If they wanted to crack down on drugs, they should just raid the Yakuza offices. They openly advertise their offices. Of course it would be best if the police dont announce their raid before hand. Anything otherwise would be silly.

    Good intentions but misdirected.

    Style without substance.

What about addressing the alcoholism problem in Japan?

Actually, no, he is NOT clever. He's simply slightly more clever than the folks whom listen to his blather. Many 2nd graders probably think that 5th graders sound intelligent, too. It hardly means they are.

Nice try but not logical. "The folks who listen to his blather" are actually very many people. And they comprise more than just "5th graders".

Your opinion (while valid) does not mean others are invalid just because you have a different opinion. Overall, Rush is pretty effective at what he sets out to do. See post of Jan. 21st @ 2:43am

I disagree with a lot of what Rush says and dont particularly like him. But people make the mistake of thinking he is stupid. He is very clever and he knows exactly what he is doing.

Imagine you punched someone in the face when you were 20 and when you were 60 that person's grandson came up to you and punched you in the face saying he owed it to you. I can never understand keeping the hate going.

Fair point. But in my previous post I mentioned, "It might be fine for some, maybe not fine for others".

What I was getting at is, where do societies draw the line? Take your example except change it to hit with a baseball bat instead of a punch. Still feel the same way? How about stab you three times? How about steal your car? How about take your life savings out of your bank? How about rape and kill your child?

If you look at it this way it is a bit easier to understand. It doesnt really matter what you as an individual thinks or feels (or me for that matter), but what the society as whole thinks and feels. Especially those that were/are directly affected by it.

I don't care what bad Japanese did during the war. It's Past. P-A-S-T!! Finished. Yes it was bad. Shiite Happens.

I never understand this logic when it comes up.

Just because something happened in the past does not resolve issues and help to heal raw memories and wounds.

To draw a loose analogy: Imagine going up to somebody and punching them in the face. Then later brushing it off as something that "happened in the past". It might be fine for some, maybe not fine for others. Point being there are various ways to deal with difficult situations, some more effective than others.

In my experience, many Japanese have rather immature interpersonal skills. I often find that to be the case in the international arena as well.

In short, its not desireable to raise a family in Japan for many people right now. Especially when there are numerous alternatives (especially for women) that were not so widely available before.

The detained, mostly students and young factory workers, are expected to be charged with “khalwat,” or “close proximity,” which under Malaysia’s Islamic Shariah law is described as couples not married to each other being alone together in a private place.

We cant judge. All cultures are beautiful. All religions are great. We cant judge. All cultures are the same. We cant judge.

First time it happens, you get a warning. Second time it happens, you get a 10,000 Yen fine.

By their statistics that would bring in about an extra 5,940,000,000 Yen a year.

A lot of people dont understand that you will go through life and be offended many many times by things people say or do. But that doesnt necessarily mean they should change their behavior because of you being offended.

The people living way to far beyond their means were and are the Wall Street types who created and fostered the housing bubble

What do you mean exactly by "wall street types"? Cant a family of three earning a household income of $70,000 live far beyond their means too?

And you claim that ordinary people living beyond their means was the problem.

Read my post/link again. I claim it was part of the problem.

After all, when the bank loans money on a house that is appraised at $465,000 and the loan is not paid, the bank still has the house.

Banks dont want to own empty houses.

The banks knew when they lent the money that many people would default, and so your statement betrays the fact that you are simply wrong.

The people also knew that they could not count on future re-financing. They also knew they could not predict future interest rates.

I didnt say banks were not at fault. I said banks were not the only ones at fault.

The actions that the powerful and greedy on Wall Street caused a crash of markets across the world.

Ahhhhhhhh not quite. Im not trying to have a go at you, but this is a typical cynical, simplistic, and uneducated stance taken to an issue that is a bit more complex.

I suggest reading this for a fair and pretty balanced look at what caused the most recent crash.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Causesofthefinancialcrisisof2007%E2%80%932009

When I hear people complaining about the crash, I almost never hear anyone talk about how a lot of people had loans that they could not afford to maintain. Many people were simply living way beyond their means. Just becuase a bank offers me a loan on a $465,000 house, doesnt mean I should take it. Of course the easy answer is to blame the banks, but it would be nice to hear a bit of complaining about the irresponsibility of the masses of individuals that were living at a standard they could not afford. Some people might even use the word "greedy" to describe them.
