obama's words. Rather than talk about wind farms and solar panels, which really are not going to do much for us, I would rather hear that all those energy saving patents the big 3 bought up and promptly moth-balled will be made open license to any American company who wants to use them.

And rather than modernize our schools, I think I could I go for some of what we had in the past...and lost.

Clintons foreign policy, restrictions he placed on the CIA and FBI and his failure to respond responsively to terrorist attacks against the United States played a major role in the Sep 11,2001 attacks which in case you didn't notice ultimately put this country on war footing.

VOR, I would really like some details on this. Especially clarity on the restrictions that placed on the FBI and CIA and HOW exactly that played a MAJOR role in 9/11.

Its really easy to make these accusations. A little of this, a little of that, and voila, it almost sounds legit. Links, proof, details...please.

Heh, the global liberal Saddam apologists still believe he was just a harmless ol' coot.

Its more like low level rightists have monochromitic vision to the point that even shades of grey are not visible. Add to that severe myopia when it comes to predicting the fallout that comes with violent action.

If the pirates really wanted to put the pressure on and make even more money, they would threaten to pump half the oil out into the sea all along the coastline, creating an ecological disaster.

They would have to be truly insane or stupid to do that. It would endanger their own lives to the point of being slow suicide. Many of those pirates are fishermen. I doubt they would stand for it.

Is it just me, or did that Russian shipment of tanks that was taken over by pirates just fall off the face of the Earth? Wonder if this tanker will too.

It would be a mistake to let companies take so much money without providing the service they were paid to provide. To heck with the fine print, especially as companies are getting better and better at ripping us off by means of intentionally hiding unfair clauses in there among other things. Basically, they are not making the contracts in good faith in the first place, and that counts for more than fine print, make no mistake. Naturally, all expenses should be deducted, but the company has no right profiting for what it never did.

They should have dropped him the minute the kidney stones were found, and kept him dropped until he was cleared.

Don't just think of this as him and them. Think of what the precedent could mean for you and all of us.

Well at least they can protest noe, they couldn't do that under Saddam.

Gathering for a protest is great fun, at least until a suicide bomber comes along or a roadside IED explodes. You don't know how right you were when you said "at least".

Just one more threat to civilization that suicidal, sentimental Lefty morality has brought us:

Suicidal? Who died? More on that later.

I do not know who the author of that piece was or what his sources were, but it seems to me the primary problem with stopping the pirates has been the simple fact that no one will pursue them into Somali territorial waters without the permission of the Somali government, which is rare enough.

Now, I might agree that is just like a lefty to give a hoot about the rule of law rather than call it all just a bunch of scribbles on paper. But something that was not included in the snippet was the fact the pirates are, at this time, treating their hostages quite well. Up the ante and we could start getting a lot of dead hostages (that would be suicidal, or more accurately, homicidal). Also typically lefty to put innocent human hostage lives ahead of some rich guy's money, isn't it?

As for the pirates' lives, I really could not care much less. But I want to be darn sure it is the right people getting it first. Second, I would rather they rot their miserable lives away in jail, for many reasons including the desire to not create any Islamist martyrs. But if they get shot while attacking or threatening ships, like they did threatening Indian ships recently, oh well.

So am I just thinking ahead? Or do you have some money invested in shipping companies which operate around the Gulf of Aden?

Seems to me that Bush has done exactly what he was elected to do... keep Americans safe !

Like he was doing in that school room on Sept. 11, 2001? Or when ordering the invasion on the country that was not a threat, thereby ending the lives of over 4,000 American soldiers?

Gitmo itself has probably sparked more outrage and induced more people to fight us than it ever imprisoned! Even I turned on the U.S. government in my own way!

Within maybe a day of 9/11 I concluded the attack was a one-off fluke, and felt plenty secure, knowing that people were more aware, and that citizen awareness could have stopped 9/11. I felt less secure when Gitmo, the Patriot act, torture, denial of rights, and the invasion of Iraq for no good reason hit the news.

My view is vindicated by the fact that people are still shooting at our boys and our embassies have been attacked too. All you have is no attacks on American soil, which I was not very worried about after 9/11 anyway. Bush had seven years, hundreds of trillions of dollars and widespread support from his country and most of the world. Yet al-Quaeda is still out there and bin Laden's whereabouts unknown. With successes like that, who needs failures?! Gitmo is part and parcel of that.

Copernicus was not the first to think that the Earth was not the center of the universe. He was the first to scientifically prove that it was quite possible the Earth was not so, and did it at a time when such ideas were potentially dangerous to one's health. So hats off to him. And a little smack to the religious types.

