Great quote.
No matter what the reality is, Japanese people are sooooo easily influenced and not capable of making independent logical thought.

PubofTex - She hasnt been able to travel, much less leave the house for several years...whatever treatment they are using isnt working(and its scary to think of what the treatment is).
Put her in one of a number of other countries and I bet she would get better treatment/results.

Noborito - Nice try but wrong again. Again, you are overlooking the biological function that takes place with a mental illness such as depression. Simply telling someone to "change it" is naive.
In a way its similar to telling an addict to "just stop". The problem is they cant. They need intervention to stop.

noborito - No offense but you are uneducated about this issue and dont know what you are talking about. If the answer to a mental illness was simply "get out, go do something, change your life" there would be no mental illness. There is a biological aspect of mental illness.
Japan's mental health services are archaic at best. My guess is her "treatment" would serve her better in a number of other countries other than Japan.
Sad story.

Critics assert that the empirical evidence does not support the views of the anti-globalization movement. These critics point to statistical trends which are interpreted to be results of globalization, capitalism, and the economic growth they are purported to encourage. Specifically, the following are common claims made by critics:
--The decrease in the percentage of people in developing countries living below $1 per day (adjusted for inflation and purchasing power), which has halved in only twenty years.
--The world income per head has increased by more over period 2002-2007 than during any other period on the record.
--The doubling of life expectancy in the developing world since WWII.
--The increase in universal suffrage, from no nations in 1900 to 62.5% of all nations in 2000.
--There are similar trends for electric power, cars, radios, and telephones per capita as well as the percentage of the population with access to clean water.

I guess I would rather have the United States, Japan, Russia, France, Britain, Canada, Italy and Germany decide the fate of the world rather than Brazil, Finland, Mexico, Iceland, Mongolia, Egypt, Turkey and Denmark.

The louder this gets, the less it has to do with US beef.
If the issue is sooooo important to them, they would simply not buy the beef and eat something else instead.
This issue seems to be more about politics and less with food safety.

Do you live in Japan? If yes, how long? Flip through some comics when you have a free moment. Flip through a girlie mag. Check out the adult section of a video store. Go into a sex shop and see how many high school uniforms you see that are available for sale. Ride the trains late at night and watch drunk 50 year old men staring for what seems like an eternity at young girls.
Yes there are pedophiles all around the world....but in Japan, it seems to be a heck of a lot more. Almost seems acceptable here. Sick.

Am I the only one here that sees this a bit differently?
We live in a time when terrorist attacks are a part of global society. As much as some people would like to think otherwise, terrorist attacks ARE political. Why do you think they carry out those attacks in the first place? They are meant to shape/change/transform the public/political behaviors and policies.
I think people are assuming if this guy speculates about a future attack, he must desire a future attack. I dont think so.
Having said that, it was a stupid comment to make because he should already know the public and media would take this and run with it.
Put it this way...if there was an attack next week, you bet both sides would make political statements about the attack, the security of USA, future foreign policies, military responses, Iraq, Afghan, regime change etc etc etc. It is a legit question as to how a terrorist attack would affect the two political parties of USA.
Stupid? Yes. But the public also falls into that category.
