I don't read commentaries often, but it would be nice to have a little more about the authors. The featured commentary at the moment, for example, gives Henry Hilton as the author, but nothing more. Who is Henry Hilton? It would be nice to have something a little more than a name with commentaries, opinion pieces, and editorials. I mean, is this person a JT staffer? Outside commentator? What qualifications? Most news services include a one sentence bio at the end of opinion pieces.

Editorials by a news organization's editorial board do not need a byline, but guest editorials always ought to say something about who the writer is.

Yeah, the more I try to look at any of the news menu pages, the more I'm convinced that two columns of headlines is a bad idea. The left side menu with all the news categories and only headlines was always nice in the old JT for skimming topics that I'd like to read, but there is no equivalent here. Digging through the jumble of sections and headlines in the new two-column format is a pain.

Lovely, too, that I can get around the ban against "Japan" by putting quote marks around the word.

To start, the front page looks like absolute chaos. The story links and tags are visually scattered around the page, and finding anything is a strain on the eyes.

Also, the comment filter is a travesty. There is nothing wrong with filtering offensive content, but I just tried to post a comment with nothing offensive, yet no luck.

Per westurn's post, I'm guessing that the rejection is because I used "Japan" in my post, but how a site called "Japan Today" can deem discussions about "Japan" offensive is beyond me.

What, is this site now run by some nationalist North Koreans or Chinese who actually find "Japan" offensive?