I am usually very skeptical of archaeologists' "theories" but in this case I feel they have proved it from enough angles that they must be correct.

In the first case of its kind, U.S. District Judge Richard J Leon said the government’s evidence linking the five Algerians to al-Qaida was not credible as it came from a single, unidentified source.

Completely embarrassing to America that people would be locked up without even the most basic of prisoner rights just because "some guy" whose name we don't know pointed a finger at them.

Do we have suspected witches at Gitmo too? Can't wait for Obama to close the place along with this shameful chapter of our history.

“Until they show us the plan, we cannot show them the money,” Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif, said at a hastily called news conference in the Capitol.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think congress was so staunch about the 700 billion. Isn't 700 billion a lot more than 25 billion? 28 times more? Anybody counting?

If al-Sadr’s group and other legislators opposed to the pact lose by a thin margin in the vote planned for Monday, they might attempt to turn their anti-American message into a defining issue in provincial elections on Jan 31 and general elections late in 2009.

Looks like pure politics here. The actions of al-Sadr's group is most likely to keep U.S. troops in Iraq longer, the opposite of what its followers actually want. But those followers will stupidly react favorably to the anti-American message even though it is extremely counter-productive to the goal of removing American troops.

But there is one more plus for the politicians. Having the troops in Iraq longer presents more opportunity for rage whereby their followers will get even more worked up and more supportive of the group. The politicians win by ruining the chance for their supporters to get their truest wish.

Dirty, scumbag, filthy, muck-racking politicians. Got to hate them.

Not one word out this jerks piehole ever had "merit".

This guy and his merry band of followers purposely target innocent people in markets, bus stops and where ever they feel they can target to get the maximum effect.

Badly as you may want the world of words to be tied to the world of deeds, they are not.

remember the fate of (President George W) Bush and (Pakistan’s ex-president) Pervez Musharraf, and the fate of the Soviets and British before them.”

Just one example. Surely you can agree that reflection on the history of both the Soviets and the British in Afghanistan has merit? We are facing some of the same problems they did.

Think and be reasonable. I have had enough of gut reactions to last me a life time.

“It is true about you and people like you ... what Malcolm X said about the house negroes,” he said, naming former Secretary of State Colin Powell and the current secretary, Condoleezza Rice.

My understanding of Powell makes me think that is most undeserved. Powell was forced to make a deal with the Devil. He had to make it look like he supported the Iraq invasion just to convince the White House to seek U.N. support. I think he hoped the U.N. would make the White House see the light. Powell has always sought to avoid war, and made tough choice to do it then. Rice on the other hand...the accusation just might fit. She is a "yes" man, and never mind her gender. I can hear her saying "Yesm massaa Bush" right now.

“And if anybody needed more of a contrast between what the West and the United States stand for, in terms of democracy and what these terrorists stand for, I don’t think you need to go any further than those comments.”

I wonder if Mr. McCormack can name the democracy that came up with the term that we have seen fit to pretty up here, with "house negro". What does the United States stand for again?

Some parts of Zawahiri's words have merit. If you just wrote him off, you were not listening. But its obvious that most of it is just the tough talk we can expect from someone clearly smelling danger, especially when he insults Obama. And yes, Obama is dangerous to Zawahiri in more ways than one. Obama threatens make moderates out of many Muslims who are not sure where they stand, and turn them away from al-Quaeda. And, of course, moving the troops straight out of Iraq and directly to Afghanistan is going to give him a very serious headache. Here is to aspirin being in very short supply in your cave dwelling.

Hundreds of thousands of Kurds were killed or expelled from northern Iraq

Killed or expelled? Are those two things similar enough to lump together? Seems like a desperate attempt to inflate some numbers without "really" lying. Could be just counting missing people however, and not (excuse the pun) bothering to dig deeper.

Anyway, Saddam made a big mistake in attacking the Kurds. He should have let the Turks do it.

But I do not honestly believe that any American would just expect him to do nothing after an assassination attempt on himself. A great many Americans lost that particular moral high ground when they supported lashing out at Iraq as vengeance for 9/11. I cannot say if Saddam went after the right people or not, but I am sure he was a lot closer to the right people. I suspect he was just making an example of them to ward off future attempts on his life. Some have accused the U.S. of much the same, only on a lot bigger scale.

Did I just support Saddam? No I did not. But in my opinion a near 20 year old mass grave is not near a good enough excuse to kill a bunch more people when that situation stabilized over a decade earlier. Anybody grabbing at this as a way to justify the attack on Iraq is in deep denial.
