I do not believe nobody is saying this is good news but 12 tons is about the same amount that fits to a small single-tank truck. Sorry but I refuse to declare the whole island of Japan dead just yet.

Now who really believes the government does not find a new hole to put the added tax revenues? So we end up with more taxes, more bureaucrats and the same amount of debt than before.

There may or may not be a big one in Tokyo soon but as long as you continue to predict there will be one long enough you will get it right! Or you get retired which ever comes first!

devdane: if your point is to state that even in US you have as ignorant and racist people as we have in Japan then I get it. But we knew it already.

Yep, who cares for lung cancer, acid rain, climate change or the hundreds of deaths in coal mines every year if we just get rid of the evil nuclear power.

Dog: So why did they specially mention having to use Japanese as a feature designed to keep the British companies out?

I am actually blaming both parties here. We who live in Japan know very well the inflexible attitude the government officials often take but I would not let all the foreign companies off the hook either.

First "provide the tender preferably in Japanese". I see this as a standard practice in any country to ask for the tender in their own language, nothing especially dramatic here.

Secondly these companies where not trying to just offer assistance as they themselves so nicely put it but to make money in entering the Japanese market. No, there is nothing wrong about in my opinion but do not try to picture yourselves holier than the pope.

Coal mining kills more people every year than nuclear accidents have ever done and as an added bonus we get to breath all those particles from burning the coal.

But we will be fine without nuclear plants as soon as all the people who oppose nuclear energy cut their electricity usage by half.

The article starts by saying it is good idea to know your blood type. The writer then promptly fails to give a single explanation why.

As cleo said if you need urgent blood transfer you are not in a state to tell it to the doc even if you know it and moreover they will test it anyway.

This is exactly same than horoscopes in west. If asked I always tell my sign is Omega and blood type C.

I am with plasticmonkey on this. If there is no larger plan then the only thing that will happen after the tax raise is that the bean counters will use more money on anything they do. And then we need another hike as the debt continues to climb over 200%...

"Police have put Li on the nationwide wanted list."

He must be terrified. Now it takes only an average of 17 years and surrendering twice for the cops get to him.

"Well, the government officials get away with deep bows and several "gommenasai" used in their speeches."

I have trouble trying to remember the last time a government official has been in a gun fight with the cops.

I used to keep similar amounts of money at my home too but it got too bothersome as I had to move those piles out of the genkan every time someone was on the door. Not because I was worried they stole it, but because I could not get the door opened otherwise. Then again maybe he has a bigger house than I do?

Still with the interest rates the banks are paying you cannot blame the guy keeping it at home!

OK, so I have a question for all of you who think his sentence was extremely harsh: what sentence you think would be good for a shootout with cops? A ten thousand yen fine and apology letter?

Pukey2: I read this so that you need to go to register your change of address in the ward office as before. Just that the form you fill will go to the Ministry of Justice from there.

I am also happy to understand from the pages that the "acting as a spouse" does not mean what it sounds like, but just that you are actually living together and not separated and staying married only in paper to keep your visa. Would be totally uncool not to get any for six months and then be deported because of that ;).

So GW you are suggesting that because we know some of, let's say, Chinese people are going to work illegally and overstay then Japan should not let any Chinese in?

For everyone who is worried about having the same happen to him/her the solution to the problem is simple: do not break the law and if you do and get caught do not fight the police.

Now that was not too difficult, was it?

I would be happy to see Japan to grow a pair and just sink the pirate ships who are putting their commercial ships and crew in danger. That is what international community is doing in the coast of Somalia too.

If they really were the 99% then they would not go camping in parks but would go to voting polls and take the whole country.
