I never understood this and still don't.
Religion: we are caring, we want peace, we love you and we love everybody. Buuuuuut...if your beliefs differ from ours you will not be saved, you will go to hell and we will think less of you.

Japanese people talk to me about this flu thing on a daily basis. By the way they talk, you would think the world is coming to an end.

I know a lot of people dislike this dude but I like him. Perhaps he was guilty of a white collar crime but...I believe he was targeted and severely punished because he was a threat to the archaic business system in Japan. There are many many other business men/companies that continue to break the law but authorities look the other way because they "play by the rules".
Horie was specifically targeted because he was young, bright, different, creative, charismatic, wasn't subservient to his elders etc.
In Japanese society, the nail that sticks up will get hammered down. And this is just another example of that.

Interesting article but a few points...
Japanese workers - "Highly educated, diligent and hard working"...I'll agree with the last two, but the first one? It looks good on paper but when you realize just what the Japanese education system consists of it loses its appeal.
Politics - "But let’s not forget that Japan is a functioning democracy."...This is pretty funny.
Interesting article but personally I'd be more bullish on China and India for the next 45 years.

Yes, that included. Just seems that over the past 50 years or so America has used its military in a variety of wars/conflicts/incidents that seem motivated by things other than "self-defence".
I understand its all subjective to a point but sometimes I wonder...why is America the only country allowed to have a strong military???

Not true. Of course there are mentally disturbed people everywhere, we all know that. But to say Japan's mental health services are "developed" is silly. All cultures are NOT the same. There are differences between them.
Why was he allowed to be in public without a guardian in the first place? What was the mental disability? Was he on meds? Why wasn't he deemed a danger to himself or others by his mental health care professionals? Does he have a previous criminal record? Could/should this have been prevented?
Personally, during my time in Japan, I have seen a shockingly large number of mentally disturbed people roaming around in public. And what is more shocking is they are usually alone and not accompanied by a guardian.

I wish they kept records of how many people attempt to fight officers, suspects just seem to do it anywhere.

Mental health is an area Japan needs to better address. This documentary sounds interesting. Hopefully it will at least raise awareness.
